I'm leaving an updated review after recently returning to this office. I first came here about 9 years ago through a family recommendation, and Dr. Tennison and the team made a great impression right away. Back in 2017, the office had a very straightforward, no-frills approach that I really appreciated. Dr. Tennison explained everything clearly, gave me the facts, and never used sales tactics--just honest, direct care. In 2018, I moved away and later returned to the area, but my insurance at the time only allowed me to visit a few specific dental offices. Over the years, I tried several other places and had very different experiences. Many of those offices felt very sales-driven and often tried to recommend treatments or products that didn't feel necessary. I recently started a new job and was happy to find out my insurance is accepted here again. I couldn't wait to come back. The office is just as I remember it--professional, efficient, and focused on patient care rather than sales. Dr. Tennison and the staff are straightforward and honest. They cleaned my teeth, gave me a few helpful tips for maintaining my dental health, and that was it--no pressure, no upselling. If you're looking for a dental office with an honest dentist and a genuine team that focuses on quality care, this is the place. They're busy for a reason. read more

The office isn't as pretty as other modern dental offices. It's such an older vibe and very small. The lobby toys reminded me of my childhood but the staff most definitely make up for the lack of aesthetic. This dental office is ran differently and more straight to the point with no BSing. Not trying to do anything extra that will rack up your dental bill, you get what you needed done and that's it. It's what I need as many dentist will say I need this or that and it can be so infuriating! This dentist reminded me of my old dentist I used to see all through my childhood in Minnesota. He isn't very chatty and gets straight to the point. He checks fairly fast to make but they are very thorough on the x-rays (18!) and you can see most issues from the x-rays alone anyways. The assistant was so nice and was very attentive to my cleaning. It wasn't painful and after the cleaning I could really feel a difference. Anne, the wife was very friendly as well and allowed my children to explore since we ended a bit after their lunch break. Overall, yes it is severely outdated and small but they do the job well and not try to get you to do things you don't need for your teeth. So...my initial summation was woefully inaccurate. That tooth that could be saved... Got infected, ended up in the ER face swollen, CT scan, oral surgeon. When the pulpectomy was originally done all of the medicine leaked out for weeks. It was a waste of money, suffering, just to end up at an oral surgeon. Was advised that tooth was no way salvageable. NOT to mention Dr Tennison couldn't even get me numb during the procedure. 2 other teeth he filled that he said were salvageable. Root canals!! I went in with faith. Even though the status of the clinic was worrisome. Old, run down, dental chairs cracked, I really wanted to ask to see the instruments sterilization room... Anyway, not surprised it got infected and his answering service is his wife, he couldn't be bothered to come to the phone the day I called. I went to this clinic because I knew his daughter, she had great teeth, and they worked with you, when you had no insurance and paid cash. Waste of time and money. Boo read more

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Dr. Tennison and his office team. His lead dental assistant, Janice, is amazing, my daughter always looks forward to seeing her. All of the assistants are phenomenal. They always offer to schedule our family appointments around the same time/day for our convenience. They set us up on a very reasonable payment plan when our insurance wouldn't cover an orthodontic appliance for our daughter... and I am forever grateful. I cannot imagine taking my family to anyone else. read more

