Once you finish you can't even sit down and buckle up before they yell at you to leave. They rightfully want you to wear a safety vest yet contradict themselves when you can't buckle up to drive. Makes no sense. read more

I tried for three weeks to start trash service at my house and was met with nothing but incompetence. They failed to deliver me trash cans. They admitted it was their mistake but had no process in place to rectify the situation. I was repeatedly told that I had to wait until next week for trash cans. I even asked if I could pick up the trash cans myself at one of their facilities and was told that was impossible as well. read more

I always recycle my cans here. They are so helpful. It's very convenient. My husband likes it because he can recycle batteries and small appliances. They even have free mulch in April. We took our truck here and filled it up with mulch. Great resource! read more

Didn't to get rid a 2 wood pallets. Called Edco offering to drop them off. They said I could but it would costs me $90.00!!! I said they could pick them up as bulk items and they said they don't pick up wood, only appliances. WTF am I paying trash pickup for. read more

The trash pick up service is very reliable. Aside from that weekly service, we have rented a large metal roll off dumpster able to hold over ten tons of debris. They dropped the large bin in my driveway and we had a handful of days to load up our cement and broken cinderblocks. They came and picked everything up and dumped for us. The 5 stars are about Edco accepting large bulk styrofoam blocks, such as what comes in molded blocks to protect TVs, furniture. I called all over and no one but Edco had dedicated bins to accept styrofoam blocks. But I had 11 big trash bags full, and I wanna KNOW that all those blocks won't get lost in a huge pile of everything else that is in the City of San Diego recycle pickup, tho the bins at Edco are not dedicated solely for styrofoam only. Als includes cardboard in the same bin. I drove from La Jolla all the way to La Mesa when I had to go to La Mesa Kaiser, to deposit some of my bags of styrofoam. I can only fit so much huge bags in my little Corolla. I have at least one other trip to make. I am a very consciencious recycler and respector of the earth, member of Sierra Club. It would put a dent in my soul's well-being, to knowingly put such a large amount of block styrofoam in the earth to leach and disintigrate and litter all those little white balls. Styrofoam smells strongly of chemicals and it very flammable too. There is no good use to put it to. I will be making a second trip this Saturday before they close at 4 pm. read more

I do spring cleaning around my home every few months or so and always end up with so much stuff my regular trash can just won't suffice. I started going to the Edco in La Mesa for the first time back in January. At first I was a bit intimidated because I have never been to the dump before and didn't know how the whole process worked. I asked the weigh master what was the proper etiquette there and he was very helpful. Also they are quite affordable as it only cost me 58 dollars since my load was under a certain weight. We had a few broken tvs, a laptop, and printer just sitting around and we needed to dispose of them. I came alone and they were super polite and helped lift the tvs for me which I really appreciated. I wish I had gotten the gentleman's name that helped me because even though he works at a electronics disposal center he provides excellent customer service and is friendly. Peee-yoooo! Yes, it stinks. But otherwise it is a very well run, easy to navigate recycling center. You park, unload your bottles and cans in tall baskets, glass and other in smaller blue bins, roll them into the warehouse, have the guy weigh them, he disappears into a locked office, comes back out a minute later with cash in hand and a receipt for you to sign, hands you the cash and a copy of the receipt itemizing your bootie and take, and out you go. They forgot to order our delivery service for a dumpster, that we scheduled it on Tuesday for Thursday, which is when told it would was be delivered. Contacted them on Friday, to see why it was not done and they said we forgot and we can't get it there on Friday either. Said they would deliver on Saturday. EDCO is superior to Waste Management by faaaaar. They have changed throughout the years like all companies must to keep up. But, you can basically depend on them not to give you guff like Waste Management personnel. All people really expect is basic service with no extra mouthing off. The people who originated this company were superior as individuals. We exchanged affability in the past. This place is just alright, it gets super busy on the weekends though. I've come here for both dropping off some recycling and dumping large item trash. Mainly for recycling because it's the closet one for me to visit and it's a lot faster than Santee one. Their hours suck though because they close super early at 430 pm. They are open Saturday which is nice, but in the who hell wants to visit a dump on their day off? I try to restrict my work activities to during the week. One positive note is that their recycling guys are super quick about processing through people, there can be a large line of people and they get through them fast. The provided trash cans make dividing up your plastic, glass and aluminum easy and painless. As far as their rates go, I don't really pay attention to them, I just want my damn CRV back that they steal from me at the store when I buy stuff. I've asked them before about dropping off scrap aluminum, copper etc and they told me they don't do that, so I go elsewhere for that. read more

This place stinks!!!!! Be careful being inside for a while, it gets dusty. Your clothes will be nasty after you leave. Overall, this place has quick service. They have lots of bins so you can sort and get your bottles, cans, and plastic weighed. In no time, you'll get paid. EDCO is awesome! I think I had Stockholm Syndrome with the City of San Diego going to that dump literally Miramar Landfill, what a joke that place is. Miramar is filthy, it smells, you're outside your, truck gets filthy it's vile, disgusting. The workers at Miramar, from the gate people all the way through our disrespectful, rude and nasty and why not, they work for the city. Then I found this place. EDCO is everything Miramar isn't. The staff are friendly, it's a civilized experience, your truck is on concrete the entire time, you pull into a covered warehouse to unload. I think the rates are actually lower than Miramar. Once you get your tare weight, you only go through one time. Clean Concrete is 1/2 the price... I've read dings about them closing early afternoon. I too thought it was arbitrary; POW we are out... Its the City of La Mesa behind these closing, once they hit their tonnage for the day, which is set by the city, they have to close for the day. Blame the City of La Mesa, not EDCO, not their fault. More governmental interference and this insatiable need to control everything, kind of like those nasties at the gate at Miramar, you know what I'm talking about. read more

