I used to have good luck using the ecoATM to turn in old electronic devices. Of course it is preferred that I get cash... even if it's a small amount but sometimes I have had devices that are too old and a simple matter of recycling can be utilized. After a few relatively good experiences with this type of ATM I ran into all sorts of problems in order to get a transaction completed. One hiccup it kept having was acknowledging my ID. And then after that hurdle was crossed then the machine had problems detecting just what kind of device I was trying to have assessed for cash value. eco atm = TOTAL WASTE OF TIME & EFFORT Over the last 5 years, I have TRIED to use ECO ATM 8-10 times, EVERY SINGLE TIME the machine screwed up. It couldn't read/identify my unlocked old phone(that was NOT a dinosaur or broken or cracked or damaged AT ALL) it couldn't read/scan my Driver License, the plug didn't work, it offered a far lower amount than the online estimate for NO REASON. Today was the worst. 1st, I had an offer for $130, I took the code to the location the website said was near me & available. I get there & it has a message on the screen to the effect of out of order & gave the nearest working locations. I go to the nearest one, big surprise - it can't identify my phone, then it can't connect, it rotates a new connector, it can't connect to my old phone??? it asks to scan it unconnected, it identifies my phone as 128 vs the 512GB I KNOW IT IS. it offers 54% of the online offer because it says the phone is 128GB when in fact I KNOW IT IS 512GB, These machines SUCK, I have every time ended up doing the online/mail in with sellcell or the like, & EVERY TIME I did that, I got exactly what the online offer was, although I had to wait a few days for the check(my preferred pay method) to arrive. Summary: eco atm-100% PROBLEMS & ERRORS of 8to10 tries, Online Send In phone - 100% GREAT. eco atm sucks don't waste your time. Noticed they had a promotion that had a little bonus for iPad trade ins via Gazelle which is owned by ecoATM. Filled out the paperwork, got a good quote and they promptly got me the shipping box and label for sending in the item. So far - pretty good. I'm pretty careful about documenting this kind of thing and took photos and a video of the iPad being placed. in the box and getting taped up for return shipment. Took a while for them to acknowledge the receipt but it came though albeit with a big surprise. Instead of roughly $130 the offer was a slap in the face offer of $40 for supposed scratches. I am meticulous about caring for my electronics - covers/cases always used etc. and this iPad is flawless from screen to case back. I wrote asking them to document the scratches. Crickets. Following that to their credit they did return the item upon my request. I would not recommend doing business with them. read more

They took my $1200 galaxy s24 ultra and refuse to pay me for it saying they got a bad paypal email. I double checked and i have 3 emails including the yahoo email i gave them linked to my paypal. The paypal agent said ecoatm was lying as the transaction id they gave me was bogus and thst paypal only uses 17 character transaction ids. Now they say tgey gotta escalate it to finance and im out a phone. Sell your phone privately and avoid these scammers who lie about paying you. read more

If I could give less stars, I would. The two ATMs closest to my home are not working. I drove a bit farther and tried a first ATM and it woud not connect to the phone, it insisted it was changing cables, but it seems it never did. I called the service number and they explained that the cable was broken and there was nothing they could do. I gave them a second shot and the second ATM I tried lost connection with the phone and a couple of times said it was connected when it was far from the cable. I called the service number and the service rep. demanded yes or no responses. Then they went silent for about five minutes until I asked to speak to a supervisor. The supervisor checked the ATM and said this second one was working fine. She said there was nothing they could do for me and that I should simply wait on them and call to see when these ATMs were working. I told her I was already quite peeved and the time and energy I spent on trying to sell my phone to them. She said there was nothing they could do. I'd be very wary of dealing with them. Their ATMs seem to be constantly malfunctioning or out of order and their customer service is quite lacking. They offer a decent purchse price for your device but it seems they make you really work for it. I'm done with them. There are other, better options. read more

