We grabbed some ice cream after dinner at Ed's Real Scoop. I've been to one of their other locations before, impressed they have four shops total. It's a few doors down from Café Polonez. We dropped in on a busy Friday evening (around 8:45pm). The line kept on getting longer and was eventually out the door. That being said, service was quick and efficient. There's a variety of ice cream, gelato, sorbet and yogurt options. Scoops are $4.56 (kiddie), $5.57 (regular) and $7.82 (large). Nice that you can get two flavours with any size option. They also have pies, cakes, ice cream sandwiches and pints. - Regular ($5.57) - we went with red hot chili chocolate and apricot sorbet. Both flavours were satisfying and the texture was spot on. Apricot was fruity and a touch tangy. Red hot chili chocolate had a subtle, underlying heat and reminded me of a not too sweet fudge. Our other friends tried passionfruit yogurt and espresso, all of which were thoroughly enjoyed/devoured. ERS is a solid ice cream spot. read more

Another window set up due to Covid-19 protocols. This shows restaurants are still capable of operating safely for customers. My fiancé and I decided to get a regular cup which consisted of two scoops varying two flavours. We picked strawberry ice cream & pistachio gelato. Their menu had an array of different flavours from ice cream, gelato, and sorbets. However, milkshakes are currently not available at this location for the time being. The total came out to $5.80, which was reasonable. We got a cute designed cup as shown in the photo. Two decently sized scoops of strawberry and pistachio. The strawberry flavour was delicious and sweet. It contained small strawberry chunks as well that made it much more enjoyable. For the pistachio, it had a refreshing nutty taste that isn't apparent as other pistachio flavours I've had before. It really tasted smooth and new for me. My stomach could really tell this was real dairy, but it doesn't affect the rating because the ice cream and gelato was fresh and tasty. Ed's Real Scoop scoops the good stuff and keeps it real. Their name is bang on, great job Ed. This Roncesvalles staple brings all the kids to the yard, so if you aren't a family person, you might get a little overwhelmed here. I, however, almost always have my tiny psycho (said with love) in tow, so I'm here for this family-friendly ice cream shoppe. My daughter loves their strawberry in a small cone. To her, it is the greatest snack food in all of Toronto. I don't eat a lot of ice cream, but when I do their burnt marshmallow can't be beat, and they've got espresso milkshakes if you want to perk up sweetly this summer. read more

I went for a walk this afternoon and stopped in at Ed's Real Scoop. I was craving an ice cream and as I've never been there before, I thought I'd stop in. You can buy ice cream to take home. They make their ice cream in-house. There were lots of flavours of ice cream and gelato to choose from! I got a large cup with a scoop of Deepest Darkest Chocolate ice cream and a scoop of Coconut ice cream. Both were delicious! There were tiny crunchy chunks of chocolate in the chocolate ice cream. Wow!!! So many amazing flavours!! Choosing just two was the hardest decision I made all day. I had the chocolate toffee and burnt marshmallow. Both were incredible. I opted for a sugar cone, but there are also regular and waffle (1.49 extra). The staff was very polite and let me try a few flavours before I finally decided which two I wanted. Great place for ice cream in Roncy, with the current window set up due to COVID-19, there will definitely be a line up on a nice sunny day. They have a bunch of ice cream flavours (with quite a few unique ones like Sweet Cream, and S'mores), a handful of gelato flavours and a couple sorbet flavours. I got the two scoops with Pistachio and Coffee Toffee. The Coffee Toffee was more coffee than toffee, as it was sweet and had a nice and balanced smoky coffee flavour. The pistachio was also great - it was nutty and almost perfectly replicated the full-bodied flavour of pistachio but for the creaminess of the gelato that superseded the nuttiness, with a sweet-cream note at the very end. As a die-hard ice-cream aficionado, Ed's is serving up some amazing ice cream and frozen desserts! read more

