Beckley, WV Hotel room smelled awful, transferred to luggage and clothing. Carpet was sticky. Tv remote was not in room ,(so no TV) and Wi-Fi needed to be re-booted several times. Didn't work until after midnight. No luggage carts available, had to make several trips to carry in luggage. Hotel is very run down. Would not recommend to anyone for the high price paid. Maybe it's the nostalgia. Maybe it's legit. Either way, I loved this motel. This place reminded me of my business travel days, in a very positive way. I'm having a hard time finding anything I didn't like about this place. Maybe the price at $99, incl tax for one night. That said, here are the highlights: Location - Awesome, right off I-77, near just about any kind of restaurant you could want. It's minutes from Tamarack, a WV craft and food venue that everyone traveling I-77 must visit. Check-in and service - check-in was smooth, friendly, and very informative. Service at breakfast was friendly and welcoming. The breakfast options were adequate, with eggs, sausage, waffles, cold cereal, fruit, coffee and juices offered in the on-premise restaurant. Room - clean, spacious, and well stocked. It might be simple, but water pressure and temperature are both excellent. In-room coffee, plenty of towels, a desk for working or eating, a comfy side chair, and iron/ironing board. Amenities - as mentioned before, there is both an on-premise restaurant and separate lounge. They both looked spacious and welcoming. Sadly, I didn't visit either, regrettably deciding to hit Ruby Tuesday's for their AYCE garden bar (I prefer to call it the AYCE E-coli bar). They offer pet-friendly rooms. They are separate, and come with a one-time $25 fee. On TV, I found many premium channels for movies, and all the standard cable package channels (via DirecTV). Parking was ample, but must warn that walking distances could be long because of the parking and building layout. I loved this stay and will likely be returning to this property if I make the trek from FL to OH again. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. We were exhausted from a long drive and was looking forward to getting some rest and relax a little before heading on to our destination the following day. Upon entering the room was greeted with the filthiest room I've ever encountered. The carpeting had black, ground in dirt. Not just a spot or two but the whole room. The entire place is shabby and rundown and smells awful. We left after informing the front desk who didn't seem to care much shrugging her shoulders saying "I don't clean I just work the front desk". I told her we wanted a refund and she said she couldn't help me. We had to call the Guest Relations number but they were unable to refund our points. Not a big deal since we will never stay at a Choice hotel ever again. read more

I definitely won't come back to this place and can't recommend it over the numerous other options nearby. On the positive side, the rooms are clean, and bathrooms appear to have been recently renovated. However, one of our 2 rooms had an overwhelming air freshener aroma, indicating someone likely smoked or had a pet there. One of the rooms had damaged carpet and chair, which I would also guess is from a pet. The showers were lukewarm at best, and the breakfast was the smallest continental offering I've seen - fake eggs, cereal, bagels, and a broken wafflemaker. There are simply too many better options nearby at a comparable price. Do yourself a favor and try them out first. read more

I stopped in here in transit from South Carolina to Pennsylvania. I must say, I was impressed with this hotel. The bathrooms were very clean, with plenty of towels and toiletries. The beds were comfortable, and the TV was functional. There was an outlet strip on the nightstand that included some USB ports for charging phones. There was a nice desk with an office chair, in addition to a comfortable armchair. The breakfast area was one of the best I've seen at a hotel for this price. There were plenty of tables, a fair variety of foods (including a waffle maker). The staff was very friendly as well, and super helpful with anything we needed. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel! For its price point, it really shines. read more

Good: cleanliness, outdoor pool, comfortable, breakfast wasn't what I was hoping for but good and filling. For a non smoker the air quality in rooms and halls was good. Not so great: ants in bathroom...not a huge deal to me since I know it can be clean and have ants ...but not so great...cost was a little higher than I was wanting for this, but in comparison to others in the area at the time was ok...will likely look for something different next time tho...might be better deals for this value in Beckley? Probably the most glaring problem with this hotel is a complete lack of elevators. This is not necessarily a problem if you are staying in a room on the first or second floors, since there are handicapped accessible entrances to both from the parking lot. But if you're on the third floor, be prepared to haul your luggage up the the stairway. Other notes: The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable, but the pillows are more like little cushions which was annoying. Windows do not open. Water pressure was quite poor, and it takes a long time for the water to warm up. Good selection of TV channels. Best thing is the hotel bar (Morgan's), a friendly little place where a lot of locals hang out. Price for a large cup of Bud draft was just $2.00. But don't bother going if you are a militant non-smoker, because Morgan's is part of that vanishing breed of bars where you can actually smoke. read more

Needs an update, carpet and paint on the way to the room lead me to think the room was going to be rough... The room was clean, but dated also. The staff and prices were good (no complaints in this area). There is also a bar in the front of the Hotel that originally made me think I was not going to sleep...no worries, it was insulated enough so that I could not hear them (they had loud music @ the bar). If you are sensitive to noise you probably will want to pick one of the other hotels nearby... There are plenty. read more

