Excuse me if I gush a little over this somewhat shabby, older, very-pet-friendly, motel (with an M). See, I'd just spent the night sleeping in my Buick, so, things like heat, running water, hot water, room to stand up, and electricity that didn't come from a 12-volt battery were really precious. I loved my stay here but would otherwise give this place 3-stars. I most likely will return, but only because of the convenience and pet policy. The straight scoop on this place is that it is a decent pet-friendly hotel at a price slightly higher than the shabby condition warrants. There is no pet fee. There is free breakfast, with hard boiled eggs and waffles as the stars. It's enough to get you started. The place and surroundings are well lit and appear to be safe. The room I was in was clean considering the parade of animals that must have been through it over the years. The AAA rate was $69+tax. Finally, if you read my review of the WVDOT, you know I'm a fan of West Virginians. This place supported that, when they didn't charge me for the night before. Recall, I was stuck on I-77. I'd made a reservation in hopes of making it the 9 miles to the hotel from where I'd stopped on the highway. I never made it. Even though they were well within policy to charge me, and I'd have paid given the fact that I made the reservation fully aware of the potential loss, they waived the charge, surely because of the conditions and the fact that they were good (business) people. This sure increases the odds I'll return. read more

Well, it's an Econolodge in Beckley, West Virginia, so you better not be expecting the Four Seasons. That being said, I've stayed at a lot of Econolodges (the rooms always have fridges, which are a must for me!) and this one rates about 4 out of 10 on the creepy scale. So, mid-packer. The building set up is a bit weird - the rooms (or, most of them?) are in a separate building than the lobby, breakfast area etc. A few reviewers have complained that you have to walk up a hill as a result...if you are complaining about that, then you probably need a few more hills in your life. Linens were clean, walls were...not. Seriously, how do walls get so dirty? Staff was extremely friendly. Don't try to use the "fitness center", as they call it - it reeks of cigarette smoke. Wifi was surprisingly actually functioning and the breakfast was adequate for what you are paying. Rooms have fridges/microwaves. A/C works well. Pet friendly if that's your thing, and there's a graveyard adjacent to take them to do their thing. read more

Ya get what ya pay for I guess. Three stars for being the only hotel out of the 6 we went to that got us a room..... (apparently everyone was booked up because there was an event in the area) however, bugs should not be sharing the room with my family and I :( with us driving after a loss in the family and only needed a few ours to rest before our 8hour drive home I can't complain..... except for the friendly bugs. Ugh. So gross. read more

Econo Lodge - Hotels Near Me - Beckley, West Virginia

Staff were very friendly , room was clean. If you have pets there is no pet fee. Price was very reasonable.

I don't mean to be negative by providing a three star review. The motel is exactly that and does not make any pretensions of anything else. The good: They allow pets in their rooms without charging you lots of money. The staff are polite and friendly and i have nothing negative to say about them. I don't have a bad list per say as i don't have high expectations of motels, however i normally stay in nicer hotels so this Econo Lodge looks poor by comparison. We had 1 blanket and 1 sheet, the quality wasn't bad but our room went from very hot to very cold as the in room ac/heater unit was very noisy and we did not want to keep it on. The room itself was decent, large bed, plenty of pillows and a large TV. We had a little concern about cleanliness as my wife found hairs in the sink and on some of the pillows. We skipped the breakfast so i cant give any information on that. One point of interest for some people, the motel is directly next to a cemetery, not even a fence. That bugs some people so i find it worth noting. read more

The staff was nice enough, but there was just something I couldn't put my finger on that made me uncomfortable here. When we drove down to the separate motel portion for these accommodations, there was a couple that came out of their room with dogs, and the fellow was cussing a blue streak at the dog. (I know this isn't the hotels fault, but it didn't make me feel better.) The lighting was poor, especially to have a separate building for the rooms. The rooms were okay. They weren't the cleanest I've seen, and the beds were mediocre, but the AC unit was not on when we went into the room, and it was 85 degrees. The unit never caught up either. (even my family members, who are not hot-natured like myself, said that it was TOO HOT! Apparently, the newly renovated rooms are near the check-in building, and are a bit more, but we were never offered that option (and they weren't sold out.) Room Tip: The pet rooms are on the 1st and 2nd floors Stayed June 2016, traveled with family read more

Wtf?????? I came into my room and it was a complete messm sheets everywhere and garbage on all tables. As i went to the desk to complain a family walked by and then proceeded to open my door and go in. I was checked into a booked room. read more

The price is right. The bathroom was filthy, no coffee maker But, you get a $80 room, not a $135 room. read more

The rates are cheap but the room was horrible. Toilet had been used by someone and wasn't cleaned. Instead of a top sheet on the bed, there was a gauze curtain, the curtains on the windows are stained, the refrigerator seal was so dirty the door was stuck, and the microwave is a hold over from the 70's. Never again will I stay here. I have stayed in Econo Lodges that were nice, and this isn't one. Worst hotel I have stayed in ever. read more

