Three of us ordered the Halibut last night. All of us thought it was one of the worst meals of our lives. I have eated fish in most of the neighborhoods of San Francisco over the last 50 years, and the Fish and Chips found anywhere are better than this crap they served us. Obviously frozen, prepared patties, they were bland and tasteless... and this is Halibut? The best tasting fish you can order anywhere. All of us would have preferred Miss Grotton's frozen stuff. The Clam Chowder was first rate, but that's not exactly what we ordered. This dinner was totally disgraceful! read more

I am in the process of staying here for 2 weeks. Even though the stay here is average to nice, this isn't about the hotel as much as it is about the eclipse bar and restaurant. In my opinion the food selection is somewhat dull and average. The breakfast is decent but you better get it with the room deal because it isn't worth the price if I had to pay up front. Here is where the bar falls apart. I've seen on two occasions where others have ordered beers and the server, would grab a filled glass out of the wine fridge or from under the taps and pour the beer into another glass to present a good head and fresh poured beer. Now I could blame the server if it was the same one. Instead it was a different one each time. Now I blame management I would recommend going somewhere else personally or watch them like a hawk because if they cut corners on a fresh beer then where does the line they cross stop. read more

I went to Eclipse Monday evening for cocktails and ended up staying for over two hours! It has a great vibe and I love all of the little details everywhere. First, I got the "22 year old CEO" cocktail which was delish and refreshing. I remembered a cocktail (honey rye) I used to get before they renovated and after describing it to the manager, she knew exactly what it was and made it herself for me! We had a few apps and while everything was tasty, I could eat their house made kettle chips all day. Pleasant service, great drinks/eats and chill environment - what more could you want?! read more

I was staying at the Hyatt Regency, and decided to grab a drink at the hotel bar while I was waiting for a friend. The Eclipse Lounge has a small circular bar in the middle of it (how clever), with maybe 15 seats, and two bartenders slinging drinks. When I arrived around 9pm, most of the bar seats were taken, but it wasn't busy. I stood within clear eye sight of both bartenders and was ignored for 10 minutes before I decided to walk away. Definitely not the type of service I was expecting. read more

Decor and seating is unique and beautiful. Food and service doesn't match the decor. Came for Sunday breakfast/brunch. My friend ordered off the menu while I tried their buffet. She ordered the corned beef hash with poached eggs and coffee. A couple minutes later the waitress came to say they don't have fresh pressed juice today. We said OK but we didn't order pressed juice. So then she asked us again what we ordered. Buffet was decent but nothing special. It didn't have an omelette station or a waffle station. The scrambled eggs were under done for my taste. The blueberry pancakes were good and so was the granola yogurt cups. The scones were the worst I ever had and I couldn't eat it. It was so dry you would think they were a month-old. When The corn beef hash and poached eggs came one poached egg was fine and the other was hard boiled so had to be sent back. Why the kitchen served it that way and why the waitress served it that way when it was obviously hard boiled is frustrating. And when we pointed it out to the waitress she acted like she didn't know what a poached egg was. Repeatedly we had to ask for coffee refills. Overall not at the level of other Hyatt regency dining locations. read more

My date went and spoke to the waitress to ask if we could get menus. Then he spoke to the hostess, explaied that we never got seated and that we needed menus. They never came over and we left. Food was ok, but service was horrible. The server was oddly hostile as soon as she arrived at the table, acting incredulous when someone in our party asked what was included in the breakfast buffet, and finding a way to sarcastically describe a menu item. This wasn't a demanding crowd, she was just awful. Further, an assistant server essentially argued with us when one person asked for an extra saucer of ketchup. I had reserved a table for 2:30 Thanksgiving day for their Thanksgiving Meal on Open Table. It was supposed to be a special day. At 11:30 a.m. THANKSGIVING DAY I got a call from the restaurant saying they weren't serving their Thanksgiving meal until 4 pm. That was too late because we had other plans. The restaurant did try to find us a reservation elsewhere. The only thing they came up with was The Waterfront and it was a lot more expensive plus I didn't know what was on the menu. The restaurant blames Open Table and I haven't heard back from them. Ended up eating at Mel's Diner because it was the only place we could get in and out of in a reasonable time. Not exactly what I had in mind for a special Thanksgiving dinner. I don't feel I was treated fairly by the restaurant. I guess it doesn't matter that they really ruined what was supposed to be a nice day with a very good friend. read more

Had a perfect Manhattan, it was excellent! The newly remodeled Eclipse bar is awesome. They spent some serious money to get it to look as great as it does. Big screen TVs, probably more than 25 seats at the over-sized bar and really cool seating pods made out of large wine casks. Food was great and it wasn't too crowded. read more

Came here for a drink in the evening and a weeknight and their wine selection is out of this world. Love seeing the prisoner wine available by glass. And their burger is delicious!!! We've eaten here 25 or 30 times over the last few years as we live nearby and would frequently drop in for a quick bite of some decent food with warm friendly service. Unfortunately, since the restaurant "re-opened", it has gone downhill and tonight's entree was literally inedible. My salad came out without any dressing so I had to wait 5 or 10 minutes after I pointed it out to get some dressing. My wife's tea didn't come until after we had finished our apps. My fish dish--supposedly black cod-- tasted like it had been frozen, thawed, refrozen and then left out--basically mush. My wife's pot stickers were quite tasty but her steak was mediocre and I'm not convinced it was really from Niman Ranch. My recommendation: If you are staying in the hotel and really don't feel like walking across the street to have much better food and you don't mind having boring tasteless food in a nice setting, this place is for you. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and eat elsewhere. read more

