Edward is a magician when it comes to COLOR! I came in with all kinds of different color (mostly box dye) he fixed it all and I look like a part of society again! On a side note, his new assistant Inga(much more knowledgable than the previous one), is a Russian warrior. She was able to blow dry my kinky,crazy,curly hair, to silky ,smooth,bouncy Kim Kardashian hair with out a flat iron! She has got me hooked on her blow outs and will definitely be back for blowouts every few weeks. P.s the blowout lasted me 3 days. The most ever in history for me. I came home for winter break from school and was in serious need of a haircut. I am growing out a pixie cut, and for those of you who have gone through the pain, let me tell you, these months are the WORST. It's at the point where the back of my hair is nearly as long as the front of my hair (hallelujah!) and as of 5 days ago I literally had a mullet. I have a hairdresser back in Ithaca who made my pixie cut and I trust with my life to do my hair... in the Bay Area, not so much. So, I made "consultation" appointments with a few different salons in hopes that with a little bit of money I could de-mullet myself. Edward's Salon was definitely on the lower end (price-wise) of where I was looking. I walked in and wasn't expecting much, considering this is a hair salon in a strip mall (near Marshall's). I was so wrong. I spent 5 minutes talking with Edward and he clearly knew what he was doing. I have hair that is curly/wavy when more than 2 inches long and he knew exactly how to cut it so it looks nice, not messy (it's easy for wavy hair to be curly when it's at ear-length). I have been going to Edward for close to 3 years. His new salon at 1040 Grant Rd. (near Rite Aid) is totally fantastic! A well kept relaxed area that puts you at ease right away. Get there early and grab a quick bite at the food establishments close by. His salon is fresh and spotless. He selected appealing Earth tone colors as opposed to most salons that have a disco atmosphere. Guys can feel comfortable while reading Motor Trend and other motor magazines while waiting. I have never had a better hair cut and I have been around a while! Go for it. Got gray? If you want a hair coloring he is the man to see. Honestly - I thought this guy was talented, but he is also so oddly insecure and unprofessional as to be sort of freaky, really frustrating, angering and thoroughly impossible to work with. Parts of my first haircut were great and I had such good things to say and such high hopes with Edward. Second and third haircuts were progressively less well done, but I know this happens a lot and I tried not to worry about it too much. Last haircut Edward started cutting someone else's hair after the start of my appointment time. Potentially problematic, but not necessarily, right? When he gets to me, he sort of argues or dismisses what I am asking for - annoying and not a good setup, but he seemed to understand what I was going for overall, and it wasn't that important this time because I was getting a cut I could then let grow out for a bit in order to later change it up once some shorter parts were long enough. He spends five, top eight, minutes on the cut, then gets his assistant to blow dry it. I do not suspect at all that he is done, but think next he's going to dry cut it. My hair is dry and suddenly he and his assistant are rushing me out. I am pretty sure it can't be done, and try to look at it a little and both he and his assistant start telling me it's great, it's cute, is going to look great, blah blah blah - they are rushing me out (and rather than resisting I figure if it really needs more cleanup I can come back when he's not so clearly behind). I called to get it cleaned up and arrive when asked. When he comes out of the back of the salon he barely looks at me before telling me it's even, he doesn't see what he could possibly cut, it's fine. He does this all BEFORE he's even gotten within five feet of me and isn't even facing me straight on!!!!! He doesn't have me sit down, doesn't have me look straight at him, doesn't compare side to side visually or tactilely, doesn't do anything at all to check the cut - just launches into bruised-ego type childish protest, interruption, blaming, says I've done this before (maybe I look like someone he thinks has come in for a clean up before??) and he says any cutting he does is going to be my responsibility - literally says it will be my fault - if he cuts anything wrong?!!! He keeps telling me it's even, then asks me to show him, then cuts me off when I start to, then at one point he asks me to explain and gives me a few more seconds before protesting again, he says he can see it, but then puts the scissors inches into my hair where there only needs to be a couple millimeters of trimming and blending done!!! I demure and then he tells me that I can't see it and that I don't want him to cut it - when really I just didn't want him to take a big chunk out of my hair when he's still acting irrational and telling me his hair cut is and is going to be my fault?????!!!! One word, FANTASTIC! The other day I needed a haircut. I am usually skeptical about getting my hair cut because I've never been to a salon that cut my hair how I LIKE IT. I don't typically like getting my hair cut with clippers and I am very picky. I heard Edward's salon was great with scissor over comb technique. When I arrived Edward was super nice and friendly, and on top of that GAVE ME A FUCKING AWESOME HAIRCUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I should have paid more attention to the reviews with 1 star. I am very disappointed with the results and had to go to another salon to fix all the mistakes (how hard is it to do layers?) Edward himself never once said hi or tried to spark conversation. I'm not one for small talk, but at least a "hi" wouldve been nice. So maybe he had a bad day. That doesn't excuse him for the poor, inattentive job he did, which I paid $50 for! I asked for a simple trim with layers. What I got was a blunt, uneven cut (left side was longer than right side), blunt "layers" that ended up being very boxy looking and bottom-heavy. His quality of work is probably comparable to Supercuts or one of those salons in the mall. Please save yourself $50 and go somewhere else. read more