Negative Star. This place is a DUMP. The carpets are nasty filthy stained and look like they have been there 20 + years. The room reeked of urine. I booked for 2 nights and arrived @ 2 AM the first night and could not cancel or get a refund. This place should be inspected by the Health Department and Condemned. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL. read more

Travel a lot for work and used to stay here every time in Beckley. Quiet, comfortable, and easy on the wallet. Last stay, 10/31/19- 11/2/19, was horrible. Hot breakfast was tepid and no longer serve sausage with eggs. Used to take breakfast to room to save time reviewing emails and scheduling day; "new policy" now restricts that. You have a fridge and microwave in room, why restricting eating in room? ?? Doesn't make sense! Lastly, early 2 a.m., Saturday morning found two bedbugs in bed. Brought to attention of manager and was told district manager would be giving me a call, later that day, to make things right. 4 days, no call. Contacted Choice Hotels and asked for partial refund and was told "corporate does not have ability to give refunds, only the motel can do that". Called motel, and by this time felt with all the bull I was getting, I deserved full refund. Manager on duty was not helpful and when I asked if I needed to contact a lawyer and board of health, she got nasty and yelled that "You WILL never get a refund, you are now banned from this hotel forever, and I WILL see that you Choice Membership is revoked and not stay at any Choice Hotel again!". Well honey, I WAS NEVER GOING TO STAY THERE AGAIN ANYHOW! ! And if Choice likes to run a business like that, don't really care if I patronize again! read more

Decent place for a quick overnight. Stayed here on roadtrip from Chicago to Fort Lee, Virginia. Considering our stay would be max 14 hours, was not looking for anything great or expensive ($90 or more a night is expensive for a short overnight...). Near food/gas etc. seemed safe enough. Has soap, shampoo, etc - room had fridge and microwave, too. Room clean except for stained carpet.... no smell. Big plus was complimentary breakfast - pretty basic (no egg or meat) but at least something. Note hotel is behind main building and includes a walk up/down very steep hill to breakfast in main building. My mom is 73 and handled it fine, but just FYI for some. I'd stay here again overnight - worth the $52/night. read more

Nothing spectacular, but good for the price. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room we stayed in had a small fridge, microwave, coffee maker, tv with cable, hair dryer, etc. The room looked to be pretty clean. The parking lot was well lit and I could see my truck and trailer from my room. $30 cheaper than the next cheapest place and no charge for my dog, which was nice. Overall a decent place to stay. read more

On a positive note they are very pet friendly--good for our Bostons but not us. They do not clean the rooms--or generally keep the place up. Their was residue all over the floors and so we had to call to get the place vacuumed. The rooms vary widely with those in the main building much better. Hallways uncleaned and full of dirt. The breakfast was very limited and with nothing but the basics. Our recommendation is to skip this place to go else wear. Beckley by I77 is crowded and its tricky to exit a motel or a restaurant. The local I hop also has problems with staffing and service. read more

Horrible don't stay here. The staff is not friendly the free breakfast is nonexistent they give you only 2 towels per room and don't like to give you more. Came back to the room after 3 one day and the room had not been cleaned. read more

Checked in and checked right back out. Smelled, trash not changed, top cover on bed had been pulled up to make it look clean but both beds had obviously been sleep in and not changed. Sheets were very dirty. Used towel left near sink. Older counter guy was a jerk when we asked for our money back, said that he did Not care at least 10 times. Place was mostly empty for a reason. It's privately owned and no longer part of choice hotels. DO NOT STAY HERE! read more

Very clean, priced right perfect pet friendly motel. Graveyard right next-door perfect for walking the dog.

We stayed here on july 2, 2019. First room we found a bedbug. Took bug to desk and they moved us to another room. In the morning we found another bedbug crawling on the bed. Took bug to desk and showed them. Complained to manager and he said he was sorry and going to refund our money. Now they are denying they had bedbugs and no refund. Worst night ever. read more

Clean room comfortable bed. Dated but good value for a night of rest. Front desk very pleasant when we needed some help with the WIFI. OK breakfast. read more

Do not stay here unless you want to wake up with big welts of god knows what it is that is biting you while you sleep. The employees are very friendly. The manager/owner is recklessly rude and caddy. He will tell you that you were bitten by fireflies outside of the room. I can go on the longest rant about cleanliness but hey it's low grade hotel. There is no excuse however to be awaken by you skin itching badly with welts the size of quarters all around your body. read more

I will first say I would give this a motel a zero if I could. It was the most disgusting motel my wife and I had ever seen. The carpets we're terribly stained. There was mold in the refrigerator. There were crumbs on the floor and on a nightstand. Needless to say we left this hotel and we're able to get a room at another place. We stay in several hotels every year and have neverhad an issue. I don't think it is unreasonable to expect a clean room. read more

worst hotel in the area. if i could rate them a negative star, i would. for starters i get to my room, and the tv didn't work. i call the desk and they say that there's nothing he can do until tomorrow. (i'm here for the night) the desk employee tells me i can't get a different room because "his lobby is full and rooms are low" ... but he already had my money and refused a refund. he then hung up the phone on me. room was dirty, smelled, and setup of place is super sketchy. save yourself some hassle and money, and go to super 8 down the street. read more

