The service was really disappointing this time. I used to go there because their prices were reasonable and the quality was acceptable. Normally, the haircut here would take about 5-10 minutes, but this time the lady finished in just 3-5 minutes. She asked how I wanted it -- from 1 to 5 -- but I had no idea what those numbers meant, and she went ahead and chose "medium" on her own. This was by far THE WORST haircut I've received in my entire life. The materials were extremely unsanitary--I sat down and there was hair on the cape before she even started cutting. The hairdressers barely understand English and were extraordinarily rude. They do not understand how to work with curly hair or treat it properly. My hairdresser pulled my hair out an unacceptable amount of times and in the end she just had me brush my hair myself. I had really nice thick hair before and now I barely have any hair left. I also asked for curtain bangs (any other salon I've went to can do this!!!!!) and they were completely uneven on both sides. Would you wait 25 minutes with an appointment and pay $20 for a 10 minute haircut? Called up this morning at 9am when they opened for an appointment. Earliest they could give me was 1pm. 12:05pm walked from home to the library to pick up books, and then left at 12:30pm to walk along El Camino Real and through the construction and closed sidewalk at Hollenbeck, to reach Lucky Cuts at 12:55pm. Second in line, for only with people with appointments. Shooting the breeze with another waiting masked customer outside the shop, as no waiting inside the shop. McDonalds in front of the shop has been closed for months, while Sunny Nails next door now offering $12 haircuts, and Madras Cafe next door jammed packed on this Saturday afternoon. 1:20pm, called in for my haircut. Get the older bald guy, while the other waiting customer gets lucky and gets the young attractive gal to give him his cut. Barber not only fully masked, but also wearing a face shield. Can't be too careful. He's all business as he has a full house today and tomorrow. All the barbers here are from the same Vietnamese family, with the older lady retired -too dangerous during the pandemic being a barber, even with customers masked the entire time. 1:30pm, haircut done. $8 haircut 2010-2018, $10 haircut 2019, $12 haircut 2020. Cash only. He wishes me a happy holiday, and goes on to the next person standing in line outside. Came here March 15 to get a haircut the day before the first lockdown. August 5, outdoor haircutting permitted, but no can do at Lucky. Came here December 5 Saturday to get a haircut before the lockdown tomorrow, Sunday, at 10pm shuts down all barber shops in Santa Clara. San Francisco, and Contra Costa counties. After tomorrow you'll have to get a haircut in San Mateo county, before they impose a lockdown in a week or two. Madras Cafe jammed with people trying to get a last chance outdoor dining meal. Only take out after Sunday. I give the Barber a $20 and tell him to keep the change. He'll need it, as the first lockdown shut him down for six months. Hope he survives the second lockdown, as this is still the cheapest place to get a haircut -but only if you have a very simple haircut style like me. read more

CASH ONLY. I'm always looking for a local haircut place for a simple haircut. We arrived and there was no line so my kiddo was able to get his haircut right away. I asked for the haircut #s and the older man got right to it. After about 15-20 minutes he was done, paid, and we were on our way. This is a local reliable haircut place. I think you gotta set an expectation before you come here. You know the cut is only $12, even in 2021 after the pandemic lockdown. You should be expecting the basic stuff here. I was in and out in about 30 min, the haircut is nice, I told the guy to cut it in a certain number and length, he asked me whether it's good after, and made some adjustment. It's a family run business, and maybe they're not professional, but they have been doing it for many years, I still think they can cut better than me.. so I'm happy. Verdict is if you want a fast and cheap haircut, just come here, and support the small business. read more

