I don't get what all the hype is about. I had the canella (cinnamon) and pistachio. The waffle cones was delicious (probably my favorite part), the portions were generous and the gelato was very creamy - almost as soft as whip cream. I've been in Italy for a week and found everyone to be kind and friendly but the service here was rude - the scooper complained about my broken Italian right in front of me as if I wasn't there - and I didn't find the flavor of the gelato as rich, inventive or impressive as other places I have tried. I tried a lot of gelato during my time studying abroad in Italy (you can never have too much) but my absolute favorite gelateria was Edoardo's; it's easily the best gelato in Florence. A stones throw from my apartment, I made it a point to stop at Edoardo's as often as I could. It's a small shop located behind the Duomo and offers organic gelato. Edoardo's has mostly seasonal flavors but they have staples like cinnamon and chocolate. A cup or cone costs under 3 euros and comes with two flavors; my favorite pairing was cinnamon and pistachio. They make everything in house using only the freshest ingredients and also make their own waffle cones. The gelato is creamy, but light, and has tons of flavor. Some of their seasonal flavors, such as apple, have bits of the fruit in it so you know it's not artificial flavoring. I have dreams about the cinnamon! Though there were always long lines, service here was quick and the staff was always so sweet; after going in so many times they start to recognize you. Since I've been back home, I've tried some gelato shops but nothing comes close to Edoardo's. I've recommended it to friends who were honeymooning in Florence and they loved it so Edoardo's is definitely a must-try if you're visiting Florence! read more

It's on the pricey side ... 3 euro for a small cone, however they are generous with the portions, unlike most other gelaterias in the the same zone. Edoardo's is located right in the heart of Florence, behind the famous Duomo. The first time I came I tried the chocolate, mint and almond flavors ... all amazing. I didn't think I'd find organic gelato for the same price as conventional tourist trap gelato, and it was one of my favorite gelaterias in Florence because their gelato is creamy and they have the best cones! My favorite flavors were cinnamon and pistachio. The cinnamon with their cone reminds me of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal--delish! I measure gelaterias by their pistachio flavor, and Edoardo's is one of the best I've had. They also offer whip cream for free! This shop is very small, and you have to make sure you pay first before you can order your gelato. They should make their ordering policy more well-known because I saw some poor people get to the front of the gelato line without having paid first. read more

We first went to Edoardo's Gelateria on June 9, 2013, two weeks after they opened. We weren't sure about the gelato until our first taste. We proceeded to get Edoardo's gelato 5 times in the next 36 hours. No, we're not crazy, it's just that good. We tried 11 flavors - chocolate, mint, pear, cherry, hazelnut, pistachio, chocolate & hazelnut (giancolo), cream, fior de latte (milk cream), cinnamon and almond. Every flavor was delicious - a full flavor, but not too strong and a smooth, creamy texture. They're cheaper in a cup, but they make the cones fresh on the gelato bar, and they taste much more like eating a fresh thin waffle than the normal styrofoam-like kind. The service is friendly, happy to offer tastes and helpful (they speak English). There's no sign outside, but they're located near the Duomo Museum, not quite on the corner - but follow your nose. I was excited to try because of the handmade cones and the place is "bio friendly" with no additives, preservatives and non GMO. This place was good. Ironically, this place is advertises its accommodations for "gluten free" gelato but has no comprise for common tree nut allergies. I showed them my allergy card and was immediately rejected. Essentially they weren't willing to sell me anything from their store as it could be "cross contaminated". As anyone with allergies knows, there's a spectrum of how serious allergic reactions are. There are people okay with cross contamination as long as it's not a main ingredient...the fact that the workers of this place don't even understand what is in their gelato makes it extremely questionable. I got the piccolo (small) cono (cone) with crema (vanilla) and kiwi gelato. All the ingredients they use for the gelato are natural and organic. The crema was a tinge of yellow because they use fresh eggs in the gelato and the kiwi had the little black seeds. Guaranteed signs of it being freshly made. I only spent a day in Florence, but my friends and I had to come here after reading all the amazing reviews. It was actually a little hard to find, but definitely worth the search. If you walk around the Duomo, you'll spot it eventually. The place is small and there is no seating. Just walk straight up to the counter and order. I had the crema (fresh eggs & vanilla) and I can honestly say it was the best gelato I've ever had in my life. As a group, I think we ordered every flavor, and each one of us savored every bite like there was no tomorrow. There's also one flavor with a hint of alcohol that's worth trying. For my 200th review {trumpets blaring}, I wanted to write about one of the newer gelaterias in Florence, but one of my favorites in all of Italy (and definitely north of the Arno), Edoardo. Freshly made and with some really interesting flavors (egg whites or red wine, anyone?), Edoardo's gelato is full of flavor and wonderfully creamy. They don't have a lot of flavors on hand all the time--they have, from what I remember, about 8-10 flavors and a flavor of the week. Each time I went, though, they always had chocolate (a bittersweet, dark chocolate), vanilla, pistachio, and cinnamon among the other flavors that rotated. Service was fantastic, with the workers always polite and patient. When they weren't scooping generous scoops of gelato, they were making their amazing cones, which were crunchy, toasty with a hint of cinnamon. They're yummy but we learned the hard way that if you get a freshly made cone you will end up with gelato running down your hand in a few minutes! After an afternoon of experiencing the Duomo, ogling the food stalls at Mercato Centrale, or just strolling through the city center, do yourself a favor and drop by Ecoardo. I highly recommend a scoop of cinnamon and a scoop of almond on top of their in-house made cone. So delicious. read more

They do speak some English. Two scoops in a cup is €2.50, which wasn't bad. - Zucca: the seasonal pumpkin one, which tasted like actual pumpkin (rather than pumpkin pie spice like you find in the US).
