If you are looking for a reliable tailor please do not come to this shop. I ordered my wedding dress to size online and I expected there to be a few tiny alterations needed, so I took my dress here because of the great reviews. The owner explained that he could not give an estimate of costs because he didn't know how much work needed to be done--ok, that's fair. He also stated that he had to let my dress out a bit which was $80--also totally reasonable. I came in for my second fitting and after he let the dress out it fit perfect in the waist, but 1/4 inch needing to be taken in on each side next to the sleeve--I said go for it. Now, I understand that his work is by NO MEANS easy, and the tiny bit of beading on the top of the dress makes the work even more difficult/tedious. Let me tell you I almost had a heart attack when I went in for my last fitting. He said that due to the extensive work on the top of my dress (aka taking in 1/4 on each arm) the price had gone up to $400. Yup...$400. When I asked where that price came from he just kept saying it was hard work and that he didn't know how much it would be in the beginning. How about you tell someone alterations are going to be before you cut into their wedding dress 2 weeks away from the big day? Of course since I am not a horrible person I paid him the $80 for letting the dress out, bagged my dress up and vowed that I will never ever go back. I had to take my cut up dress to another tailor that luckily saved the day for $50 (after he said that this original tailor should be taken out of business for pressuring me to pay $400 for the minor alterations needed). I can honestly say that this is the first long review I have ever written for a business in my life. My main gripe is that he thought for sure I would pay up because he knew my big day is coming up. Took my dress in to get altered. He wanted to charge $85 to shorten two layers. After I walked out I quickly called another place right down the road for another quote, and they said it would be no more than $40. I went back in to grab my dress and the man was so rude. The rack of suits, pants, and skirts on the back wall and two fitting rooms immediately set him a notch. On a Saturday morning, the shop was lively and full of activity. Eddie took the pants I brought in to be lengthened, checking over the hems, and immediately demonstrating how long they could be lengthened on each pair. After all, three-quarters of an inch or inch-and-a-half mean less than a visual marker. Doubly for me; I'm used to the metric system, being a Canadian, so these small touches were much appreciated. He told me the work could be done in an hour or so, but I had chores to run and confirmed I would be back the following Monday. Lo and behold, I showed up and the pants were waiting for me with beautifully straight hems, finished expertly, looking good as new. I tried all of them on with different heel heights as soon as I got home, and reveled in the fact my 34.5" inseam has not managed to foil me again. Three pairs of pants came to a total of $38, a bargain considering the workmanship put in and the fact he could have them done over lunchtime if I wanted. Sewing machines hum in the industrious shop as customers pop in, leave their office attire and beloved clothes in his trustworthy hands, and flit out again. The shop is around the corner and down a few blocks from downtown Royal Oak, which is plenty of time to meander through the shops or hang out at a restaurant waiting for your work to be done. Went here to get a quote for lengthening the sleeves on my suit coat. FAST Eddie took apart my sleeve, measured the length and marked all over my sleeve with wax. Then he said "Oh it's gonna be $70 to lengthen these" I looked at him in disbelief, and said no thanks! Fast Eddie then put the sleeve back together, and I left. I get home only to notice there was wax all over my sleeve, and a button missing! WOULD not recommend this place.Fast Eddie does fast work, and is over priced. Needless to say I went to a different shop down the road and paid $25 for a GOOD job! read more

I am so thrilled to have found a good tailor so close by (literally around the corner)! I am not sure how long Eddie's has been in this location, but I guess I'm totally nonobservant because I just noticed a few weeks ago. I had been driving around with two items in my car that were in need of repair, so I finally stopped by Eddie's to drop them off. He was extremely friendly and told me that he could do the two repairs while I waited. While waiting for my repairs I noticed that the walls were covered with "best of" wins from several different years and from several different publications. I waited only a few minutes and was charged only $5. The repairs were not extremely challenging (one rip along a seam and one hole), but they were done very well, I can't even tell where the hole was. I use a tailor often since I'm short and often need my pants hemmed, so I am very glad to know that there is such a talented tailor right around the corner. I will definitely be a repeat customer! read more

Eddie, or "Fast Eddie" as he is sometimes called, is incredible. I walked in with 4 items, including: - A pair of jeans with a broken belt loop - A pair of shorts with missing buttons - A pair of bluejeans that needed to be hemmed (including maintaining the bottom hem style) - A pair of slacks that needed to be hemmed While I was in the change room putting on the pants to be shortened so that they could be measured, he fixed the broken belt loop. After a quick measurement, I was off, and the price for all 4 items just seemed too low. I left with one item in my hand, the other 3 to be picked up later. He asked me how soon I wanted them back, and I replied "take your time, I've been meaning to bring these items to you for months", and he said "Come back on Saturday". It was Wednesday. In my mind, this seemed too fast. Saturday rolled around, and just before I left the house, I found a track jacket that I've never been able to wear because the zipper has always been very difficult to deal with. So, I went back to pick up my 3 items and showed him the jacket, and asked him to replace the zipper. He replied "It's not worth it to replace the zipper, that's too expensive and time consuming, you may as well buy a new jacket". Honest man. Then, he looked at the zipper more closely, realized why it wasn't functioning, and ended up removing a piece of fabric that the zipper was catching on. The manufacturer of the track jacket had made a mistake, this fabric was too close to the zipper. He surgically removed this fabric from both sides of the inside of the zipper (on the inside of the jacket), while I was standing there, and ... voila! Fixed. You can't even tell that it was done. I don't understand how someone can work quickly, and also provide such good work. So, the main summary: 1. Expedient service 2. Excellent quality 3. Very affordable prices read more

