Edgar installed our furnace 10 years ago when the old unit failed in the terrible winter of 2013. 10 years later, we had a stuck gas valve causing the unit to lock out. I reached out to Edgar again and he was out the next day and got us back up and running. Both Edgar and his apprentice were very professional and they made sure to explain the work done. Great local tradesman if you live in Chicago. Highly recommended and very fair price. read more

On the coldest night of 2019, in the middle of the Polar vortex, with -20° temperature and -50° windchill, my furnace decides to go out. Never on a mild day... of course not! We called several companies to come out and repair and none had techs available. We called a friend to come take look at our furnace in the middle the night as we scrambled to buy all of the portable heaters that Walmart had. He came by, he is a great handyman but could not get it working. The next day, a reputable company came out to give us estimate for repair/replace and the tech/sales guy was great. But the prices... we were quoted $1,000.00 -$1,200.00 for repair, with no warranty on the furnace, just the part replaced (it was either the computer or the heat exchanger. Either part was upwards of $800 for the part plus install and not sure which one it was so we may have had to do both!) We also received a quote for a new one for $5,300.00!!! Our handyman recommended we call Edgar Diaz. He came right away and quoted me LESS THAN HALF of the above price for the same HIGH EFFICIENCY FURNACE (92% efficiency) for a Bryant furnace with full factory warranties. I looked it up in the internet and it had just as good reviews as the TRANE that we were replacing. We gave him the OK and had a new furnace installed and fully functional and WONDERFULLY warm house the next morning! Edgar is an old school gentleman. Soft spoken. Honest. And delivered on his word. Extremely happy with the work, install, and equipment installed. He even re-wired the humidifier and water pump. I highly recommend Edgar. Restores faith in honesty on the trades. read more

After having Four Seasons over to look at our A/C and being quoted $800, I scoured the Hoy Spanish language newspaper for a second opinion. Thank goodness, I found Edgar. He speaks limited English (which is fine by me as I'm fluent in Spanish), but that's where the drawbacks end. The guy is honest, knowledgeable, and affordable. He came out the same day as the call, looked at our entire system, diagnosed, fixed the problem, and all is well with the world. The time between I placed the call to him to the time he left and we had frigid A/C air again: 2.25 hours. The damage? $60. Four Seasons will take advantage of you, "fixing" problems that don't exist if you let them, so don't let them! Edgar is I'm sure one of many better alternatives in town. read more

I recently got ambitious and installed a new thermostat and after programming the thermostat I noticed the furnace wasn't running correctly. With the crazy cold temperatures we've been having this winter I definitely wanted to figure out what's wrong ASAP. I tried figuring it out myself, but after the last week of 0 degree temps... I caved and knew I had to call an expert. So here I am waking up Saturday morning and the house is freeeeeezing. Okay, okay... time to call a pro. Crap, it's Saturday and calling someone to come today is going to cost me an arm and a leg. I looked to find a more independent HVAC shop since I knew going to the usual big guys are going to charge a ton for a Saturday, last minute call. I luckily found Edgar who is listed as being just a few blocks away. I called him and he was here 30 minutes later. Wow! I explained the issue to him and his first guess was right, he fixed it and it's been perfect since. About 50% of the cost of anybody else, he's now my go to HVAC guy. Thanks Edgar! read more

Our furnace was leaking. We called the service company that had worked on it in the past (according to the papers left by the previous owner). That company showed up on time, etc, and diagnosed the problem. We had a cracked heat separator. There wasn't much to be done--we could pay for a costly repair on a 15 yr old furnace or we could just replace. We paid for the service visit and then called three different companies for quotes (including the original servicer). Edgar's price was 40% lower than the original servicer, and 30% lower than the other quote. He showed up on time and worked tirelessly to get the new furnace running (while suffering through hours in an unheated basement-in the midst of the coldest weather Chicago has seen in 25 years). I can't say enough good things about him. Seriously, this is a really hard-working guy who doesn't mess around. Support his business! read more

