Bought $30 trailer light from the Superstore, found out it was just a loose wire. Tried to return the light, but they only do exchanges. Glad I did not buy a $75, 000 boat from them. Original review covered how I spent $60,000+ on a boat/motor and discovered that a part was missing. After many phone calls, etc. they finally agreed to send me the part....if I paid for the $10 in shipping!!! Wrote a review telling story. Thought I would try again. Needed a new motor. Called them. They said they wouldn't sell me one because I gave them a a bad review ! Well duh.... They are perhaps the worst company to do business with that I have ever encountered. I called in today to seek advice and price on a jon boat. The woman on the phone was very helpful and knowledgeable. When I asked about availability that's where the call went south. She said, "Because of Wuhan shipments have been delayed." I paused not feeling comfortable with the name she used to describe COVID19. I ask what the lead time is on an order and she want again said, "well because of the Wuhan..." At this point I asked her if we could not call the virus by that name but instead by COVID19 and she responded, "I just don't want anyone to forget where it came from." I was stunned and deeply offended. I politely said, "Thank you for your time and hung up." This dealer sounds like they know their products, but it will be served with a not so subtle side of racism. I reached out to Ed's via the Mercury website to request information on cost to repower my boat. I have a 2001 225 Mercury Optimax on a 2001 Triton TR21. I was looking for a quote to move to a new 250 ProXS Four stroke. I received an email response that I would be contacted by a sales person. Thereafter, I got a voice mail with a quote that started with a good price on the new motor, but very quickly escalated to an additional $10k, without much explanation. When I called back for more detail, I was told the motor would be $17k, the new hydraulic jack plate I wanted would be $3.5k, and that I needed new gages, controls, and other stuff for a total of $26.4k. I asked why the jack plate, a TH Marine Atlas 6", was $3.5k when I could get it online for $1.5k ( actually, I got it for $1.2k with a 20% off sale). I was told "that's our price." I asked if I could bring it in and pay them to install it when they took my old motor off. I was told "No, we don't play that game. You can install it yourself." She also stated they would not move my Power Pole from the old jack plate to the new in any case. I asked for a written quote broken down by each item. I then found $1k for a stainless steel prop, which is overpriced and not needed (I have four that will work). I asked the manager if there was another sales person I could work with and was given another name and contact, but also told that they would not install a new motor without new controls and gages even though Mercury sells a harness to use my existing equipment. At that point, I stopped considering this dealer for my work. I've since found a closer dealer who has been much more pleasant to deal with and has no problem with the set up and requests I am making. We have reached a deal with me buying the jack plate and them doing everything else for a bit less than $22k and this does include a new Smartcraft gage. Bottom line, they seemed much more interested 8n selling me what they wanted rather than meeting my needs. read more

Ed's Marine is a joke... Go in for a carb gasket and fuel line. Was told to get the line from NAPA. And that Johnson didn't make a 15hp in '96. When you go online there are over 20 different models for that year in a 15hp. Guess I'll just stick to online shopping. And people wonder why businesses are closing their doors! They put a new motor and stop switch on my boat and now none of my electrical switches work (lights, bilge, fuel gauge, etc). They say that they could have not worked before they did their wiring and won't even look at it. They say they will stand by their work but they really don't. Called and spoke to Lisa to get a quote on several Outboard engines. I called back and told them the one that I wanted. They said it was in stock and gave me the out the door cash price. I told them I would be there the next day with a cashiers check. I drove 90 miles the next day with the check to purchase the motor as discussed, and they sold it before I got there. At no time when I received the quote was I told they only had one in stock. I was told by Lisa when I got there "Oh well , that's business" (basically "tough sh*t). Spoke with the manager who offered nothing. They will never get any of my business. read more

Bought a Mercury 150 four stroke from Ed's but when I picked up the boat they explained that they couldn't hook up the battery because the run was too long and it may void the warranty...Mercury said that was nonsense. Also said existing prop wouldn't fit properly...Mercury said props haven't changed in decades. Ed's takes shortcuts and does not go the extra yard. That may explain the good deal I got. read more

I ordered a 30hp Mercury outboard with a binnacle and prop from them and had it shipped to Texas. I paid $900 in shipping for all of the items. When it all made it to my installer I was told the binnacle wouldn't fit so I contacted them to return the binnacle. I paid $500 for the binnacle and received a check for $325 for the return. When I asked the owner Marc about it he said he charged me a restocking fee of 25% plus $50 for shipping. I pointed out that the contract stated that re-stocking fees apply to motors and boats not parts and that I paid $900 in shipping fees. He then tells me that he did me a favor by allowing my unopened return at all and I was charged the extra $50 because the binnacle wouldn't fit with the outboard. This is absolutely horrible service from a company that made 1 $7100.00 sale over the phone with no price haggling on my end at at. STAY AWAY from this place. read more

Our experience with Ed's was going great. Bought a 2022 16 foot chawk. Decided to purchase brand new because of the warranty. We have had the boat for six days now and taken it out once. Unfortunately it appears that the trailer was not set up correct and we now have a deep scratch in the paint on the keel. We contacted Ed's figuring since we had not even had the boat a week and we had done everything properly on our end that they would be willing to fix the paint on the bottom of our boat and adjust the trailer. Instead they did not want to take any accountability and tried to place blame on us and how we took the boat on and off the trailer. Probably because this voids the warranty and they wouldn't have to fix it. We did not load the boat improperly, we barely have an inch from the keel to the bar and you can see once its at an angle to load and unload where the boat will hit the trailer. Buyer beware. They do not take accountability and the warranty is a joke. read more