Fellow Yelpers read the low star reviews. He is atrociously over the top priced. I get that this is Royal Oak but SODC (save our debit cards) a few nickels and coins or a slug (yeeesh). I took a pair of JCrew cotton and silk pants (from Sally's Boutique in RO) for a hem and waist adjustment ---$50. $15 for the hem and $35 for the waist. And he didn't have a price list to show for the charges. It was as if he made a price for me. I never picked up the thrift shop $4 pants. I just couldn't fathom the thought of paying $50 for alterations. I hope the owners are reading the reviews and recognize revenue loss. I'll keep thrifting until I find a pair that fits.....sigh. read more

Super fast Eddie? PFT! Try ULTRA fast Eddie! I have never had any alterations so when I found a nice pair of pants that was long, I stumped. I REALLY wanted to wear those pair of pants immediately. I can saw (it runs in the family) BUT I did not have a pair of sewing machines. A friend said she's have me borrow it but I guess she forgot and I did not want to push the issue. Enter Eddie's Alterations. I called first MAINLY because it was a Saturday and was getting late. Mr. Eddie himself answered the phone and said they are open until 6. I asked how much would he charged for "shortening" a pair of dress slacks and he told me a reasonable $12. When asked how long will it take, he said I can wait if I wanted to. Off I go. I came in just as he was finishing up with a customer and just basically showed me the changing room so I can wear the pants I have in my hand. When I got out of the changing room, the customer was already gone. He had me stand up in front of the full-length mirror, folded and marked the length the pants should be and asked me if it was the length I wanted it. It was so I changed back into my jeans and came out. He took the pants and altered it. I was in and out that place in less than 20 MINUTES! Service was great and the guy did a great job! He even ironed the pants before handing it back to me! I do not see myself coming back for any other alterations anytime soon but if and when I do, I WILL come back to Eddie's! This guys is some sort of fabric wizard. I was going to Chicago for a wedding with a day's notice and found out my suit jacket and pants were a bit snug. Took it here at 10am on Friday and prayed they could have it done by the time we left (3pm that same day!). I took it in, and the guy goes "Why's your suit so dirty?" "Crap. I didn't realize it was dirty too. I was just wondering if you could let them out and maybe have it done...today?" Yeah right, I told myself. "Come back at 12, so you still have time to get it dry-cleaned." What a lifesaver. Plus, to get both items let out and to have them done in under 2 hours was under $80 (cheaper than a new suit). I'm sure this guy doesn't do this all the time (maybe he does), but his skill and service will have me coming here for all my alteration needs. read more

Not exactly sure why there are so many good reviews for this place. I've used Eddie's a few times and will not return. My girlfriend and I brought in three pairs of jeans, two to get taken in (one pair I had priced a few months earlier but didn't want to spend the $45) and the other to get hemmed. He took the measurements very quickly, and then said $40 for hers, $50 for yours. I asked if he could do them for $45 since that's what he quoted me for the same job before and he challenged me on it saying it must have been coupled with other work. I said no it was just the pants. He begrudgingly said okay fine. I had a third pair of jeans with me and asked if he could hem them about an inch. He said okay, $30. I said $30 really? I said okay then just the two pants. I went down the street and had those same pants hemmed for $12. Also, while I was changing into my jeans for just a couple minutes he performed two of those $45 jobs that he tried to charge me $50 for. My jeans came out great, can't complain about that. My gf's were almost as if he didn't do any work to them and he had to take them in again. So 3 days later she got hers back and they turned out good. Last year my gf took a bridesmaid dress she needed to get altered in a time crunch and he charged her over $120. Not sure if that's a fair price or not but seemed exorbitant. I could be wrong on that. Also last year I took a jersey to him to get taken in and he charged me $35. I asked why it was so much because it seemed like an easy fix and he said you want it done right, ill do it right. Again could be the going rate, but seemed high and he wasn't very friendly to me. So in my multiple experiences there he's charged what I believe to be exorbitant prices, changed them on me, been rude to me, and done both good and shoddy work. Overall the work is sound if he doesnt wiz through and mess up the measuring. I just think he charges high prices and will readily take you to the cleaners. read more