Of course our heat conks out in late December. Of course our furnace decides to not maintain a temperature late on a Saturday night, requiring me to call a service person on a Sunday. Of course that Sunday is two days before Christmas. Just my lousy luck. The first guy I call tells me he can come out, but his fees are double. So we're looking at north of $180, just to take a look at our furnace. I get it, I can't blame the guy. I can't totally stomach that though, so I look a little more. And that's how I found Edgar. So glad I did. We called at 10:15am on Sunday morning. He said he'd be here between 11 and 12, ended up arriving at about 10:30 (called first to make sure it was ok to come early). He came in, got right to work. Couldn't have been nicer. Checked the thermostat, checked the furnace. He then found the faulty part, replaced it, put his business card on my fridge while I wrote him a check and was out the door by 11. We're now toasty and warm again, and the part and labor combined cost me less than the original guy's REGULAR service call fee (not the double Sunday fee)! I definitely HIGHLY recommend Edgar for your home heating issues. I won't hesitate to call him again. I just hope I don't have to. read more

I hired Edgar to install the ductwork between my home's cold-air return and the furnace. I had torn out the previous ducts and boxing (they were corroded and disgusting) and all that was left was a 1st floor metal grille leading to the basement and the input holes in my furnace. Edgar and his assistant reconnected those via 2 new ducts and also patched several holes in other areas of my basement ductwork. The total including supplies was $350. He also cleaned my furnace and showed me how to light the pilot light. He is a nice guy and was flexible with scheduling around my work hours. I am not a fluent Spanish speaker, but his English is decent. I am interested in learning about my home's heating system and some of my questions didn't seem to come across as far as discussing the positives and negatives of several different routing options. If you aren't the type to pepper a workman with questions, I don't think there would be a problem. He also quoted me a price for installing a new furnace and a/c system in the future (my furnace is 25 years old and I have no a/c now). The only negative I experienced was when he cleaned out my furnace (which was included in the visit). He really needed to change the bag or the filter on his vacuum--it smelled like he had vacuumed up drywall dust with the same vacuum and it was now spewing out into my basement. Both his assistant and I were coughing. So if you hire him just ask him to change out his vacuum filter before he works. Everything else was cool and I would probably call him again in the future. read more

Used this guy last year. He was quick and cheap. Called him 2 weeks ago to fix the furnace at my condo unit I rent out. He replaced ignitor. A week later it goes out again and he fixes it. Still charges me. 4 days later it's out again and he refuses to come out. He claims he doesn't know what is wrong. OK, I appreciate honesty but then I should get a refund for the 2nd visit. He's now not taking my calls. Somewhat competent for simple jobs but best to use a professional. read more

In the midst of ChiBeria this January, our furnace began switching off without warning in the middle of the night. Not good. At 10 AM, I called Edgar; he picked up, unlike most other HVAC repair companies on the North Side during the current frigid stretch, and told me he could come to our house today, and would get back to me on timing. At 1 PM, he called and asked if I was home and still needed service, and was at our house within 30 minutes. He showed me what was wrong with our furnace -- a dirty flame detector -- and fixed it on the spot. He also helped me figure out why our basement wasn't warming sufficiently. The price was lower than I could have imagined, and the whole process took twenty minutes. Heartily recommended. read more

I woke up on a freezing cold December Sunday morning to my furnace not working. I called Edgar at 7:30am, and he was at my house by 9am. By 10am, he had fixed the problem I called about and also identified and fixed another problem. What was the charge for coming out early on a Sunday morning? $50!!! Other places I called were 5 - 10 times as expensive even though this was a minor issue (one small broken part). Amazing. Edgar is knowledgable, professional, friendly and walked me through the issues so that I understood what he was doing. I'd use him again in a heartbeat. read more

Our heat went out the same night our son was running high fevers. We called Edgar in the morning and he came out that same morning and fixed the problem before noon. He is the absolutely nicest and most honest man as well as skilled in his field. We also had him out to clean and check our air conditioner. It needed a repair and he took care of it and now it works perfect. We highly recommend Edgar. read more

January 7, 2014 the two days of sub-zero temps, furnace decides not to start and my pipes are starting to freeze (cold water started to just trickle). Knowing it's going to cost an arm and a leg, I call around. Most are fully booked for the next day or two. Pipes could possibly freeze and burst adding to the situation. I found Edgar and he tells me he'll be here in an hour. I had tried to do my own troubleshooting for a couple hours using YouTube and Google and everything pointed to a bad circuit board which would have cost at least $150. 20 minutes later he found that the exhaust was clogged. Snow, soot, and dirt had piled up inside the chimney flue over the years. Total cost $60, less than what most places charge to just show up. Heat in the basement and water is now running and averted a major disaster. Thanks Edgar! read more