We arrived late from the east coast so decided to eat at the hotel and we were pleasantly surprised. The flatbread was generously sized and tasty. My friend's sandwich was also very good and the sweet potato fries were crispy and nicely seasoned. read more

We stopped by to see all the Christmas decor. The hotel lights are breathtaking. Decided on our way to a party, to have cocktails and apps. It seemed short staffed, self seating, which seems to confuse the waiters. We got our apps, before our drinks as the bartender was also by herself and backed up. The food runner, was just going to drop the food and leave. I asked him if he could bring plates, and utensils. It just didn't dawn on him, that we would need those things. This is a union hotel, I know they are making decent money. Hyatt should have trained him better, before letting him hit the floor. When we saw our waiter, he was great. He was just too busy, to spend much time with his tables. Don't think I would return. read more

What a shame. They took a beautiful hotel atrium and turned it in to an "I don't know what." Traditionally for the past few years another family and ours have gone out for Breakfast With Santa. I gave it two stars because Santa was spectacular and the buffet was as expected...cold food but edible. Otherwise it was just sad and a mere shadow of its former self. When We pay $600 for breakfast for 9 adults, two babies and two toddlers ( 20% tip automatically added for what I have no idea), I actually expect a tablecloth on the table. We are not talking here about pretty tables, dinnerware and flatware. I've been in fancier cafeterias. Because I asked if the mimosas and bloody Mary's they had were included and told yes, I was amazed at the extra hundred dollar charge for alcohol. The manager on duty offered no explanation except to tell me it was illegal to serve "free alcohol". Well unless it's included I 'm thinking but what do I know and I wasn't up for a scene. And it was Christmas and a bottle of Cooks Champagne has probably gone up. So we paid the bill including the RIDICULOUS gratuity but I won't be back and I'll be sure to advise my friends here in SF to stay away. Next year, I will make breakfast, use my Christmas plates and ask Santa to just come here. Why did I not think of that before! read more

Who knew this cute quirky bar was hidden inside the Hyatt Regency? Definitely worth an after work visit now that it's been fully renovated, lots of cozy nooks to sit in and good specialty cocktail selection. Creative design with a menu to match. Do not miss the truffle fries. read more

Wow! The Avocado Toast is my favorite--grilled sourdough, avocado,roasted tomato, poached egg, herb salad. It is so fresh and such a healthy way to start the day! Catch breakfast here and you won't be disappointed. read more

Cool restaurant, awesome food, great bar...check it out. Our very picky daughter claims the Clam Chowder in the Bread Bowl is by far THE BEST anywhere! Regarding breakfast: The food is not good, especially for the price. The hotel is fairly nice, but there are several great restaurants in the area for about half to two-thirds the cost. So do yourself a favor - save some money eating MUCH better food while enjoying some nice scenery in this beautiful area of the city. read more

I was staying at the Hyatt last weekend, visiting some family in the Bay Area, and had dinner at the Eclipse on a Saturday night. We were able to get seated quickly and the food was actually quite tasty and thoughtfully prepared. The service, however, was among the worst I have ever received. I had to ask for drinks (no wine list was provided, nor any wines by the glass explained), and the waiter offered no explanation of any of the selections. He served the wrong plates to several members of my party. The worst, however, is that I ordered a small salad to start and then a more substantial entree, as did everyone else at the table. However, when everyone else's entrees were served, the waiter did not bring mine. I waited a few moments. Nothing. I tried to wave him over. Nothing. Did not even look at me. Finally I was able to call his attention to our table. "Yes?" he asked. "Ummm," I said, "I don't have my food." "You didn't order anything," he said. "Yes, I did, " I replied. "I ordered the salmon." "No you didn't," he said. Another member of my party said, "yes, she did. I heard her," and he reluctantly placed the order. By the time I received my food, everyone was nearly done with theirs. Was an apology offered? No. Were dessert or drinks comped? No. Did the waiter ever come by to ask how the meal was, or if we needed another drink? Nope. Later, I read that the Hyatt is experiencing some labor problems (read: they are anti-union). They should work within the union to try to retain professional, experienced employees. As it stands now, I would never recommend the restaurant to anyone. read more

I work in the Embarcaderos so find the convenience of eating here. It's a mixed bag depending on where you sit and who's serving you. I like the burgers once in a while. Today, they had to do a redo as they burned the burger and the inside was too pink. Don't understand how they can make a delicious nonburned burger 2 weeks ago and today both burgers were inedible. The women servers are more attentive then most of their men waiters. Concepcion is excellent and is always the first to bring me some bread. Roni is another waitress that is totally aware of what her customers like and is on top of everything. For the most part, the men waiters leave a lot to be desired. There are a few who are attentive, and I guess it depends on what day of the week it is. Really makes me mad when one of their managers comes out and apologizes for the lousy burger and tells me that's the way they cook them...Nope, I've had better there. I'm going to stop going there for a while. Maybe they'll fire their Chinese chef and get someone who knows how to make a good burger. read more
