We had an excellent experience with Ecorattic! No one likes to find rats in their attic, but this company made us feel better as soon as they came to asses the job and explain the process. They were very transparent about every step and the cost breakdown. Along with the rats, they found old asbestos pipes and were able to include the removal through a separate service for us, so everything would be done at the same time. Our house is almost 100 years old, and we bought it as is 10 years ago... who knows how old that insulation was? (so gross) We had a big commercial company come and quote us before contacting Ecorattic, and they gave us an ASTRONOMICAL number. I mean like 10k more than Eco. We could tell we were being ripped off and that led us to looking for a smaller family-owned company, truly dedicated to this specific service. We are so glad we hired Eco for the job. The 2 days of service required, everyone was polite and professional. Easy-breezy. I have a small 734sf house and moved in last May; I hired Ecorattic to rodent-proof so I could put in AC. There was some evidence of rodent activity in the kitchen. I paid $5100 for removal of insulation and rodent-proofing. Later, the guys who did the insulation in the same attic ($2100) were surprised (i.e. they laughed) to hear that it was $5100 to remove insulation, clean the crawl space and put the screens on. So Ecorattic def got the job done (no activity since then), and were very nice. But it was very expensive. read more

I had a rat or two in my attic and crawlspace. My home is old and there were several places they could use to come in and out of the house. I got several quotes but ultimately went with Ecorattic and I am glad I did. They came in a bit higher but they did the job right. They were engaged to remove all the old insulation that had deteriorated, decontaminate and clean up the attic, seal it up so rats could no longer get in, and add new insulation. They worked quickly and efficiently and they were very professional. One rat did manage to hide from them and he was sealed in the wall. Eventually he found a way out but started coming into the living spaces of the house. I don't blame them for this, there are a million places for a rat to hide in these old houses that humans can't get to. The reason they get 5 stars is because when I called them, they sent someone out that same day to work on it and he did a great job getting the last rat out and making sure he was out for good. The quality of the work was fantastic and when they had to come back they did so in a timely fashion. I don't mind paying a premium for high quality work and they are worth every penny. He was very knowledgeable and explained the whole process and exactly what they were going to do in the attic and under the house as well. I hired Ecorattic after another rat service failed me (had two dead rats that caused flies, stench, and chewed through my thermostat - yet the other company didn't find anything!). I was very impressed with Jerry and his crew. No one wants to have their home disrupted, but these guys contained the dirt by putting plastic to around the house and floors (much cleaner than my plumber). They sucked out all the old insulation (I had the blown kind) and replaced it with new insulation (you get a rebate from the Gas Co. - which Jerry was the only one who told me about the rebate and I interviewed 3 other companies). I thought I was going to have to hire a cleaning crew, but Jerry's guys cleaned everything very nicely. Yes, there's dust, but nothing overwhelming. We had a rat infestation in our attic and skunk(s) living in our crawl space. There hasn't been a thorough cleaning of these spaces since we moved in decades ago. It was a very big mess in both spaces. The quote for the work was much more than we expected, but once we saw how much work was done, we were satisfied. The crew led by Oscar spent 7-8 hours cleaning. Another crew came back 5 days later to install insulation. Two weeks ago, we started smelling a foul odor. The rat traps in the attic were tripped and we found rat feces on top of the new insulation. I called Ecorattic and they sent Oscar plus one worker today. They patched up a little hole (chewed by the rat), found the dead rat and cleaned the attic again (at no extra charge). I highly recommend this company for several reasons. Be VERY careful with these crooks. We called them to give us an estimate for something that didn't have anything to do with insulating the entire house and they said they would do it but that they had to remove the insulation, clean everything up and then put back insulation. They quoted $7000. These guys seem to take advantage of the elderly specially by insisting to redo the entire home insulation. They just want your money. Not sure this company knows the meaning of the words "customer service." I haven't used their actual services, to be fair, because they were so disorganized and couldn't keep an appointment time and when I called to cancel, I was put on hold for 5 minutes and then the woman who picked up was just rude and didn't listen to me when I said I couldn't wait any longer and kept trying to tell me the technician was 10 minutes away. What part of "I can't wait any longer" did she not get exactly? THE FULL STORY: Last week I called to set the appointment based on some research on local insulation companies. I was told they would arrive between 9am-11am on Tuesday, July 5th. Yesterday, a holiday, I received a phone call from a tech named "Jerry" whose phone number did not show up on my cell display. He explained that he could not make the original scheduled time and asked if I could do between 10am-11am. I said that worked great but I had a hard out at 11:30am and asked if he would be finished assessing my attic insulation needs by then. He said "Yes, no problem." I locked my dogs away and was ready for him to arrive by 10am. By 11:10am he had still not shown up. At 11:13am, I called the main number, listened to hold music for 5 minutes until a woman picked up. I explained that I could not wait any longer. She kept saying "but the tech is 10 minutes away." I told her I had another appointment and COULD NOT WAIT. She said "Well, he said he would be there between 10-12pm so he's on time." No, Ma'am -- that is not what he said when he called me yesterday. He said "between 10-11am". She responded "he's on his way." I said AGAIN that I couldn't wait for him, and she asked if I wanted to reschedule. Um, that's a hard NO. I explained that I would take my business elsewhere because if a company can't even show up for the first appointment on time, why would I take a chance on hiring them? She was still blathering on about the tech being 10 minutes away when I ultimately just hung up the phone. Not more than 60 seconds later I received a call from someone named Edwin who identified himself as one of the owners who was calling to apologize on behalf of the company, said he was running late and was just exiting the freeway to my house. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? While I appreciate the "apology," it's like none of these people HEARD ME when I said I could not wait any longer. I explained I didn't like his receptionist doing that, nor him, and I have a busy schedule and can't wait for him and I don't want to reschedule and hung up. Excellent experience & service - USE THESE GUYS! Had our roof replaced and the day it was completed there was a strong odor in the house from all the debris and toxic materials that fell into the attic during the demo (plywood needed to replaced so attic was exposed). The smell and air quality was causing all sorts of allergy related issues for our 9 month old so we needed it remedied ASAP. We were referred through a friend and they did not disappoint! They found space in their schedule a day after I called and knocked the whole, nasty job out in 1 day! We had the attic vacuumed and sanitized, new insulation laid and all air ducts cleaned. I heard what I thought was a noise in the attic one day, which prompted to finally do what I should have done as soon as we moved into the house: seal every little space up that a rodent or bird could get into. These guys had a great quote. Two of them worked a long hard day in my attic and around the outside of the house and in the crawl space, finding everywhere something could get in. We contact Ecorattic and they removed all the insulation, animal "stuff", cleaned and replaced everything with new thick insulation.