I was invited to teach a forensic science class at the West Virginia University Institute of Technology on January 26, 2019. The university provided accommodations for me at the Quality Inn in Beckley, WV. I checked in on the evening of January 25, 2019 and checked out mid morning on January 27, 2019. As someone who has traveled extensively, I always make it a point to check my room thoroughly prior to leaving so as not to leave anything behind. Upon pulling back the bed sheets and comforter, I discovered what appeared to be a large bloodstain the size of a salad plate (please see attached photograph). It very quickly dawned on me that the sheets were not changed prior to my arrival and that I was sleeping in someone else's blood for two nights. I was completely disgusted. Prior to exiting my room I picked up a hand towel off the floor to throw it into the bathroom and this also had blood on it. I immediately left the room and hotel. I had all I could do to keep from throwing up. Th next morning I called and I spoke to the manager at that particular location. I explained the situation and she apologized profusely and assured me that WVU Tech would be refunded their money and that she would look into the matter. She asked me for a copy of the picture which I emailed to her. That was the last I ever heard from her. As of February 1, 2019 WVU Tech had not been refunded the money for that stay. I asked the department secretary to call and find out what was going on. She did so and was told that they have a spray that determines if blood is fresh or not and that what they saw was clearly fresh blood. In addition the secretary explained to the manager that I'm a forensics expert and that I would know the difference between fresh blood and old blood. The manager replied that she expected her (the secretary) to take my side, but she would refund the money none the less. When this information was relayed to me, I was furious. Not only did she not accept responsibility for her own negligence or that of her staff, but then she tried to lie about it and cover it up. As I mentioned I'm a forensic science teacher. No such "spray" exists anywhere in the world. Boy did she pick the wrong person to try and cling to this misinformation campaign with. Sleeping on sheets contaminated with someone else's blood potentially exposed me to HIV, hepatitis, and a host of other blood borne pathogens. I can't believe that this occurred. I've heard hotel horror stories for years, but mine definitely ranks up there. I've stayed at dozens and dozens of hotels from one end of the country to the other over the years and this was hands down the most disgusting experience I've ever had. Not only was it disgusting to sleep in someone else's blood and on sheets that were clearly not changed in between guests, but the way the management handled it was absolutely shameful. I emailed the main headquarters for Quality Inn and got a reply that basically said that each Quality Inn was individually owned and that they'd forward my complaint to them. That was the last I ever heard from anyone from Quality Inn. read more

Good hotel at good price. It is pet friendly, however, you have to tell them when you book a room that you need a "pet designated room" and it comes with a $25 surcharge. The rooms were clean with plenty of charging outlets near the beds. Rooms had a mini-fridge and microwave. The breakfast was fresh and hot and had lots of options- one of the best breakfasts we've had. The staff were friendly. We would stay here again. read more

I just came in for Memorial Day to put so flowers for some loved ones that have passed me and my family came in,unpacked and wanted to go get the internet.anytime we clicked on the network it didn't let us type in the code.me and my cousin asked the lady at the desk what do we do she said it should let you type it in.which it did not she gave us so much attitude and rolled her eyes.i finally got after spending 15 minutes on the phone with a technician that doesn't even work here,trying to figure it out.On top of it all around 10 30 we all wanted to go to the gas station to get milk our directions were not very clear so I asked the lady and I said is there gas station around here she responded with umm well there one on the right in walking distance and I asked what they name was and she said I don't know slammed her keys down and rolled her eyes.lastly we forgot what time check out was we asked and she said 12:00 but she yelled it.So over all it a nice hotel it's clean but I feel that the staff needs to be a little more actually a lot more nice to people read more

The hotel smelled of smoke and musty. They put us in a non smoking room on a floor filled with smoking rooms. I had to put a towel down by the door to block out the smell as best as I could. The handle that turns the water on and off for the shower fell off and my husband fell in the tub trying to get it fixed. The desk clerk didn't want to get involved, she said she was just a clerk. We could not call down to the desk because the phone did not work. Also the phone was filthy, the mouth and ear piece was black with crud. This hotel was excellent. The people that work there are "southern hospitality" friendly and eager to help any way they can. Our room was clean and fresh. The mattress was super comfy. The maid service did a great job. For a mid price I am not sure what I was expecting but I was pleasantly surprised. Stopped here on a Wednesday night. Got a cozy room for a reasonable price! A hairdryer was broken, but the front desk staff immediately offered another. A Coffee machine in our room was missing a part where the coffee bag was supposed to be placed, BUT free breakfast made up for that!! Food was fresh and LOTS of choices!Nevertheless giving it 5 starts for warm hospitality, good price, clean room, fast internet and fresh yummy breakfast! Very happy. read more