I have been working in and around technology for the last 10 years. I have recycled 2 phones here (I knew they were older phones and not worth any money, but I still wanted the experience of using these machines). These Eco ATM machines are about the size of an arcade cabinet. They have a touch screen that is about chest height on a typical adult, and beloe that a metal door that opens (makes me think of a security drop door). Inside the door is a glass shelf where the customer would place their phone or device (the item they want to sell). A robotic voice and mascot greets you on that screen and walks you through the process. I was not expecting a payout, but even if you wanted half a minute to ponder selling that "old phone you forget you even had" I would say it takes about 3 minutes per transaction. The only flaw I saw in this machine is that it is TOO user friendly, it would be easy for someone to just rapid fire the next button without reading and throw their phone into the machine as soon as it opened. I bet many people throw their phones in and bang the machine when the door does not open. Another warning is the verbage this machine uses. If your phone is worth $0, it will say "your phone has no market value, but you can recycle it" or some such. User be warned, no market value means your phone is only worth scraping, not the $5 you were hoping to get. If you cleaned your garage and stumbled across some random old cell phones or devices and you would rather recycle them then throwing them in the trash, then I say use this, the ECO ATM may even throw a few bucks your way. I would not drive to an ECO ATM machine with the hopes that your old electronics are going to pay for your dinner. read more

I'm homeless. Went to sell my iPhone at Christmas for money for the holiday. It closed on my phone in the middle of it. I called and they said they'd look into it. I called them the next day and they said I needed to provide the iemi number. Found it called them back.they said they would send it out in 3 days third day I called and was on hold for an hour afterthe worker exclaimed oh that one. Was then told they couldn't send the check to the original address. I found an alternate address and was told 3 more days. After Christmas now!! No money!! No phone!! Called them and was on hold for about 3 hours now. Finally had a worker tell me it hasn't been sent out yet three more days!! It's been almost 3 weeks now. Won't let me speak to a manager!! I've used EcoATM at this location once and at the Parkway Plaza kiosk twice. It's the easiest and best way to get some quick, REAL cash in your pocket. It gave me $40 for an old BROKEN iPhone 4 that was just rusting out in my dresser drawer. I honestly don't know how they make any money. Oh, well. The GM location kiosk can even scan your phone to see if it functions or not with a broken dark screen; however, it needs Wifi to do this and the Mall's Wifi wasn't strong enough to enable that feature. Incidentally, I've worked as an independent contractor at Eco's Sorrento Valley HQ several times. Their staff is A1 and always inviting me to eat and drink for free in their well-stocked break room. read more

Do not believe Gazelle, if it says "Unlocked". They don't do enough research and can sell locked phones. Takes hours to resolve.

"This company buys stolen phones." This company encourages thieves to steal hard working honest people cell phones! My Iphone was stolen and I immediately locked/disabled the phone and reported it stolen. The next day the Thief turned on the iphone and find my iphone tracked the iphone to a EcoATM. I call the number on the ATM machine and informed customer service that my iphone was stolen and tracked to their AMT machine. I questioned them, you buy locked/disabled phones? He stated yes, as long as the phone turns on we will buy. Wow, so you buy stolen phones because if the phone is locked/disabled it's obvious it's disable for a reason. I was informed that the phone was going to be shipped to their warehouse and once the IMEI number was verified I would be notified by email and it could up to 4 to 6 weeks. It took up to 6 weeks for me to be notified by email confirming they had my iphone. I was emailed forms to complete and had to go to the police dept have an Officer complete a form releasing my iphone to me. This is ridiculous once they verified the IMEI number, they should've ship my iphone back to me, It's my property! This company chooses to buy stolen phones and expected you to jump through hoops to get your phone back, this type of company should not be in business! read more

In late September of 2017, I accepted Gazelle's offer to pay me $200 for my iPhone 6s. I sent the phone to them and it was received in its Kentucky processing center on October 3, 2017. I also received an email from them advising that the phone had been received and they would exam it. After a week, I emailed Gazelle and received a response that they would locate the phone and "accelerate" the inspection and payment process. After another week I called Gazelle at their headquarters in California. I was advised that when the phones were received by Gazelle they were placed in a large pile and when they get to it, they will get to it. I asked them to either send me my $200 or my phone. I heard nothing. After another week, I called again and spoke to a supervisor who advised me that he would get the "warehouse" to locate my phone and I would receive an email within 48 hours confirming that my check or my phone was being sent to me. I heard nothing. Three days later, I called again and was advised that my transaction was being accelerated. I demanded that they either return my phone or send me a check. I have heard nothing. Gazelle has had my phone for 30 days and has either lost it or is intentionally delaying my payment. Their representatives have consistently and intentionally lied to me and misled me. When I advised them that my next step was to complain to California Consumer Affairs, I was advised that they had a large legal department and could handle it without a problem. read more