Edgar came out to look at a tough situation that I have with a furnace. There used to be a boiler in the house and switching to a furnace has been tricky, When I started asking him more questions he said, "Oh I have to go now," he then hung up on me. read more

Edgar is awesome. I found him through a friend neighbor of mine. We had a complete central heat and air unit installed on my house.Having worked with many contractors, he definitely exceeded my expectations. He finished the complete job in a 3 day time frame. His job was not only clean and professional, he made sure everything ran the way it should. Having called other AC/heating companies, they said the job could not be completed because of the clearance in the ceiling. He proved all those other companies wrong, I definitely recommend him for any heating or AC jobs issues you may be having. read more

Great guy. Came out same day. He wasn't able to do our repair because he was too busy but he was honest and fair and did a thorough diagnosis of the problem. I was disappointed he couldn't just do the work for us. read more

My heat mysteriously went out sometime over the weekend. I was able to reach Edgar on my first attempt (unlike a competitor who never returned multiple calls) and he came out within one hour and identified/solved the problem by replacing the sensor within 15 minutes. So, finally, HEAT, and at a very reasonable cost! They also do routine seasonal cleaning of you HVAC unit too. Would highly recommend - thanks Edgar! read more

Edgar was a straight shooter. My doctor recommended that I buy a freestanding air purifier to help my allergies and asthma, but when I started pricing freestanding units, I realized they weren't cheap either and weren't well-suited to purifying air in large open spaces. I figured we'd never had our furnace serviced in 4 years, so it couldn't hurt to have someone take a look, do any necessary routine maintenance, and tell us what our options were for modifying the furnace to include better air purification. Edgar came in and after looking for 30 seconds, told us we should call the people who installed the existing furnace, and that it was probably a significant job, and that there was no point in him even servicing the furnace now if we were about to make significant modifications. He didn't charge us a cent. He could have easily charged us for a service call, and we wouldn't have batted an eye. read more

My cousin Rosie recommend Edgar's Heating Service to me. She was very pleased with their service and gave them a 5 star review.

Edgar and his guys do a great job They are on time they know what they are doing and they get the job done, for a fair price. I will be happy to highly recommend them to my friends and clients read more

My AC went out last week, which happened to be one of the hottest days so far this summer, my apartment was a balmy 92 degrees. After calling several companies and getting one quote, we wanted to get a second quote and Edgar was able to come out on the same day and promised that he could get the air going the next day. The condensor needed to be replaced and he promised a quick job and he was right...I had the AC working the next morning. Edgar is fast, efficient and he quoted a fair price. I definitely will recommend his service to my friends and family. read more

Hottest day of the year and of course the AC breaks. I call around and most companies wanted between 80 - 125 just to come out and see whats wrong, not to mention a day or twos wait. Edgar was about half that and came to me with 2 hours. He fixed the problem quickly and was very reasonable in price. He knew what he was doing and was very professional. Skip the big companies and call Edgar, he is the man! Thanks again!!! read more

I found Edgar on Yelp when my usual furnace guy was too busy to come. My furnace was making a weird noise, or so I thought. He came the same day and assured me all was well. And didn't even charge me for the visit! I couldn't believe it. I have since used him to give me a quote on replacing my furnace. He was like $1000 cheaper than most other companies. He is on time, reliable, and totally honest. He gives "old school" customer service that is affordable, fair, honest, and just plain good! read more

My AC conked out on a very hot Friday evening in August. I found Edgar here on Yelp, and based on his reviews, gave him a call. It was 8:00 pm, so I expected to leave a message, maybe hear back from him on Monday..... Instead, he picked up, and told me he'd be by the next morning at 10:00! The next morning, he showed up right on time, and had my AC back on line in no time at all, he even gave me some important maintenance tips to keep the ol' AC running longer. Great service, reasonable rates, and Edgar is a real stand up guy. Highly Recommended! read more

After purchasing a winterized home, I called Edgar to come over and fire up two furnaces and a hot water heater. He was 1/2 the cost of other companies I called, flexible and on time, and got the job done! Good value, nice guy. read more

