I was at UMass and needed a place to stay. This is only a few minutes away and the price was right. Parking in plentiful. I walked in and was greeted warmly and was promptly given my room. My room was basic, but clean and very comfortable. The shower was warm and the pressure was good. The heat/AC worked well and was a bit nosy but not at all like other places I have stayed. My room's location was almost a guarantee to be loud. Right across from the ice machine and the first room from the pool. However, with the exception of one little girl who didn't want to leave the pool and had a lovely set of lungs, there was no noise. It was a peaceful night's sleep. The free breakfast in the morning was a huge disappointment. Coffee was there, cereal, oatmeal packets, and some pastry that I noticed was there the night before. I grabbed an apple and was grateful for the muffins back at UMass. My next trip to Amherst I will definitely check here first. read more

My grandparents room smelled so heavily of smoke that it was nauseating. If I had been staying there I would have demanded a room change. I will not be returning. The hubby booked this place on Expedia and they were not thrilled about it. The desk person sent us to our first room and it had one king size bed ... for 5 people. Ah, hello - I realize two of them were kids but seriously lady?? My husband went back with his confirmation and they claimed that Expedia sent them a request for that room and he showed them his confirmation that showed 2 beds. They sent us to our next room - it did have two beds but smelled of cigarette smoke. Clearly, this was a smoking room at one point and it still smelled like it. I hated to be a pain, but when we tried to change it (one of my kids has asthma) they claimed they had no other rooms. This was another BS move on their part because when we came back from our evening activities at 11:30 pm., we got a parking space right by the entrance and there was maybe 5 other cars. The "breakfast" was lamer than lame, but the only good thing about this place is it is nestled between the two malls and Panera was right behind it. So the money we "saved" staying here and not somewhere else was not worth it. read more

Fairly standard Econo Lodge. They seem to have taken some of the previous bad reviews to heart. The room was clean, the only maintenance issue I noticed was a slight drip in the tub faucet, and there were bottles of shampoo. The staff were all nice, courteous, and helpful. We did not have any booking issues, nor any problems we needed to complain about. Since we didn't have any trouble, I don't know how they would handle a hard problem, but I'm happy. The continental breakfast was a continental breakfast- lots of wheat, but they offered a lot of different styles of wheat. So if you can eat wheat, you'll probably find something nice. I saw a yummy-looking donut in amongst the temptations. read more

This is a simple, clean, and very affordable option when you are in the five college area for a night or two. I stayed here around New Year's Eve and it was not very full. Zach, at the desk, asked which floor we wanted to be on and I said whatever is the quietest. We got a room on the third floor and it was quiet. My only gripe is that the coffee and bagels or whatever they call "breakfast" ends at 10:00 am sharp. There is a sign by the cafe area stating this, but the check in guy never told us. I'm all about free anything--- even if it's crappy. We checked out around 10:30 am and missed the food so that was too bad. The best part about this motel is location. It's half way between downtown Northampton and Amherst. We had breakfast at Whole Foods and there are lots of other chain stores if you get hungry or need to buy last minute essentials. Lastly, I saw previous reviews stating that they had no soap. Our room had soap, shampoo, conditioner, a hair dryer and all the basics needed. Would come back if in area again. read more

We were there for one night March 15. Had a room on the first floor next to a store room that had something that ran on and off all night. Across the hall young people partied all night dropping the F bomb constantly running in the hall and intentionally screaming at each other in the hall. At 2am they had Domino's delivered and the delivery person carried on a conversation in the hall with the jerks in the room, not a secure practice to have deliveries to the rooms. Although the property is a non smoking property the smell of Pot was heavy in the hall. I was ready to call the police as the hotel staff seemed indifferent to or afraid of the guys causing the disruption that I'm sure could be heard throughout the hotel. If all that wasn't enough the room above us had an electronic keyboard and played until 11pm. Needless to say sleep was impossible I feel I lost the value $200.00 for a good nights sleep. read more