The ONLY reason I'm giving this a 1 star is because of the couple of staff members that are nice. Otherwise they'd get a negative 5. I brought my 12 year old daughter here for a filling today that fell out. I was looking for someone who had a friendly demeanor and patient with kids. I couldn't have picked a worse dentist. Our first visit they gave her X-rays, cleaning and check up and I thought they would repair the missing filling but didn't. Mr. Tennison came in after the cleaning to do the check up and not only never even looked at me but never introduced himself to me or my daughter. Didn't say two words to her the entire check up or visit. After the check up he confirmed her filling had fallen out by saying this to me "Yes she needs to get that taken care of before too long" and walked out of the room. That was the first time I became aware they weren't goi to fix it that day. They made a follow up apt instead. Second visit to fill the tooth came and we drove up and waited in our car as instructed (due to COVID). We waited a while. A woman finally came out and escorted us in, in a very rushing manner. No hello, no introduction. Very Drill Sgt like behavior. We were escorted to the back to a very small run down old room. I was told to sit in a specific chair that was gross and had stains all over it with an old cushion that was also stained. After prepping my daughter with NO warmness or even talk explaining the procedure she gave her the nitrogen mask and then called for the doctor. He came in and once again no introduction. He proceeded to take the numbing cotton swab out of my daughters mouth and put the mouth piece in, put her head back and started to give her the shot. She was nervous but was being brave which I was proud of her given the fact that he or the lady did NOTHING to assist in that area. She squeezed her hands closed and held her breath while he gave her several shots. The lady started being a little kinder and started to tell her to breathe through her nose. Dr. Tennison proceeded to talk to her very stern and because he was talking so fast she did not understand what he was saying. He was also telling her to breathe but he was flipping out on her. He told her "You need to breathe and your making my job harder not easier. You need to listen to me bcz I know what I'm doing and stop holding your breath." She didn't realize she was holding her breath. She wasn't doing it on purpose and thought he was telling her to breath through her mouth and not her nose and she was, but bcz he was talking so fast she had gotten that mixed up and should've been breathing through her nose and not mouth. Needless to say she's freakin 12 years old and nervous. She's not yelling, crying or even moving. She simply got confused on her breathing. He then stops and starts chewing her out and becomes even meaner and louder in his tone and says "you are holding your breath the whole damn time while you should be listening and trusting me." This coming from the man that never even took the time to introduce himself to her or say two kind words. I was so livid but I didn't want to go off on him as angry as I was and make things worse for my daughter let alone give him any reason to be rough with her since he still had to do the procedure. She had just gone through the hard part so I decided to let him finish the procedure and planned to let out my anger after he was done and out of her mouth. By then I think he had realized his behavior towards her and that I was so angry that he started back tracking and apologized to her by saying "I didn't mean to pick on you, I just want you to trust me and understand I know what I'm doing" I decided not to go off like a mad woman like I had wanted to and to continue to bite my tongue bcz right after he said that he quickly leftthe room and said nothing to me. There was no aftercare instructions given and nothing else said other than the assistant saying the numbness would ware off in three hours or so. It should go without saying that no one, let alone a child, should EVER be treated that way. These dentist these days are so complacent and have no patience or understanding that people get nervous being awake and having a stranger in their mouth with tools and needles and aren't supposed to breathe wrong without feeling like it is ok to chew them out. I'm still in shock at his lack of patience, kindness or just any care at all for his patient. He was a jerk and should NOT be in a business that requires interaction with others. He does NOT have the personality at all for it. read more

The office looks disgusting and not sanitary... nothing like their website!! I don't feel my children received the best care at this office! My kids each were in the back no longer than 10 minutes each that included xrays and a cleaning not to mention it was their FIRST visit! There is also a Mexican lady with long hair that told my son to "Shut up little boy" when he was trying to talk to her. I will never take my kids back there and I DO NOT recommend this office to anyone!!!! Rude and disgusting service! ..with one exception... the ladies at the front were kind, but that's about it! read more