Edgar was professional, easy to talk to, honest and to the point. Out of nowhere, our AC was not blowing cold air; mind you, we have an older unit. We immediately got in contact with Edgar and he came out within the hour to check on the AC unit. He did his thing and the AC was working just fine, but he did warn us that it was only a test. If the unit continued to blow cold air then we were ok for the summer otherwise, we would need to replace it, due to a potential leak. The next day Edgar called to check on the status of the unit and like he thought the unit was blowing hot air once again. We made the decision to replace the unit and scheduled it for two days later. Well he got it done the next day! Overall, great experience with Edgar, highly recommended for any AC issues. He does heating as well. read more

Very honest and fair. I called Edgar to replace an outdated furnace which was not running properly in one of my rental units. Although it was the day after Christmas he was very prompt and was able to complete the work on the next day even though it was the holiday. Not only did he complete the work earlier than expected he ended up charging me significantly less than what was originally estimated. Now that is good character and honesty, along with great work! read more

There are not enough words to describe how fantastic Edgar is. Our heat went out in January and I called around for a few estimates. Of course because it is winter time and they knew I was desperate, the fees were ridiculous. I refused to believe that there was not a single heating and cooling company in Chicago that would be honest and fair. Herein comes Edgar. I found him based on the few reviews on Yelp and called him on a Sunday. He came to our place within an hour and quoted me for half the price of the other companies. And he didn't charge an overtime rate for coming on a Sunday! The next day him and his crew came in, replaced our heater, and took away all the trash related to the replacement. Edgar is not only great at what he does, he is also a kind and honest human being. I will be recommending him to everyone! read more

I awoke yesterday to my thermostat reading 59 and my doggie at my head to keep warm. First time to turn on the heater all season and it only worked for 10 minutes. I needed to get this looked at immediately. Had some friendly referrals I was researching on Yelp, and disregarded them when I saw Edgar's sole review. Since he is in the neighborhood, I thought I'd give him a call. In so many words, he was very awesome--efficient, practical and affordable. He has a good command of English too that should hold back responders. My heater is working wonderfully and I would highly recommend Edgar for heater woes. read more

I found Edgar on Yelp and hired him today to fix my condo's AC unit. Very positive experience and I certainly recommend and will use him again. Rather than deal with the large companies out there, it was refreshing to work directly with the owner of his own business. He was on time and was able to fix the issue quickly. I'm a bit of a DIYer and Edgar was more than happy to explain what he was doing. He was proud of his work and it showed. read more

I have not used Edgar at all. Why just 1 star? Based on so many good reviews on Yelp, I called him up to get a quote for a small job, to install a humidifier. No problems there, he was very eager to come to do the work, the price was very low and he seem to be very honest which was the main reason I picked him up after reading a few reviews on Yelp. His honesty got him in trouble...although was a small job, I needed a receipt to show it to a home inspector. When he heard that, everything went South. The so "Honest" and friendly Edgar turned into a sarcastic, ironic man who didn't want to have anything to do with a job that required him to put a cross next to the work he would have performed. He might be the nicest Mexican around but what's the point if you don't stand by your work? Why should anybody trust you Edgar when you told me you don't even have a license to operate in the City of Chicago? read more

Our heat wasn't working on the coldest day of the year. We got Edgar's name from a friend and when we called him he came over the same day! He was honest, knowledgeable and efficient. We definitely recommend him! read more

Edgar Heating is the ONLY company I trust to repair my furnace and A/C . Our heat went out on Christmas Eve in 2010 and my furnace was fixed before 5:00 pm(total time from call to repair 4 hours!) We have been calling on Edgar for our AC (which he installed) and our heating issues for about 18 years , we are always happy with the service that Edgar provides, his prices are More than fair, he's on time, polite and knowledgeable. we speak no Spanish but we have never had any problems communicating at all, In fact he was here today to replace our old thermostat (job time less than a hour) great price as usual and I would Highly recommend him to anyone looking for a good, honest repairman (they are rare these days!!) read more

Edgar is on time, honest, helpful, and charges very fair rates for his services--a great find in Chicago!

Thank you so much for coming out fast and fixing it fast. This guy is honest and the prices were very fair. He only takes cash or check but that was my only issue but it well worth it the money I saved. I had a major company come out a few weeks before and totaly jacked me around its great to find a honest good tech in this area.
