Passing through we read about this place and their specialty, The Steak Sandwich. We stopped in for a taste. We ordered the steak sandwich along with their homemade fries; and Wow, as advertised it's fabulous. The place is has inside and outside seating; menu has burgers and chicken sandwiches and the steak sandwich. The Steak Sandwich was so delicious, made on some sort of soft french roll. We stopped into Edith's for a late lunch when we got into town. Such a great find! The food was excellent and our server was very helpful with suggestions and was attentive. We returned on Saturday evening for the prime rib. It had great flavor. Sides were tasty too. We were disappointed they were not open on Sunday because we were hoping to try their breakfast! We went here for lunch & the large parking lot was packed! A very hometown style cafe that clearly brings in the locals. My companion & I both ordered the "French Dip" sandwich special. We visited Burley for the 4th of July week and took a group of seven here for dinner on Friday the 5th of July. We all had the special which was brisket dinners. We were all shocked that the meat was extremely tough after hearing review from a friend. I asked for a steak knife because the meat was tough. I did not receive a response or a steak knife. So sad that they saw that non of us really ate the meat but gave it all to my cousin to give to her animals. We will not be recommending this location and our local relatives said it is off their list. Sad, hoping for a good location when visiting Burley. read more

I really wanted to like this place. Sadly, they only deserve a 1 star. We arrived Saturday at 7pm. Party of 4. We stood in the lobby waiting for someone to seat us (per the sign) and were behind a party of 6. In the 15-20 mins we stood there, the party of 6 were talked to twice. They said they'd sit anywhere both times. There were empty tables outside that hadn't been cleared. And so the ten of us stood and waited. Finally, we were asked how many and were asked to meet outside for a table. We waited outside as the table for us cleared. Finally we sat. 7:20pm. Then we waited another 20 minutes. No one came over to us. Not one of the wait staff wanted to make eye contact...they continued to walk by as our table sat and sat and sat. No water/drinks on an 90+ degree day. I finally flagged someone down and we ordered drinks and as the waitress walked away, I told her that we'd like to order appetizers. Would have been nice for her to ask if we wanted anything else or even to take our order. Instead it was up to our table to prompt. Got our drinks and appetizers. Gave our order to the waitress. Nothing extreme, three specials and a sandwich. The waitress read our orders back to us from what she'd written down. Perfect! Nope. Not perfect. After watching people around us with a different waitress who were seated after us get their food, not only was our hunger increasing, but also our frustration. 8:15. Food comes out it and one of the side dishes are missing (fries for the sandwich) and our brisket is all cold on the outsides and warm (at best) on the inside (it was basically a pile of brisket pieces as opposed to slices). We ask for the missing fries. 8:30. Still no fries. I go inside to find the manager and pass the forgotten fries heading outside to be served. I decide to just return to our table and leave instead of saying something. I've now lost track of time because at this point we just want to leave. We are asked if we would like boxes and we all said yes. Got our bill when the boxes were brought out. Then we wait for another 10 minutes to get the check and payment picked up. Finally, up I get again and go inside with our bill. Mind you, the inside of the restaurant has very little patrons and there were four tables (including us) of four outside. So it's not like the restaurant is slammed or busy at all. Find our waitress, pay and leave. We definitely won't be back. Which is sad because the parking lot seems to be full all of the time and I'd been wanting to eat here. read more

Best place in town. It's a secret that needs to get out. A very select menu, but have heard no complaints on anything served with my fellow diners during several meals over the last few weeks. In fact, all have been very complimentary. I particularity enjoy their steak sandwich (with extra steak!) and their rib eyes are very tasty. Chef/Owner Tom Jones has got things figured out. He's focused on the basics and does them well. Burgers & fries. That's it. So simple, no menu required. Just let them know what you don't want on your burger. He'll make it a double if you so desire but be warned, you'll need to bring a serious appetite. The burgers are big enough that they're cut in half for ease eating. (or sharing if you're into that sort of thing) The fries are seriously good. It's hard to go wrong with Idaho spuds but these gems are made to order. Depending on how busy the restaurant is you may even get a few chips in the mix. In fact you'll always get your burger 1st so the fries are guaranteed to come out fresh. Chef Tom makes this place what it is. If he's got time, he'll check on guests. Edith's is amazing! We had steak sandwiches, chili burger, fries and a stuffed baked potato. The steak on the sandwich was perfectly cooked with smoky flavor and possibly marinated. It was juicy and on par with filet from you favorite fine dining steak house. The fries were fresh cut and long as the largest Idaho potato. They were perfect, slightly crispy not greasy and a had nice fresh dug potato flavor. They came with fry sauce, I love Idaho! My son down his entire chili burger and said it was very good. We ate on the patio the fragrant cedar chips, pine trees and fresh air only made the experience better. The service was wonderful, every lady working stopped by our table to check on us. Every time I visit Idaho I insist upon a Taco Bandito visit. Moving forward I will only be dreaming of Edith's. read more

This was my first visit to Edith's Cafe. Upon entering it appeared to be nicely decorated, simple yet tasteful. I was there mid-afternoon. I was handed a menu and was equally shocked and disappointed to see how limited the menu was. Just a handful of selections; burgers and a few sandwiches. I ordered a burger and fries. The burger was cooked to my specifications, yet I detected not the slightest bit of seasoning. The fries were delicious. They appeared to be homemade. The biggest detriment to the dining experience was how loud it was in the dining room. Deafening! I was unable to hear my dining companion speak, and we were sitting beside each other! The room was all hard surfaces, so sound just bounced with nothing to absorb it. One had to yell to be heard. As for me, I will return for the fries and will wait for the weather to improve so I can eat them outside, where it's quiet. read more

Service was terrible here. There were several open tables yet we were not seated for 15 minutes. It took an entire hour for our food to come out despite only offering one menu item. The burger was dry and flavorless and most of the volume came from the shredded iceberg lettuce and onion. They also put on pickles when I specifically asked for no pickles. The fries were under-cooked and not salted. Would not recommend at all. read more

Don't bother asking for a menu because there isn't one! Also, be prepared with plenty of cash because they don't take cards and they don't tell you until AFTER you've ordered and eaten. Burger, fries and soft drink were $11.25, plus I had to go find an ATM and come back to pay. On top of that, it's on the edge of town. The burger was unremarkable in every way. Positives: The Fries were ok. The wait staff were not unfriendly (not especially friendly either), but were attentive with the refills. There is a chilled bottle of ketchup and a roll of paper towels on every table. In the end, there are many better and much more convenient options, even in this little town. read more

Not sure why my review was removed so I am putting it up here again. I visited Edith's about a month ago. My family and I were escorted to the very back of the restaurant next to the fish tank. There were no other people in the restaurant at this time. My 4 year old was lightly tapping on the fish tank when cook/owner Tom came out and yelled "Hey!! Do you want me to scare you?!??! My son scared, said "no". Tom then yelled, "well then don't be scaring my fish!!". I immediately got up and told everyone we were leaving. I addressed Tom and told him we were canceling our order due to his lack of respect for our family. He got completely irate, started to insult the children even more. At one point he even wanted to call the police. While we were walking out, a woman who came in during the altercation, came out to apologize on Tom's behalf.