I can't speak to women's haircuts, but I have seen women who sound like regulars getting haircuts. I've only gotten a haircut and can't speak to their other services such as hair washing. But the lady who cuts hair far end on the left side is poor. She cut my hair more than what I mentioned and was not apologetic about it. While a lot of people have rated them highly with a lot of 5*, I found this place to be worth no more than 1*. Realize that most people who review them are also those who ask them to "cut their hair so that they do not have to brush/comb them" meaning that these peeps have no idea how they want their hairs to look. Most customers are those that walk here shabby, in flip flops and that don't give a damn about how their hairs look and all that matters to them is a hair cut in 5 mins. Well, this ain't a 10 min speedy oil changer folks.. Extremely disappointed with the hair cut today. This place is run by a Vietnamese family consisting of mommy, daddy (the old man with bald head), their son and another lady. Most people go here because they are the cheapest option in the neighborhood and that obviously means no frills haircut, i.e, no fading and all that fancy hair cut that you have been dreaming. I have visited them a handful of times and they have done reasonably well in cutting the hairs. I always choose his son or wife because they are patient and don't rush you but that can't be said of the old man, who I have seen people avoiding in the past and I now know why. I typically go for # 4 on the side and finger length on top and asked the man the same cut today. His son wasnt around so I thought let us try the hair cut with him. I am not sure what his definition of finger length is, because he cut my hairs to 1/3rd of finger length. Perhaps he envisions a finger length as that of a toddler. I have always convinced myself that cheapest is not always the worst but I guess today I walked out of this shop with that impression. Needless to say, I am not going back and will give my business to another barber that sits by Sunnyvale downtown. Finally able to make it back to Lucky Cuts for a trim. Nancy does a great job with my hair and adding a little layer. Usually I don't need to make an appointment but when they get busy, I'll call for one. The shop is simple but for COVID they clean after each hair cut and you wear your mask as does the whole salon. Decided to get a haircut last minute and got there at 7:45 pm, 15 minutes before closing. I didn't get in the chair until closing time due to a few customers before me, but they weren't phased at all. The gentleman was very understanding about what I wanted, being sure to ask questions when I was ambiguous. The haircut was perfect. Somehow he was extremely meticulous while also working faster than most other barbers. Hands down one of the best haircuts I've gotten. The most surprising part of my experience was the $8 price tag; incredibly difficult to find value like this in the Bay Area. The only deal that rivals this is $1 tacos. It's $10 for a women's haircut, $65 for highlights. The haircut is a great deal for the price! The highlights were done with a lot of care and look great, although it's a tad expensive. It's a very bare-bones place, and the line can get pretty long on weekends (~40 minutes wait) - so I suggest coming here on a weekday. Both my haircut & my highlights were done by the young-ish female barber with a young daughter who sits by her, I highly recommend her. She's now my regular barber. I used to go to another place nearby, but the stylist got way too popular and his phone started ringing off the hook like he was some kind of celebrity. Then he'd stop mid-haircut to answer the phone. Finally he started wearing Kanye sunglasses, and that was the last straw. How can you properly see someone's hair if you're wearing Kanye sunglasses?! What if you cut off their ear instead?! I would name the place, but my folks still go there and I'm afraid that if I give it a bad review the stylist with attitude will banish them forever! I did a haircut at Lucky Cuts just today. I went all the way from San Jose to this place since I was going to be around. The staff is friendly, gets your haircut done swiftly, the price is great and the haircut was GREAT. I used to go to SuperCuts but I think my cut today was way better than any SuperCut I had previously. I told the lady to cut it short. She cut the hair to suit my face rather than cutting it way too short. They do not accept any cards and takes only Cash which is no big deal. read more

It's a cheap place to get a haircut ($7.99 last check). What I like is that I can get in and out in about 15 minutes or so. The barbers (save for one and trust me you'll know which one when you get there) aren't talkative which is fine with me. I just want to get my hair cut and move on with my life. If you like you hair cut a certain way, just tell them and they'll do it (or the best that they can). If you like the way someone cuts your hair, make sure you get their name and remember their face and have them cut your hair every time you go there. That's what I do and I have no complaints. I'll even wait until my barber is free to get the cut I want. Even when they are busy, the line moves pretty quickly. If you call ahead you can make an appointment to avoid the wait. I've gotten my haircut here a handful of times, only because it's cheap and everywhere else I've tried cost a little bit more for about the same results. I used to get my haircut by Kim. Each time it's been hit or miss. Sometimes, she'll take her time and do a decent trim. Most of the time, she'll rush you through if there are a lot of walk-ins and people waiting. (I used to always make an appointment, too). When she rushed me through, my hair would look terrible. The layers wouldn't blend and everything would be choppy and uneven. Of all the times I've gone, I've gotten more bad cuts than good ones. I gave 2 stars: one star for the 1 (maybe 2) times I got a decent trim and the other star for my own fault for getting what I paid for. How much can I expect from a cheap haircut? ($14 before tips) After the last bad cut, I decided to stop going for good. Time to find a truly skilled hairdresser and just pay more! If you're just looking for a quick trim with no style or you just want a buzz cut, I would recommend this place. Keep looking if you need to cut long layers or if you're a guy who wants some style.