I tried to buy an outboard motor from them and was told that they won't ship. I told them that I could come by and pick it up but again they refused to sell me one with the claim that they aren't allowed to sell them without installing it themselves. When I questioned this they said that all big retailers do this. When I asked about this price it was very high. The sales rep then told me that they are over a month out and I would have to drop my boat off and wait my turn in line. This is the first time I have ever heard of a refusal to sell a product unless the seller gets the install. Husband drove two hours to take boat in for repair. They said it was ready. Drove four hours round trip only to find it wasn't fixed. Brought it back down and when he went to pick up, they charged $30 for parts and refused to take a credit card. They are currently holding the boat hostage until my husband comes up with $30 cash which he doesn't have. We have spent $100 in gas due to their incompetence and now have to leave once again because we do not own an ATM card. This is by far the WORST customer experience I've ever seen. read more

Bought a new 20 C hawk sales person was great. That's about it. Drove 3.5 hours to the store great pricing . When I got the boat home lights didnt work, wash down leaked had to install hydulic steering to turn the boat and bilge pump mounted to high to pump any water. All the hatch leaked and center console. They did say being it back so they could look at it , but had to drive another 3 hours back. I guess if they would sea trailed the boat before delivery they would have seen the problems. I think they sell alot of boats outside the state knowing they will have very few returns. I will not go to this dealer again. I went to this store to look at Tidewater boats. I was met by a salesman who showed me one that was the size I was interested in. I didn't care for the color or upholstery color, particularly when they were advertising others online that I preferred. I asked if there were any other colors or models elsewhere on the property and he said no, this is the last one, the others they have are all sold. I asked if I could see the others to see the colors, particularly one in gray. He said no. He pointed dismissively at another boat of another manufacturer that had a swatch of gray and said, in effect, it's something like that. Wow. That was three weeks ago and they are still advertising several models online in various colors that were advertised when I went there. At a minimum they are lazy and not updating their website. At the worst, it's false advertising. It wasn't raining that day or anything - the salesman just didn't care about showing me anything other than the one boat he wanted to sell. He also wasn't interested in selling a Yamaha engine, my stated preference. He gave me a load of bs about the superiority of Mercury over Yamaha, blah blah blah. He even went so far to preposterously claim the engine prices are the same and he makes more on a Yamaha deal than a Mercury deal. I closed with another dealer yesterday for the same Tidewater model at a lower cost, with electronics, and a bigger Yamaha engine. I'm frustrated that I ignored the other online comments about this place and wasted my time on a beautiful day. read more

My husband and I drove over 2 hours to pick up our boat. We had them install a new motor. Very good price on the motor, but once they were completed with the install, there were numerous charges that were extremely overpriced. Some charges were for looking at items, that did not need to be fixed, but we were charged a fee to look at it. They refused to take our credit card. Considering we did not know the area, I could not get back in time with the cash. Basically we were told if it was a minute after 2, we would have to wait. We called the police, but unfortunately we were unable to take our boat. Police indicated that we would have to take up our complaint to small claims court. So as Mark Godbolt was turning around to head back into the shop, he said " See nobody really cares". This is horrible customer service! Basically they held the boat hostage over a few hundred dollars. We had to make a return trip that following Monday to bring them cash. There staff was very rude and we will never use this establishment again. BUYER BEWARE... looks good on the front end, but they take advantage of their customers on the back end.. read more

I was called UNAMERICAN because I tried to buy a brand new 90hp mercury engine and have it installed somewhere else . Lise stated it was unamerican for me to do that . She states if they did not install it then she couldn't sell me the engine just because it not American ! I had 7600+$ in cash to pay for it . My boat is in dry storage in Virginia Beach . My only option was to buy the engine and have my people install it . It was the craziest phone conversation I've ever had . Never will I recommend or step foot in Eds marine superstore again ! They will promise you delivery in 4-6 weeks then here comes the lies!!! "We cannot check on the status because we are not allowed". A week later "I can check on the status, oops it will be three months before it is ready". The SALES MANAGER states "it is what it is" "we are lucky to get these boats when we get them". As his frustration rises so does his voice!!! Customer Service is non existent. Do not buy from these people!!! Lisa does not give straight answers and David is unaware how to treat people. I called to confirm inventory, when they confirmed they had the prop needed. Drove from Fredericksburg to pick up that day - when I got there they did not have the size they had just confirmed hours earlier. They proceeded to argue that the prop would work and the manufacture prop size isn't "Exact Science". After explaining what a enormous waste of time they had caused, was told "It is what it is" and if i wanted the wrong part. All the staff there are incompetent and are barely functioning retards. Mentioning the name Ed's Marine is like opening Pandora's box. Horror stories abound. The Better Business Bureau says that Ed's is the worst area offender. My sad story involved the purchase of a new boat and motor. The worst buying experience of my life. Ed's failed to perform two dealer recalls on the motor before delivery, which was discovered after the boat was down at the Bay. Ed's was no help, so Yamaha had to get involved. Another dealer performed the service. The Yamaha rep discovered that the two batteries sold to me by Ed's were undersized and would void the warranty. Ed's would not refund, but gave only HALF value in store credit. Next we discovered that Ed's had quietly provided a LEFT hand engine instead of the standard right hand. Then we discovered that the motor had a 30" shaft, even though the boat required a 25" shaft. Ed would not change out the motor, suggesting instead that the boat be sent back to manufacturer to have the transom bracket relocated ... 24 new holes to be drilled and 24 to be filled ... ridiculous! I had to buy a new 25" shaft motor, and sell the white elephant that Ed's had pawned of on me. It took months to find someone to buy it. Never again will I set foot in Ed's Marine showroom. Their notoriety is well deserved. Too bad that one star is the lowest rating available. read more