I've stayed here numerous times and it's quite a good value. Clean room, cute indoor pool, next to Trader Joe's and Chipotle and Whole Foods, so you're set with stuff to eat. The staff has always been nice to me. And often available on the internet at a reduced price! read more

So, it was $30 a night cheaper than the Holiday Inn Express across the street. Even though there were about 4 cars in the parking lot, we got placed in a room near the elevator and ice machine (and yes, they run all night), and the room next to us was occupied. Wouldn't it make sense to space out the customers by at least a room and not put us right near the loud equipment? The room was a decent size, but smaller than their competitor's and not as bright and cheery. The towels were scratchy and cheap and there wasn't a little bottle of conditioner. Don't hotels always have little bottles of shampoo and conditioner? The selling point that the $30 extra a night was worth it when we turned on the heat and smelled something horrible. Guess we are lucky it was a warmer weekend. read more

The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was very clean. Bathroom clean. We enjoyed the breakfast. The pool was small but clean and nice. And found it was an easy walk to the strip mall behind the hotel. We will be going back again. Really enjoyed our time there. read more

Very Disappointed. We have stayed at many Econo's all over the country and this one took the cake.. I told them my room did not have a Micro.. they wanted to CHARGE me $50.00 .. Seriously? I told them the Smoke Detector was emitting a very bright light ... that something was wrong.. they said, no it is suppose to blink... AND KEEP ME UP ALL NIGHT??.. Stayed 2 nights while visiting colleges in the area. Clean and quiet (on 3rd floor). Breakfast was coffee/tea/juice with bagels, muffins, or cereal. Small pool. Staff were friendly. Room was large (got king size bed) with a small desk for working. I didn't turn on the TV but it was there obviously. If I could give this hotel a zero star rating I absolutely would. Now let me start by stating that I have never been more appalled by a hotels lack of cleanliness. A coworker and myself chose this hotel because it was decently priced for what would have been a four night stay while we were at a seminar for work in the area. We arrived late and we're ready to settle into our room. After showering I noticed that my skin was becoming irritated, didn't think much of it at the time. Finally settled onto the bed to relax, unfortunately the skin irritation began to become worse, the itching sensation almost unbearable and I broke out into little hives all over my legs and arms. At this point in time I notice a flea jump across the white sheets.... (Yes, a flea!) let me note that I am highly allergic to flea bites and immediately break out in hives. At this point I notice another flea, this one actually attached to my sock. I immediately grab the bug and place it in a tissue and call down to the front desk. The women at the front desk said she was shocked and that they don't allow animals in their hotel and has never had any other complaints of this before. She offers to move us to a room five rooms down and brings the key up. At this point I show her the flea and the hives covering my legs and other visible bites to my body. She apologized and kindly helped us move our bags to the other room, stating that it would be discounted from our stay. What had me even more appalled was the inspection I made of this second room we were moved to. Obviously now cautious of the fact that I need to check the room for any other fleas I open the covers to the bed and find that the sheets are dirty with debris. I lift the bottom sheet to inspect the bed further and find that the mattresses on both the beds are soil stained. Please save yourselves the trouble of dealing with a horrible experience and book else where. This hotel needs to be inspected by the state and needs some serious work done or they need to close their doors. It's just not acceptable to be open to the public in the conditions this hotel is in. read more

Dirty...is my only word. Dingy chairs, old dirty carpet. Ants in bathroom. Loud air conditioner and loud fans in bathroom. Concierge was dirty. Just an awful atmosphere. Lots of trash in parking lot. Pool is ok. Breakfast consists of milk that sits out and luke warm water for tea or coffee. Stay somewhere else. You will be glad you did! read more