This hotel was once a decent pet friendly hotel where I stayed with my 3 dogs. When I was there in March 2015 I noticed the room wasn't as nice and the WIFI wasn't working very well. Since I just needed a room for the night I went ahead and made a reservation there for my trip in May. Unfortunately when I got there I was informed by 2 rather rude employees that their pet policy had been changed to allow only 1 dog under 50 pounds. They turned away me and another woman with one dog that was over 50 pounds and that was just in the 15 minutes I was in the office. Apparently they would rather have empty rooms than to return to their old policy. Fortunately I found a MUCH nicer hotel (The Country Inn and Suites) down the road that was more expensive but cleaner and allowed multiple dogs. I won' be staying at this Econolodge again nor will I recommend them. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this Econo Lodge. My husband and I stopped here en route during our move from Cleveland to Jacksonville. We were stuck for hours while 77 south was shut down in Ohio then hit horribly icy roads in WV and therefore only made it to Beckley, WV instead of Charlotte, NC like we had planned. It took us 9 hours to make a 5.5 hour journey. Did I mention we had 3 cats with us??? They were, somehow, amazingly well behaved and Econo has a great pet policy - free! So we stopped here overnight and unloaded the cats who were very happy to be able to walk around and use the litter box, even if it was a strange place. We had a nonsmoking room but it reeked of smoke anyway, that would be my only complaint. Otherwise the room was clean, and I had to dig one kitty out from behind the bed in the morning to wedge her back in the carrier and even the area behind the bed wasn't frightening. Unlike the remainder of the icy/snowy drive through WV and VA....I'm not going to miss the snowy winters!! read more

Ok people. This is an older motel. We were driving home from fort Lee after dropping off my Son. We booked two rooms. They were very clean, the bed and bedding were newer and clean. The staff was very nice. The little breakfast in the morning was lovey. It did the job and they deserve a nice review. read more

BEWARE OF BED BUGS. I stayed here Friday and Saturday night this past weekend. Yesterday I noticed some bites on my hand that were swollen and unlike any bug bite I've ever had. By last night I had 22 bites between both of my arms. By this morning I noticed 32 bites on just one arm that are very clearly bed bug bites. I called the manager this morning to inform them so they know to clean the room. I never asked for anything, and he got very defensive immediately and said three people had checked the room and clearly there were not bugs. He did not ask what bed I was in, if anyone with me had issues (they did not), or any questions. I asked if that meant he was not going to do anything and he said that I needed a live bug to be able to call the health department. He said he would call me back if anything happened, but never took down my number. For you and your family's safety, do not stay here. Also, the internet was horrendous and the "breakfast" was incredibly limited and not continuously supplied. read more

This hotel was great! We really needed to find a place that would accept our dog. We have a 2 yr. old pug. We stayed in a non- smoking room. It was on the smaller side, but we also got the king size bed room. But the room was updated, clean and a great location. We would stay here again. Free breakfast wasn't bad, wasn't great. But overall had a great stay with our Otis. read more

No maid service the whole time, had to take up our own trash and get towls and toilet paper. Pets stay free but it costs extra for kids over 12. $10 extra per night per kid over 12!!! Beds uncomfortable, overall worst stay. Way too much $ for the experience. read more

Roger, the front desk clerk for the evening, was clearly having a bad day and took it out on me! I asked if he had any rooms available and he asked how many people. I told him 2 adults. He looks at his computer and then said that he needs my driver's license and credit card. He never said what kind of rooms he had nor did he offer a price. I then asked about the price to which he quoted 70something. I then asked if I could see a room. He told me that he's not showing me a room because he doesn't have anyone there that can do so. It was around 10 pm and there was no one else on the lobby. He could have easily taken me to see a room. Perhaps it's company policy not to allow a possible patron to see the room first. He didn't stop there though. He threw his pen at his computer and told me that I could go somewhere else and maybe someone else would show me a room but he wasn't going to do it. He became very loud and aggressive in his attitude stating that he has a very nice hotel. Well Roger, you might think that but as a customer, I have the right to request to see what I'm paying for before I pay for it. I will not stay in any establishment without first viewing the rooms and inspecting for cleanliness and bedbugs!!! If there was an option for ZERO stars, that's certainly what I would have selected! If your front desk clerk can't handle simple questions and reasonable requests without going off on someone, to include throwing a pen, then the place doesn't deserve any stars. I told him that he was being rude and that I would be contacting corporate to which he told me that I was being rude and that he had me on camera! Um, that's perfect because I would love for corporate to view that video. I was not the one being rude here! I might also add that I slipped and nearly fell because it had been snowing and there wasn't any salt put down! read more