I came here looking for a Japanese Hair Straightening which didn't require me going all the way into San Francisco. In the past, when I've attempted this I'd been highly disappointed. Why? Too expensive and not the same results as I'd get in the city. Edward did an amazing job, in a reasonable amount of time and for a very good price. He took me in at 5:00pm on a week day and stayed with me until close to 9:00pm. This would have never ever happened somewhere else. Oh, I also had a cut (layers) which came out great. There are a few barbers. I had haircut with Lina and she was great. But she only works parttime. So I tried Edward. He is horrible. No common sense. Seems he only know one way to cut guys hair, same as his own hair. I told him just to trim my hair a bit. But he actually still cut the way in his mind and the first cut just ruin my whole hair style and can't even make it up. He didn't apologize and kept saying he had many years of experience and can't be wrong and it was my fault not to clarify it. What's ridiculous is that in the end he said its America you gotta try something different. Wtf. It's hard to find a good men's salon in South Bay area. I have tried so many places and no one even close to the point that I will go there every time I want to have a haircut. I got my hair done here by Helen who Edward says was a "professional" about 3 weeks ago. I Asked for brown to blonde balayage and when I left the salon I was not totally satisfied with my hair but it was ok. However after about 3 days I noticed the blonde had faded to orange. I have been doing everything right using purple conditioner purple shampoo and I've had blonde hair for about 4 years now so I know how to take care of it. She initially said it would be 200-260 but at the end she said 300 and my hair definitely wasn't worth that. So I gave her 260 and left. Since then I have contacted her about fixing my hair and let me tell you it has been a nightmare!!!! She doesn't speak english very well and would not let me speak and told me I was wrong I don't know how to handle blonde hair and she refused to fix it and hung up on me multiple times.overall she is rude does not know how to dye hair at all !!! And honestly I wouldn't be surprised if her license was fake. DO NOT EVER go here you will be ripped off, scammed and hate your results. read more

Came here recently based on the positive Yelp reviews. I was under the impression that Edward is a haircutting guru for $35 a cut. hmmm... My haircut turned out Average, after I had to point out hairstyles in the books there (other salons I have been to know what to do with my hair, with just a couple of basic requests by me). Well, I wound up paying $45 for my cut. My sister, whom I came with, however, was much more satisfied, and her cut was only $40 (short-hair). I guess it depends on how specific you are... Edward (formerly of Hair Glamour) has opened his own salon near the intersection of Grant and El Camino. As noted elsewhere in Yelp, Edward gives an outstanding haircut and charges a reasonable fee. I used to go to trendy salons in the SOMA district in the city and paid twice as much for an inferior haircut. With some other stylists the first couple of haircuts are good but after that they tend to go into maintenance mode (e.g. mediocre). With Edward each cut is fresh and professional. This place is amazing! It was my first time here as I read so many great reviews on yelp and I'm glad that I tried this place out. It's my new go to place for a hair cut from now on! Not only is it really clean, but the people there are extremely welcoming. I got my haircut from Loi who gave me suggestions and cut my hair better than I had even hoped for. Worth every star!!! Worth the extra drive for me. - I came initially on a whim, because I was bringing my Mother to a Dr. visit @ El Camino Hospital, I had the time and decided to get some blonde peekaboo's in red hair while I waited. I explained my time window and he graciously accommodated me. Didn't rush, he was meticulous and I left pleased. Would have given probably 3-4 stars. Price was reasonable. I decided to come back to the long anticipated and expensive Brazilian Blow-out (my hair is thrashed from all of the previous dyes) and to have it redyed Red with stronger Blonde Peekaboo's. Well, I said "highlights" and when I got there and he heard different, the time frame he booked me for was a much shorter time frame. Rather than send me away, he STAYED!!!! So did his assistant. They were SO AWESOME!!! We talked, laughed, had a good time actually, they kept me entertained while we went thru hours worth of hair treatment, so VERY meticulous, No mistakes. When all was said and done I felt the prettiest I had in sooooo long!! The red was beautiful, different than my original pick (Edwards suggestion) but never regretted the choice, not even a few months later, the color stayed well (despite Red's reputation to fade), My hair felt healthy, without all the frizz I was used to, the Blonde was gorgeous and the cut was flattering. My experience with Edward the past year has only been the best! He is totally professional, genuinely honest, and totally accommodating to what I want to get done with my hair. I first had my hair cut done by him when he was at his former salon in Sunnyvale. Had a basic haircut and layered trim done and his price was more reasonable then most salon I been