I've been going to Eddie for over 15 years. I was first introduced to him for my wedding dress, which was a vintage dress that needed altering. Eddie and his wife did a fantastic job, matching fabric and making the dress perfect. Since then I've gone to Eddie any time I need anything altered. He does a fantastic job for a reasonable price. What I appreciate even more is that I've taken garments in for repair and Eddie has suggested I replace it rather than spend the money on repairs. I was told this guy was the best from a friend. I brought in a jacket at 1 oclock on saturday that had a rip in the shoulder area. He told me it would be ready at 5. I had nothing else to do in Royal Oak that day so I stopped by at 4:15, planning to just wait until 5. I walk in and take a sit without saying anything. Eddie sees me and grabs my jacket and walks it over to me completely finished! He even repaired a rip inside the jacket without me asking. I have come in with anything from simple seam rips to the more complicated tailoring jobs and he always does a top notch job. I couldn't recommend his services more. One example- this costume I ordered off of Ebay came and was super baggy- he practically remade the garment and it took him longer than the other jobs but considering the complexity- it was done so fast and so expertly- I couldn't have been happier. My one and only previous experience with tailoring was probably almost ten years ago. It was at a small shop in downtown Detroit that no longer exists, and the experience was less than satisfactory, but I dealt with it. Just like ten years ago, I recently found myself with a pea coat that fit me in the shoulders, but the sleeves were too long. I really wanted to get it tailored quickly, because winter is upon us, and I desperately needed a new winter coat. So I looked here on Yelp, saw that Eddie's was close to where I was that day, and headed over. Eddie seems to be Eastern European and has a bit of an accent (oddly, just like the last tailor I worked with). I had a hard time understanding him at first, but I do have bad hearing. He was a bit curt with me, but that may just be his way. I didn't take it as rudeness. He asked when I needed it done. I was there on a Saturday, so I said "Monday afternoon?" and he said it'll be done then. I headed there on Monday around noon, and the coat was done. The last time I had this done, the sleeves were cut too short. This time they're a bit too long. When he marked the sleeves the first day I was there, it was right. But, like before, I just wanted to get it done, and it isn't that bad. Overall, the service was quick and despite the sleeves being cut a little long, Eddie did a fine job, considering he had to do some "surgery" as he said. It was $42, which seemed like a bit much to me, but when I saw his work, I understood. It looks great, and it was done in less than 24 business hours. read more

Granted, only the pants needed adjusting and not the suit jacket, but he evaluated the fit and got me in and out in no time. Only charged me $15. Eddie performs textile miracles in miraculously short amounts of time. I literally just took two pair of jeans in to have the cuffs hemmed praying to have them back tomorrow for my job. Instead, he dropped everything he was doing and did them both in under 15 minutes. I swear the man is not of this world. In the past, Eddie has done everything from the most minor of alterations to full-on recuts of my suits. I've used him several times to take in some of my suits, but my most recent experience happened to be the best. Eddie took in my tuxedo for an event taking place that week. It wasn't taken in enough, but I could tell Eddie was swamped with other customers and decided it was good enough. The day of the event I was driving by his shop and thought I'd just ask if he could take it in a little more. It was 10:30 AM and the event started at 1pm. I asked Eddie if he could take it by Noon. I did not personally get service here, but I went to this establishment with my friend to get a full suit tailored. It appears to be just Eddie that is performing tasks in there, but he definitely knows what he's doing. I liked when he got super upset that my friend took his suit and pants to get tailored at a department store and that he was going to redo it for him the "right" way. It's funny how circumstances allow you to stumble onto secret gems. Eddie's is such a place. I was too lazy to drive to the other side of town where my tailor was so I stopped at a local shop and here is the rest... It was almost time for my daughter's 1st homecoming and her dress.. her dress.. HER DRESS had become a nuisance. It was quite beautiful but three layers of too big dress that Nordstrom said would cost me upwards of $100 - $150 to alter or cut in half (the dress was an 8 and she's a 4), Mr. Eddie ( I'm not sure if that's his name) quoted more than $50 less and turned it around in no time flat! I just picked up my bridesmaid dress it was done perfectly. Straps taken in, hem with train shortened and taken in a bit on the sides. Cost $150. It was really expensive but I didn't want to trust just anybody. Plus never had alterations before so there was no scale to measure. Good work! only negative is that it wasn't pressed but I'm traveling out of town so no point really. They were very nice and had really good customer service. Came in with two suits to be altered, and a purse strap to be fixed (no, the purse wasn't mine). One suit would have needed lots of alterations and Eddie was up front that the tailoring would cost more than a new suit, so that was skipped. The second one just needed a slight alteration to the pants. The pants and purse were done by the time I changed back into my street clothes. I had expected to wait a week or two, and instead it took no more than 15 minutes. I really appreciate that Eddie was upfront with me that the cost for my one alteration wasn't worth it, and the fact that he got me out of there with the rest done in hand. The pricing is also not consistent, sometimes I feel Eddie gives me quotes at random. Go here for complicated or important alterations (I got my wedding clothing altered here and don't regret it). I just had such a pleasant experience at Eddie's! I went in on a whim because I needed something done quickly and they are located near me. I had a dress with a minor hole on the seam that I didn't notice when I purchased it. The gentleman that greeted me (I assume this was Eddie himself) stopped what he was doing when I walked in, assessed the hole, fixed it in about 20 seconds and then wouldn't let me pay (he told me to have a wonderful day instead of charging me). I understand small businesses need to earn a buck but there is truly value in recognizing when it is ok not to charge a person, especially for something so simple. I have some things that need REAL alterations in the near future that will require more than 20 seconds of work and Eddie's just earned a customer. read more
