This is the place to come for gelato in Florence! If this review isn't enough to convince you, just walk by the Duomo and the incredibly alluring smell of freshly baking waffle cones wafting out of the little shop is sure to draw you in! Though they have a somewhat limited menu, the creaminess of the gelato paired with the fresh, warm waffle cones makes this place worth every cent and every calorie. The cone is .50 more than a cup, but you MUST get it! So delicious and fresh! As for the gelato, I opted for the chocolate, which was rich & flavorful, and the pistachio, which was not terribly full of pistachio flavor but was creamy and a refreshing complement to the richness of the chocolate. The scoops were huge and very generous, but the gelato itself was too sweet. The price was reasonable considering how much gelato I was given (3,50€) and they only take cash. Was in the Duomo area and looked on Yelp to see what gelateria's are in the area and decided on Edoardo. My fiance and I both decided to go for the small crispy cup which is 3€ each and got two scoops of gelato. The stratcciatella for one of the scoops and I got the the milk honey and lavender flavour while the fiance got the egg and white wine gelato. Man were these gelatos delicious. You can tell they are real gelato for they are kept the metal closhes/containers and the flavours were not to sweet and creamy like a processed Gelato. The gelato here is amazing for its affordable price. They have a variety of flavors, including vegan options! My friends and I tried coconut, chocolate, hazelnut, lemon, strawberry, etc. While some flavors had rich textures, lemon and strawberry tasted more like sorbet than gelato; perhaps it's because it's vegan, thus made differently. One of my favorite gelato places in Italy because of its uniqueness. Seriously the BEST gelato in all of Florence! It's right across the street from the Duomo. It's a really small shop and you have to make sure you get a number before you order otherwise it can get a bit chaotic. I love how they have fresh waffle cones. They have lots of different flavours which can change from day to day but they have a sign posted outside what they have available that day. The consistency of their gelato is a bit different. Ok... so I was very skeptical of this place, mostly because of its location in the shadow of the Duomo. I thought with lines out the door, it is probably just tourists who don't know good gelato. Today on my way back to the Croce (doesn't quite work like the 'sha), the line wasn't as long, so I decided I would stop in. This place is tiny... you enter in one side (the right side), pay for your gelato, move through to the other side and exit on the left. They have a board outside with their flavors, and instantly the Cannella (Cinnamon) caught my eye. Cinnamon is one of my favourite spices and I don't think it gets used enough! I also saw that they had two boozy flavors: Moscato and Chianti... I will be back to try them, but didn't think they would pair well with Cinnamon. I decided to go with plain chocolate. I will say that they are the most expensive of the places I have been to with the Piccola Copetto costing 2,50. The smell of the waffle cones they were making were intoxicating, but I resisted and stuck to my cup. First of all, both flavors were very creamy, very rich, and very intense. To be honest though, the Cinnamon was the real winner here. And paired with the bit of waffle cone they stuck in the top, it was to-die-for. This little shop has the best gelato I've had in Italy. Crowds flock to Venchi and Grom, but take my advice and skip on down to Edoardo for some mind-blowing organic gelato. In my stay in Florence we ate at this place twice and every flavor was delicious! Each bite tasted incredibly fresh and wholesome. I particularly liked the pear, kiwi, and cinnamon. They make their cones fresh and add free whipped cream on top if you ask. And, it's organic! Yum! Beware! Since eating at Edoardo I haven't been satisfied with any other gelato. I don't get the yelp hype because I thought the gelato here was very average. I'm actually giving this place 2 stars since I was expecting some pretty amazing gelato and left feeling very disappointed. First the location on the yelp map is incorrect. The physical address is correct but if you follow the yelp map like I do, the shop is actually on the other side of the duomo. Second and more importantly, I thought the gelato was very average. We tried the caramel and creama and the gelato was no where as smooth or creamy as Groms or venchis. The texture/flavor seemed more like ice cream rather than gelato. So this place makes each individual by hand. The cone is definitely the highlight. There are various unique flavors such as white wine and red wine sorbet. I opted for the classic flavor chocolate with hazelnut and my second scoop was cinammon.Both flavors were good. I didn't find it the best gelato I have ever had but it was good. it's worth a visit mostly for the homemade cone and the unique flavors if you feel adventurous. I was not impressed by the service. There was a miscommunication with the group in front if me and therefore the one person from the staff scooped the gelato that she had already placed in the cone back to the initial batch. From my understanding she had already put two different flavors at this point but I can't be certain. Not ideal for quality. the other faux pas is that she used that cone for my serving! Probably the best gelato we had while in Italy, and surprisingly it is located in one of the touristy areas of the city. It is located in the main square of the Duomo, about 20 to 30 steps from the dome. They have a mixture of traditional flavors that are very simple but well done (such as the crema), alcoholic flavors, and a rotating menu that changes on a daily basis. We ate there 2 times while in Florence. To top it off they have freshly made cones, which they make in the shop, that are wonderful and compliment the gelato perfectly. The only downside is the wait. As they usually only have one person scooping and running the cash register it can take a surprisingly long time even with a small line. We waited 20+ minutes despite there being about ten people in front of us. If you see a large line I would probably come back later unless you feel like waiting. read more

The man behind the counter was nice enough to give me a lot of different samples and I believe I asked for a mix of apricot and coconut - a great mix if you ask me. This gelato place is located right next to the Duomo and is known for making its own waffle cones. We tried the crema and caramel. Crema was extremely creamy and delicious. Caramel was a little chunky with very little flavor. Cone was crispy but I don't think was just made. Saw it just sitting out on the counter. Overall, probably a little overrated. When you first walk into the shop you'll be surprised at the flavours which available to you. I tasted a number of flavours including red wine, kiwi fruit, white wine with fresh eggs and panettone. They all tasted fantastic. Service was very friendly (good English too) and they also seem to make their own waffle cones. I regret not getting my own. Whenever I travel to new places, I generally have a rule to try as many new things as possible, and to consider new places before anything done before. While in Florence, I ended up going to Edoardo gelato twice. Obviously, gelato is a big deal in Italy in general, and Florence has a place to get gelato seemingly every 50 steps. Needless to say, I'd tried gelato from a variety of places, but that also means I'd also tried a lot of mediocre gelato. Whether they were gummy or just didn't taste as good as I hoped, when the desire for gelato hit again, and I just so happened to be near the Duomo, I knew that it was time to not be explorative and instead go with what I knew was good - Edoardo. Located basically right next to the Duomo, with doors facing the back of the historical landmark, Edoardo is a gem in an overcrowded field of gelato/dessert shops. Usually, I expect places closest to landmarks to be mediocre, having grown complacent with their convenient locations and not feeling the need to churn out quality product, but Edoardo was simply, the best gelato I had, in all of the Italian cities I visited. Since I don't want to end up being 600 lbs., I just get the smallest size, which is a cup with two scoops for 2.5 euros. I tried their chocolate-hazelnut, as well as a rotating flavor that consisted of coconut, banana and chocolate, which were both extremely good. Edoardo's gelato always tasted freshest and higher quality than all the other places that had massive blobs of gelato in a window that I tried. But it's the cinnamon gelato they had that I ended up getting twice as my second scoop, and honestly my favorite one. It seems so basic to like such a generic flavor like cinnamon, but there's no mistaking that I liked it the most. Edoardo is a must-visit for anyone who wants to try gelato while in Florence, or wants to compare what good gelato tastes like in comparison to any ordinary run of the mill gelato. The difference is unmistakable, and I would go back to Edoardo in a heartbeat. read more
