Finally after 23 years I made it to Eden Cafe. They used to be in shopping center across 336 from Walmart in Conroe. Always have heard good things about it, but never made time until now. We were promptly seated and asked what we would like to drink. For dinner my husband had catfish, hushpuppies and coleslaw. He was happy with his dinner and I took note the catfish was cornmeal battered which is the right batter for fish in my opinion. I had Chicken Marsala, sweet potato casserole and creamy jalepeno corn. The chicken had a nice flavor to it and it was moist. The creamy jalepeno corn was lacking a bit in flavor. Just a bit of onion, more jalepeno and a little salt and it would have worked. I loved the sweet potato casserole. All flavors blending in well. Service was great as well. We will return. read more

Food was amazing but the service was ok. With the hostess seeming as if she was not trained, it threw a wrench into the fluidity of the experience. People were constantly telling her how to do things but in a more negative critiquing context. We could definitely feel the tension. I've been here a few times and the service is usually very friendly but the restaurant is loud and the food was good but nothing over the top unbelievably outstanding. So I was disappointed to say the least. I think the downer was the environment it's an open dining room and doesn't allow for privacy and if there's a loud table next to you it ruins your dinner. On our last visit the waitress was less than enthusiastic about being there, rattling off her resume about how she once did other more important things than being a server? There were lots of options on the menu and daily specials. The yam souffle has nuts so be sure and let the staff know about any food allergies. I haven't completely given up on this place but it's not high on my list. read more

Amaze balls. Drove out to Magnolia to visit a friend who was chiropracticing (not a real word) for the day and I was hungry. He yelped this spot and told me to surprise him. The menu was amazing but we are meatless. Yes, I said meatless. Becca (the server that helped me the to go order) said they could sub veggies - yay! Order: Pasta Marsala - no chicken, add broccoli and spinach, squash, zucchini Veggie platter- mash potatoes, Spanish rice, asparagus and yuca Tuscan bruschetta - no prosciutto with tomatoes The Tuscan bruschetta was so delicious. I wanted to stuff them all in my face. Flavored wonderfully and just plain good. I love the yuca (which was kinda like yummy steak fries) and the asparagus. This is my second visit to this chain. The first time, I had meatloaf. It reminded me of a can of dog food. If there were veggies in it, they were blended to a pulp. The taste matched the texture. On this trip, I ordered the country fried steak, creamy jalapeño corn, and mashed potatoes with calamari as an appetizer. The calamari would have been void of flavor had I not bathed it in marinara sauce. The potatoes and corn were very good. To eat the steak, I needed a sawzall and hyena teeth. I had neither at my disposal. I finally gave up on the steak. Food wasted! I don't see why people still eat here. How is this place still in business? I blame the wine! I won't be back. read more

This place I have been going to for about 13 years. Best place to get food for a fancy night out, or a little hold me over. Every dish is delicious. It is family owned and the owner is always waiting tables and making everyone feel at home. It is a cozy environment and can never pass it up when i'm really hungry. Good wholesome food and excellent service. Our drinks were refilled promptly, orders were placed and came out in a timely manner. I ordered the blackened salmon with spinach and broccoli. The salmon tasted fresh, not frozen and had just a little blackened spice to it in addition to a sweet glaze with pecans. Very delicious. My sides were also well executed with garlic to give it flavor. My buddy says this place is his favorite restaurant and I can easily see why. read more

I was immediately seated. The restaurant had a strong Christian-family ambience. There is a wine bar! The waiter was VERY friendly. I got mozzarella sticks for a starter and they were crunchy and gooey but they weren't as good as the Goose's Acre if I were to compare them. They lacked flavor. The entree was street tacos and they were indeed tasty, but very dry. A salsa was provided on the side and I wasn't too fond of it for it was rather sweet and spicy. The feta cheese complimented the corn tortillas and chicken with cilantro. The Spanish rice was not bad- I didn't finish it. The menu itself was disappointing because it wasn't actually Cuban...it was mostly American with a small "speciality" section with maybe 5 Cuban dishes. I wish it was the reverse. The music was downright annoying. Pop country was on repeat-it was painful. I wish they would've played some Cuban music. I don't see myself coming here again. Stopped in tonight and the catch of the day was Redfish in a pecan bread crust with a special Super-chef sauce. Out of this world. My wife had the Chicken Marsala and it rivals the best in Houston. This place has gone through much over years, however, it has kept its amazing taste constant in all. My only complaint of many visits here are the somewhat long waiting times for your ticket after your meal. This restaurant is so nestled away in the shopping center it makes it feel like you're not eating near one of the business roads in Baton Rouge. I have been here three times and each time I have tried something new and I have never been disappointed. The restaurant is small, quiet and inviting. Even though it is small I have never had to wait for a table. It is the perfect place to have a first date or catch up with your girlfriends. The staff is pleasant. The ambience is relaxing.