Says its open 7 days a week. Loaded car with cardboard boxes and drove over on Sunday. Get there and that part is not open on Sunday. To drop off then would have been $58. Edco recently bought daily dispisal. They showed up 3 hours early so my dumpster was not full. Then they charged $70 to pick up trash once i filled rhe dumpster. I was on hold forever (Daily always picked up immediately). Extra pickup necessary due to changed schedule was $70 (Daily was always $35). I was informed when i called they will be raising the rates too. So far, nothing good to say. Only a decline in service and doubling in prices. read more

It's a recycling center. They process a lot of trash here too, so yes it does smell. I'm not sure what people expect? It seems kind of silly to complain about. My son doesn't get an allowance for helping around the house. It seems like the wrong lesson to teach kids, paying them to do work they should be doing anyway as a part of the household. He makes money by recycling bottles and cans. He gets them from family members and friends. No one can resist a little cutie. He's bought himself an iPad, iPod, Xbox, Wii, ect. He comes to the recycling centers when he has a car full of recyclables. He sorts them out and gets them weighed. Sometimes I take him, or often my mom will. He usually makes between $15 to $25. He figured out one year by keeping a log of how much money he made that year that he had earned over $600 recycling. A lot of people will say it's not worth the time, and I can see the point, but it's easy work for a kid and well worth it. My opinion is as long as you ARE recycling, it doesn't matter if you're getting paid or not. The EDCO center is open until 4:30 Monday through Saturday. They're not open on Sundays. There is plenty of parking. I have no idea if they have bathrooms, I've never wanted to explore the building. Service is always friendly. You just take your bins up to the scale, they come out, weigh them, look you up in the computer and pay you. It's that simple. I should mention that the entrance is one way as is the exit, which is fairly obvious as it's in the business loop, but I've still seen people go the wrong way, presumably on accident. read more

The last few weeks I have started stealing people's cans and plastics from work. Ok, not steal, but basically tell them 'Hey these cans have been sitting here awhile so I am going to take them'. I asked one of the resident recyclers on my work floor where she recommended near La Mesa. She let me know about Edco. I don't really like recycling places much. Sometimes it seems like a hassle for not so much dough, but since most of this stuff isn't even mine it was a bonus. I get there right when it opens at 8:30am. It's a nice looking place. Good parking, clean looking bulding ( as clean as it can be for old trash) and people are nice. I have been in and out of there on two occasions in less than a few minutes. My most recent trip today, there were two house challenged gents in front of me but it still went quick. I made $10.50. Glass doesn't fetch much, but you can get $1.57 per pound for aluminum and $1.00 a lb for plastics. It's not the highest I have seen but for me I can't beat the easy location. It makes up for it. Also the sign says closed even at 8:30am (when it is open), but just open the door, they are there and yes it smells. It is a place where trash is dumped. Who knew? Not sure why someone said there clothes got nasty..Did you roll in it? My clothes smell as clean as when I left the place. My kids didn't appreciate the stink of the place, but giving them some loose change from the sale changed their minds. read more

I called the main office at around 2:30pm on Thursday and the guy said that the la Mesa recycling center closed at 4:30pm, I headed that way and when I got there, there was a group of guys at the entrance and they flagged me down to tell they were closed at 1pm for the last two years even though their website says 4:30, I was so mad I had driven 15 miles during heavy traffic read more

The La Mesa location is hard to find at first...many one way streets. Workers had us enter through the one-way exit, instead of the entry because there was a long line of garbage trucks in it. Once we got to the parking lot, we couldn't park because it was full. There was a long line of people waiting to return their cans and bottles. Ultimately, we just gave our bottles away to someone in line. It would not have been worth the lousy $10 buck we would have gotten back. It makes me sick that grocery stores are forced to charge CRVs, but they are not responsible for providing deposit returns. We need more recycle centers that are convenient to local neighborhoods. read more

Went here to dump a couch that I needed to get rid of that no one wanted for free. When we pulled up they initially wanted $47 for the couch to be disposed! A little absurd but after talking to the guys they agreed to do it for a different furniture fee since the couch was very very small and we didn't have anything else we were getting rid of. We pulled into the building dumped it out of my SUV and were on our way. The workers were polite, and when we needed help getting the couch out of the car they ran to my mom and I's assistance. If you need to dispose of something do it the right way and come to Edco. read more

This location is trickier to get to the first time going. Once you can find the red EDCO sign before the drive way you are golden. EDCO has wonderful staff. And they now work with schools and local organizations accepting donations for their various causes :) read more

Always courteous staff, always fair with CRV money, and the location feels very safe. They even take the time to help me get out via an opposite exit because I have a smart car that is a little lower to the ground and can't handle those rumble bars they set up at the exit. It is expensive and there is this kinda shady feeling you get at the gate! The guy at the gate said he needed a $100 deposit on my mini-van load?!? $50 minimum and then if I was over 800 lbs. it would be more "maybe $100 he said?!?" That seemed really odd to me... so I left. I drove to Miramar Landfill - it was $33. I spent the money I saved on a really good lunch at a Korean restaurant on Convoy!