The staff on check in was great since a storm had just passed through and knocked out the power. They sent us out with instructions to call and see when the power came back on. We eventually got checked in to our room after dinner and the mall. No issues in the room-AC was working well and the bed was so-so. The big disappointment was the TV set. It was old with a huge backside. Tubular and not a good thing! Maybe that was to get us out of the room and on to our fishing. I haven't seen a tv that old since our last stay here. The breakfast was definitely wheaty and the fruit was as old as the TV sets. A very solvable problem. A little creativity and this could be a great hotel in an excellent location. Come on Econolodge. I stayed here one night while in Western Mass. on business. It was adequate--the room was clean (although there was a crack in the window but it didn't affect anything). The staff couldn't have been nicer and the location was great. The free breakfast did leave a lot to be desired, though. I probably just should have gone to the Dunkin Donuts next door. And the bed was a bit on the hard side. But I got a great rate on Travelocity. OK for one night but I don't think I'd stay here longer than that. read more

We will never be using this hotel again. Accidentally booked the wrong date, so when we arrived there was some confusion. The woman at the front desk took a while to even see us because she had her headphones in and was sitting down not facing the desk. She proceeded to be very rude to me and my girlfriend, not answering any questions we had and insisting we check other hotels in the area because there were no rooms available that night. When we asked about refunding our purchase for the wrong date, she continued to insist that we go look for other hotels without answering the question. Without being able to get a refund, we were unable to afford another hotel and were forced to sleep in our car! When we called customer support, after waiting on hold forever, they told us there was nothing they could do and that I couldn't get a refund. Now they are not opening up the room we booked to people who actually wish to stay their that night and I am still forced to pay for the room we are not using. I'm not sure how much worse this hotel could've been to us. As much as their automated machine kept saying that "I'm important to them" and "my call matters" which I heard countless times thanks to the long wait for customer support, they sure don't seem to mean it. Again, I will never be using this hotel. Also, when I called customer support and told them about the woman at the front desk who was rude and unprofessional, they made no mention of her and no plans to talk to her about what she did. She will likely continue to give the same awful experience to everybody who checks in with her. If you find yourself in the area looking for a hotel, trust me when I say anywhere else will treat you better. read more

Stayed for 2 nights for UMASS family weekend 2014. The place is dated but that isn't a deal breaker for me. The bathroom was clean and plenty of hot water. The front desk was helpful and the continental breakfast was par for those things. My problem you ask to give a low rating? BEDS ARE AWEFUL, COMPLETE TORTURE!!! Didn't sleep good at all and dreaded the second night. When you spend $180/ nt plus taxes you expect more. You can feel the metal coils through the mattress everywhere. Painful night sleep without an option for the second night I endured another awful night and look forward to getting home. I have been fortunate to have travelled a crazy amount over the last 25 Years and am not exaggerating when I say these are the worst I've ever slept on. I will never stay here again unless the mattresses have been changed and will check before booking. I should have done my homework better but this area booked up fast with several schools in the area having family events this weekend. Live and learn. read more

Consider a different hotel if you are in the area. Not a bad hotel just needs lots of improvements. TV is from 1996 and there is no wifi connection. Not complaining simply based on technology concerns but it is an issue that I feel they should address. Pretty expensive for what it is at 180 a night. The beds are extremely uncomfortable and the TV is tiny. Pool is also very small and kind of gross. Overall great service at the front desk and free coffee 24/7. Won't be coming back. read more

We have had great experiences before, but this time the Econo Lodge let us down. We booked a room there, and when we showed up they told us the room was oversold and we had to go down the street to the Howard Johnsons. Choice Hotels, who owns the Econo Lodge, said this (sending people to other hotels) was standard policy when they overbook. So, we ended up in a terrible room at the HoJo that had only recently become non smoking a few months ago (but everything still smelled like smoke). The Econo Lodge told us our trouble should be taken up with the HoJo general manager, but the thing is, Econo Lodge, we never wanted to stay at the HoJo. We wanted to stay with you. HoJo can have its own crappy rooms and that should not be an issue for us. You, and the Choice Hotel customer service line, has let us down, even if there is a policy that says your bad behavior is somehow excusable. read more