Dr. Tennison writes of my "complaint" over one of my implant crowns -- there was a very noticeable gap between my crown and my gum. To be frank, it was very unaesthetic and I wouldn't be comfortable smiling in public. After I left his office, I went into my car and checked out my new crown in the mirror and noticed the gap. I returned to the office to speak to Dr. Tennison about this, when he told me there was nothing he could do. He mentioned some medical terms and then said that because of these reasons, there was nothing he could do about the gap. I returned home and after a quick Google search, I learned that this gap was definitely fixable. This was when my trust as a patient for Dr. Tennison was broken. To be deliberately misinformed about a mistake that he or his dental lab made, saying that there was nothing that they could do, was a betrayal to me as a patient. To make matters much worse, that same day, two crowns completely fell out. These are crowns that are supposed to last many, many years, if not a lifetime. And they fell out within the first day. When I went back to have these mistakes rectified, his office manager, who is also his wife, was very unprofessional. Instead of apologizing on behalf of the practice for these blatant mistakes, she says aloud, in front of every other patient in the waiting room, that she had given me a 10% discount for using cash only at the beginning of the process, and now she had to pay a credit card processing fee. To mention such matters defiantly in such a sensitive situation, especially before a waiting room full of patients, was unprofessional and uncalled for. Furthermore, it is not you that has to pay the credit card processing fee. That is coming out of the $10,000 that I already paid you. To mention that fee almost as a dig was low. Dr. Tennison's office also asked me to pay in advance. I don't know of any other medical practice that requires payments in advance. I didn't "complain" about these matters however, and after the last day of procedures, I did pay the balance in full, as requested to me, a full month in advance. After the procedure, I walked out of the office into the parking lot, when his wife points at me with her finger through the window, wags her finger at me (like a teacher to a student), and then motions for me to come back in the office. She then told me that I had to pay. I then reminded her that I had paid a month in advance, like they had asked. There was nothing told to me about additional fees or additional costs. So there was nothing she could say. Finally, the "thorough disinfection" and "CDC guidelines" he is writing about. Whenever something was dropped, which was often, when the said item WAS sterilized, he would tell his staff to do it and then walk outside to see another patient, as if he didn't want his time to be wasted. That is just not good patient care. When he decided to stay however, and still use whatever he dropped, he most definitely just rinsed it off and put it in my mouth. All in all, I'm very disappointed in Dr. Tennison and as I wrote earlier, my trust for him has been broken. I don't want to speak poorly on his staff whatsoever (except his office manager), because they are great, but Dr. Tennison and his wife/office manager did a horrendous job in both my care and my overall treatment as both a patient and an individual. read more

I had been having scheduling problems with my dentist's office, (partially my fault but also theirs) and the cost had been creeping up considerably. So I thought I would check out Eddie and his wife/office manager Ann who have been long term customers of mine. Got an appointment in 2 days at the most convenient possible time for my schedule. I got a text that morning re' my 1:00 PM appointment that their noon appointment had canceled and I was welcome to come in earlier. So I did just that and it fell into place nicely for me. Seems I was the last appointment of the day and they were were closing early so Eddie could fly to a seminar. I am happy to report that this did NOT result in the hygienist rushing things whatsoever. He seemed exceptionally thorough and the procedure had a very low level of discomfort. This despite the fact I had let my gum condition slide and the cleaning was overdue. I told Ann that at age 69 dental x-rays have never removed plaque from my gums, I don't get cavities, and x-rays have never resulted in a reason to do anything different regards my dental care program so I would like to pass. Instead of fear tactics and hard sell she said "Fine, you can just sign a waiver." This is refreshing to me. Instead of the "You may need major oral surgery" fear tactics I have heard for 40-50 years, Eddie's evaluation was I just need to stay on regular maintenance. The cost of the visit even with a surcharge for "a new patient examination" was considerably LESS than I had been paying for my cleanings elsewhere, so the next visit will be even more reasonable. I had a nice visit with Ann and Eddie and then let them get on to the airport. They thanked me effusively for coming all the way from Oak Hill to Round Rock which I was more than happy to do -- especially because on the way there I stopped for a 20 mile group bike ride in Pflugerville. After reading the complaint from Charles P. I feel confident that he is not telling the whole story. I suspect that he is someone I would also have asked to prepay before we did business. read more

From the initial appointment set up to checking out after our visit, Dr. Tennison's office was extremely welcoming and caring. I brought my 8 month old daughter in to have her two, brand new teeth checked out and to just make sure everything was moving along as it should (mandible, pallate structure, etc.). Dr. Tennison and his assistant were so kind and gentle, my daughter never made a peep. I will definitely continue to bring her here as long as we are in the Austin area. read more