to. Got alot of compliments on my hair from friends afterward. Been back to Edward for a couple more layer cuts and trims at his current salon, and always walk out with a smile on my face. He's my Edward Scissorhand as I nicknamed him to my friends. hehehe.. So, this past summer I decided to get highlights and consulted Edward with my color options. I have dark wavy asian hair so when he recommended a base color that's 2-3 shades lighter than my natural dark color plus a golden highlights, I was skeptical at first, but the results was pretty darn awesome! Got even more compliments from friends and other mommies at school. Love it ! I then went back for a root touch up 10 weeks later but my color never turn ashy or brassy at all. It's great to know that Edward uses high quality product on my hair! Actually when I had my roots done, I also felt adventurous and had a Brazilian Blowout done that same day since I have natural wavy hair,and I'm tired of straightening my hair. I only scheduled a root touch up with Edward that day but he was soooo accommodating and fit me into his busy schedule after he was done with my roots. It's been 4 weeks now, and my hair is still straight, healthy and I love it! I don't have to fuss too much with my hair in the morning when I have mommy duties to do and I used less messy products on my hair which save money in the end so I can use it on my shoe addictions. Edward is very skilled at cutting hair. Myself and my husband both go to him for our haircuts. Edward is extremely honest and tries his best at making your haircut as close to what you want. He also takes your lifestyle into consideration when cutting hair. He may cut your hair shorter than you would like if you ask for extra layers. I don't know what he does but the layers he puts in my hair always falls nicely and does not require too much extra styling. It blends perfectly. Definitely recommend Edward and his team. His prices are also reasonable but recently it went up in price. Just a warning, his haircut can very depending on how busy he is. I have a short pixie cut and like to try something new every cut. I give some random ideas like 'shorter on this side with some bangs' and Edward takes the time to understand what I'm going for, and then uses his creative hairstylist talents to create something that looks great. The best part about his cuts - they fall nicely on my head. He's so talented that however he cuts it, when i wake up it looks pretty good and doesnt require much styling. If there is a way to give zero star I would. Mainly for the rude behaviour by Edward. I called in for an appointment and he asked me to come in at 10:30 today. I made it on time and I specifically told him for a longer bang to cover my spots. Yet, he cut shorter bangs and when I expressed a concern, he just mentioned "wait I am not finished yet". After he finished the cut I told him that I would prefer a longer bang next time. His response "I am not taking anymore new clients". Well I am not coming back for this attitude. great haircut by Edward, the style is exactly how i wanted it. problem is, his assistant/receptionist ruined my ends by staightening my semi-cut hair (without adequate heat protectant and at 450) before he could make the final touches. now, i dont know if it was because he was juggling three customers that day or he just simply cant texturize short layers without the hair being heat-processed, but what was supposed to be a smooth fresh cut is now gritty and damaged ends. overall, i love the style, theres no question that Edward knows his craft. im just not loving the quality of my hair. i think if i ever plan on going back next time, ill ask if he needs the hair to be straightened before he can layer. i am not paying $45 for a damaged haircut, regardless how great the style is.....again. read more

OOPS... Wrong Color!! Have you ever gone through a traumatic experience in a hair salon?? Well, this was my first: on my third appointment, Edward had pulled the wrong customer card after I spelled my name for him, and therefore dyed my hair with the wrong color. I ended up wasting three LONG AND PAINFUL hours while the girl washed and dyed my hair twice more (!) after the wrong color until my scalped burned and my eyes teared of pain. Even then I ended up leaving with a color way too dark (he didn't even bother adjusting the desired color on my overly light hair after the color removal!) And the worst thing of all, is that he didn't even apologize until just before I left, and blamed me for confirming the wrong name card (yes, he did clumsily wave a card at me with numbers of colors on them... was I supposed to know the number of the color or was that his job???) and all because he didn't bother recognizing me in the first place as his customer nor paying attention to me as I spelled my name! ...All in all, he didn't even bother offering me a refund for this nightmare. I truly felt so horribly insulted as I escaped out of there as soon as I could. read more

I made an appointment 2 days ago for a haircut today. For a Thursday afternoon, Edward's is crazy busy! Even though every seat was taken, I felt that I given amazing service. Edward was great at understanding how delicate my hair is, and suggested a sweeping bang. I hadn't had a bang in 15 years, and never thought of a sweeping bang. It looks amazing! I had been trying a ton of different hair stylists in the Bay Area and didn't like any of the hair cuts I was getting. Finally my fiance suggested I try out her stylist since he cuts men's hair too. I went to Edward for the first time back when he was renting a chair in the Salon in Sunnyvale and have never looked back. He does a great job with a good attention to details. He also has a very good idea about what styles are "in" right now. His prices are very reasonable - $24 for shampoo + hair cut.
