Staying at a campground near here and found it on yelp. Saw it was in the middle of a neighborhood and not on the main drag so I figured it was supported by locals rather than tourists. This turned out to be very true. Half the customers seemed to know each other. Anyway, the ambiance is pretty thin. Not much to look at and all the food is served in paper or styrofoam containers. Help yourself to some plastic cutlery if needed. However, the food was very tasty. Certainly above average for a basic Mexican place. I ordered the carnitas plate and a chile relleno à la carte. I like to test Mexican restaurants by trying the chile relleno. That was the best part of the meal. Took a few minutes for my order because the relleno was obviously freshly made. Very well roasted poblano with just a little bite to it. Well breaded, fried, and sauced. Carnitas were very tasty as well. Service was a bit odd as they call your number and then stand there and ask you if you want everything on it and then slap it on top in front of you. read more

I eat here frequently as it is very close to home and you control what goes into your food as they fix it in front of you unless it is fish or fajitas, which are done in the kitchen. They are always busy but they are fast! You can eat in or get your food to go. Prices have gone up but, not as much as other restaurants. Chips are extra and honestly, they give you so much food, you won't need them. The Chile Rellenos are really good. There's a reason this place is so busy, the locals love it!! read more

I ordered a wet pork burrito, hold the beans and rice. There was nothing else inside the burrito, just the chopped over-done pork. There was some cheese and a little sauce on the outside. Flavor was meh. Would not order that again. My friend ordered a chicken quesadilla,. She only ate half and left the rest. My husband and I have been coming here for about 4 years now. We always get the same thing. Their nachos supreme, so good. They will put whatever you want on it. This weekend we went on Saturday and decided to try their menudo. I love menudo and have to say was not disappointed. A hardy bowl of pure deliciousness. Was not greasy at all. The portion is a good size. I got to enjoy it several times and the flavor just got better. Since going here we have never received bad service. Everyone is so friendly. I've been coming here since I was in 8th grade so close to 18 years. Used to come here once a week for years . There's been maybe 2 or 3 times out of maybe 100 plus times of coming here over the years , that the quality wasn't as good or the same... but other than that, it always taste the same & to me , it always tastes great. If you're someone that loves a hole in the wall Mexican place w a lot of stuff on your burritos or nachos, then this is the right place for you. I'm not a picky eater whatsoever , my boyfriend is the complete opposite. So I get all his extra salsas and sides and it's great. In the burrito, if you want lettuce & tomato ... you do have to ask for it when ordering at the counter , it is a little extra but oh well. Everything's expensive these days. The habanero salsa is a lil extra now too and it's spicy as hell, but like I just stated above. Oh well, get over it haha. This place is probably one of the best places I have discovered since moving to the 5 cities area. Love the Jumbo burrito for $2 more. It was recommended getting two meats I did not do that my inaugural visit but definitely will in the future. The quality and flavor are apex. The atmosphere is geared smaller and similar to a fast food joint. The staff is awesome definitely customer service oriented . I highly recommend this spot for quality Mexican food. Yes it is off the beaten path a bit but worth it. I hear the Horchata is delicious as well and cannot wait to try it. read more

Their Nacho Supreme is no joke. It's colossal! Other customers were surprised how large the serving was. They just couldn't keep their nasty comments to themselves. Enough of their opinions. I'll share mine. It's ridiculously good. Have a beer along with it and you be napping like a baby. My date had the shrimp fajitas. She stated they were plump and tasty. Came across this hole in a wall spot and loved it! I haven't tried plenty on the menu yet but with my two visits, so far no complaints! Fresh tortillas makes a difference that's a for sure for me from now on. You come up to the cashier tell them your order to charge you and then once the tortillas are ready they call your number to come up and tell them what you want in your items. FOOD: items I have tried are sope (carne asada), tacos (carne asada, al pastor, cabeza), burrito (campechana which is chicken, asada and pork). All have been a hit for me so far! The meats were cooked just right not chewy! The cabeza is soft and melt in your mouth but very fatty/oily. The portions have been great both times. Presentation of food have been neat and clean. Prices have gone up but so has everything in the world so pay at your own risk I guess lol AMBIENCE: parking can be a struggle depending on times you come in. Parking is limited given you share it with a laundromat next door and other stores. The inside is spacey and plenty of tables and chairs. It has a potential to be a loud place but not rowdy. SERVICE: i have had no bad service so far. They were always quick and willing to answer questions about the orders. They were also willing to add or lessen the amount of ingredients you want in your items which was a nice perk. Overall, I would recommend the place. The food was good. Upon arrival I provided a very large tip because I did not have change for my large bill but still wanted to be kind. That was a big mistake. I drive home which is only a few minutes away and the tostadas are completely soggy. I can even let that slide, fine they don't know how to plate a tostada for a Togo order. The chorizo is a bit spicy so if you don't like spice definitely skip this one. The carnitas were delicious, juicy and crispy! The carne asada was tender and not dried out. I have been a loyal breakfast burrito customer for years at this location. I thought I would try a dinner & break my usual routine. BIG mistake. I ordered taco dinner (2 tacos, rice & beans). The menu said $13.99 ANY meat. So I ordered grilled beef (since they do not have shredded). The clerk (who couldn't smile and acted like I was bothering her) charged me an extra $1.75 to which I asked "why" and she said its extra for the meat I ordered and she said there were a couple other meats on the menu that were extra. I said "but the menu says ANY MEAT". Her reply was "I don't know what to tell you" Once I got the meal home & bit into the taco I soon discovered gristle. And it didn't stop with one, two or three bites. The portions were small on everything and I ended up paying almost $17. I happen to know another place less than a mile away that serves delicious generously stuffed tacos. Their same taco combo is $10.99. There used to be a restaurant like this in downtown SLO. We always loved going there. We like the ability to see and choose what goes into our taco or burrito. We found this place on accident. We were headed to another yelp selected restaurant but that place was closed (lucky us!). This spot is hidden in the middle of a neighborhood on a corner where not many travel. We've tried most of the Mexican food on Grand Ave. and haven't really found our new spot. Having had our choice of great Mexican food in LA when we lived before, we realize we were spoiled. Now we're very picky. When you order a burrito, something that has many layers and ingredients, they ALL have to be good or it ruins the masterpiece.