I was unexpectedly called into work on the day of my appointment and was unable to attend. I promptly called to reschedule within a couple hours of the missed appointment and spoke to a pissed off receptionist who offered me several appointments, none of which I could make due to my busy schedule. She became increasingly annoyed every time I said I couldn't make one, and told me the soonest space they had open was over a month away, which I said was fine with me, as it was just for a routine cleaning. After verifying the appointment, she then asked me for the second time why I had missed the original one, which seemed a little rude to ask even once, but I explained again at great lengths what had happened, and again apologized profusely. She then proceeds to tell me in a condescending and even angry tone that the hygienists that work here are paid off commission and the appointment I've missed has wasted the their time and cost the hygienist money. She begins laughing as i apologize AGAIN and explain for a third time that I'd been called into work, so I didn't have much of an option as I have to make money as well, but that I hope my rescheduling will make up for it in the end. She says that it will not, and goes even further to ask whether or not I will even come to the new appointment. At this point I cancelled and explained that i have many choices of dentists offices in austin and will gladly be choosing another for the cleaning. Why this woman was personally offended by one first-time client missing one appointment is beyond me. It may be a fine office but if you expect to be treated like a paying customer consider other options. read more

I have been going to Dr. Tennison for about a year now and have nothing but good things to say. I have had a few different procedures done from removing my wisdom teeth to fillings and now I am 3 months in to having braces. The quality of work is top-notch and the price unbeatable. Dr. Tennison and his staff do a good job of making the process very transparent and keep you informed so there are no surprises. It is a little far north(I live in South Austin) but the drive is well worth it if you want quality dentistry done at a very fair price. read more

Can not believe a man like this is still in business. I take my children in for some dental work and when I asked if I could go back with them they tell me no. My oldest at the time was only 6 or 7. I make follow up appts. and we leave. While walking out I noticed my daughter had tears rolling down her face. When I asked if she was ok she said yes let's leave this place. All the while I'm thinking it was just because of the work that had been done. It came time for the follow up appt. and she starts crying saying she doesn't want to go please don't make me go back. She was begging and pleading not to make her and once again I'm thinking just because of the work that was done, BOY WAS I WRONG!! Finally, when she was a little more calm she proceeds to tell me that the last time she was in there the doctor slapped her in the face and told her big girls don't cry. I immediately got on the phone with the dentist and explain what my daughter told me. He then told me that he can't have them back here screaming while he's trying to give them a shot and for her to cry at the age she was, was not right. He then told me that he thinks it would be best to find another dentist. REALLY? This dentist is worthless!! He doesn't even deserve part of a star highlighted! read more

Today was my children's first visit with this office. I will NEVER go back nor recommend anyone to this Dentist Office!!! First I was told that my child needed an extraction and the insurance would not cover it so they wanted the fee up front, I just got off the phone with my insurance company and was told that it is covered!!! WTHECK!! Next my oldest tell me the hygienist or Dr one of them dropped the F bomb in front of him...then my daughter told me the same man called my youngest a Smart A&@!!!! What kind of professional does this!?! Children are taught to trust the dentist and these people break that trust!!! So disappointed in the level of professionalism. read more

Dr. Tennison has taken care of my family's dental needs for over 20 years. My wife and I have had fillings, crowns and root canals done by him. My children have had preventative care, sealants on their molars and my son had braces which saved his smile from ruin. I'm 62, and have been to many dentists in my life (my hometown didn't add flouride to the drinking water). Dr. Tennison provides consistently great work at fair prices. He is the most "painless" dentist that I have been to. His office staff is friendly and accommodating. My philosophy is: when you find the best, forget about the rest. One more thing, Dr. Tennison, unlike some dentists around here, never tries to talk you into work that you don't really need. I can always trust that he will give me the straight talk about my teeth...my options are laid out clearly but the choice is always mine...no pressure. I live a bit west of Austin, but I don't mind driving to Round Rock to get quality dental care from people I trust. read more