We were walking along Roncy on Canada Day and everyone had a hankering for some ice cream so we circled back on our walk and joined the line-up at Ed's RS. They've got a team of staff churning out the orders and still manage to take the time to allow people to have a taste or two to make the right ice cream call. Price was reasonable, but the servings were unmatched. I got a regular and I was stuffed, someone walked passed us with a large and it looked like a circus balancing act on a cone. As I mentioned, even my 2 year old daughter who has recently come to LOVE ice cream got a kiddie scoop which was enough for a responsible adult (and you got to choose up to two flavours). Came by here on a Friday afternoon after work, I was really glad that I stopped by. Service: Slow, but friendly and attentive. A young lady was the only one working, so there was waiting period of a couple of minutes. Dessert: Could not choose one flavour, so I ended up getting Tanzanian dark chocolate & spicy chili chocolate gelato (flavours). Both were really great- each flavour was rich, creamy, and thick, just the way gelato should be! The portion was generous too, the flavours were piled up high like a mountain in a cup (I got a regular size cup to scoop my gelato!) I highly recommend you to give this place a try! tl:dr - FIRST YELPER HERE! Anyhoo, the same team from Ed's in the Beach and Leslieville, is back at it in Roncy. Definitely a welcome addition to this west end neighbourhood! Oh I got to meet THE ED of Ed's Real Scoop :) This was a stopover while waiting for my table over at Barque Smokehouse. Much to my surprise, it was their first day opening and they still had the fresh paint smell that will probably go away in about a week or so. It was a nice distraction to hold us over for the half an hour wait over at Barque. Much to my surprise we were greeted by THE Ed of Ed's Real Scoop and his wife Jennifer. They told us about the history of Ed's (they've been going strong for 13 years now!), how they don't care for selling in volume to big grocery chains, and deliberately want to keep it small to be as close to the customer as possible and deliver the most unique, delicious and innovative ice creams and gelato Toronto and dare I say Canada has to offer. To be honest, I was genuinely delighted to talk to the owners and get to know their story. Everything trickles down from the top and it really shows that their business will last for many many years to come if the values and philosophy of Ed is passed down through the years of Ed's successors. They might stop at 3 locations or they might not but it's a family run business and I am in love with how warm and receptive they are to their customers/fans whom they've never met before. They have such a strong brand, that I was surprised it was that busy on the first day - and it was about 3-4 degrees celsius!... I guess people really do love Ed's and their ice creams. They'll be the perfect stopover if you're ever in Roncy or looking for a place to go before or after going to any of the fantastic restaurants in the 'hood! read more

Apparently if you get the waffle cone, you find a surprise at the bottom - Melted marshmallow! Wow! I didn't get the waffle cone because it's just way too big for me, but the idea of marshmallow instead of solid, cold chocolate at the end of the cone sounds wonderful... Friendly service, samples available, clean, & great product! Both ice cream & gelato is made on-site. Regular size, 2 flavours only, was $4 in a cup. I *believe* cone was more expensive, but don't quote me on that. The only thing that would've made it better was if you were able to get more flavours in the cup as in Europe. The servings are generous so I would go for their smallest size. When you walk into their amazingly well air conditioned store - make sure you close the door behind you - you are faced with a beautiful display of gelato. They have an entire other freezer with their take out ice cream and another freezer for their ice cream that is ready to be scooped. The staff are ready to serve you and provide samples, if needed/wanted/requested. Yes! Prior to walking into this land of everything that makes the world right, you smell the fresh waffle cones wafting along Roncesvalles and you see the people lingering on the street, eating their ice cream. It is silent. They are busy. Once inside, if you walk further in the back, you will see where they make their ice creams and you know, well, you already knew you were in for an ice cream treat or ice cream heaven, if you believe in such things. Ed's has a variety of flavors both traditional and radically traditional. Everyone will find a flavor or two or three to fill their own desires. I've been watching the renovations for the past two months with anticipated drool. As soon as lunch rolled around I crossed the street (did I mention this place is directly across the street from where I work?) and walked inside. They have an amazing selection of ice cream and gelato, and the kids love it. It's not too expensive, which is surprising given the seasonality of their business. I agree with some of the others, by far not the best, and very misleading with the "handmade". Flavorless, too much sugar and expensive for what it is. I think it is the MacDonald s generation that is giving all the high stars ratings here. We are in for trouble as the MacDonald generation grows up when it comes to food and quality. If it doesnt come in a box on a plastic tray, it cant be good :) Bang Bang on Ossington is Definitely more fun. Bang Bang is no more healthy etc... but they don't try to imply they are handmade or healthy and I think truth (good or bad) is very important. read more
