After trying most of the coffee venues in the Canmore/Banff area, we decided to give Rave a try this morning. The shop is located in a non-descript spot in a strip mall. When you enter, there is a bit of a small warehouse feel...but kind of trendy as well. I ordered the dark (all pour over), but can't remember the coffee description. My friend ordered the Americano....which she asked for a 50/50 decaf/caf blend. For my taste, I didn't like my choice as well as some of the other venues in town...and it was slightly more pricey. Overall, the service was good and I would still recommend giving this a try as maybe it was just a function of my selection today. read more

The main issue with Rave lies either in the beans or in the shots, producing a bitter/burnt taste. Many a coffee shop has been brought down by an inexperienced barista or a poorly setup machine. Judging from the expansive rows and rows of different roasts for sale at Rave, and the nice latte art so reminiscent of their logo, my best guess is that the failure lies in the setup of the machine itself, or in the grind/tamp pressure. I only sampled it three times with a latte, cappuccino and a mocha, so it could also have been just a mediocre couple of days. On the plus side the space is nice, the baristas friendly, and it looks like it should, or could be 5 stars. Tl;dr- for the average coffee drinker, passable coffee. Coffee here is pretty good and reminiscent of what I get back in the states. We had both the iced and hot vanilla latte and I'd prefer the iced. The hot was a little milky for my liking. Service is extremely friendly as expected. Overall, a good go to coffee spot in canmore. read more

Really enjoyed our experience at Rave! We came in right when they were closing and they were so kind and took the time to brew some seriously delicious pour overs. They are meticulous and make their pour overs with an exact amount of water at the perfect temperature. Right when they hand over your coffee it's ready to drink and delicious. This place has potential, but needs help. We are locals, coffee fans, and have been meaning to stop by for awhile; finally did, and were immediately confused. They've got a huge area for roasting (much bigger than necessary, it seems) in a great sunny space by the windows, but it's glassed off and seemingly inaccessible to patrons. The main counter where customers come in is a tiny dark space off the back parking lot, with two couches (which were both occupied by one girl on a computer, who didn't offer to free up some space). So after paying $27 for three lattes and granola bars, and unsure what to do next, we asked if we could sit in the coffee roasting room, where there was a table set up by the window. The owner (I presume) said sure, but while we drank our coffees and ate our bars, the barista (different guy) stood over us, eating popcorn in our ears. I suspect that he didn't want us to feel too welcome in the "non-customer" area. Also, there was a lady sitting alone in the far corner (the manager?) texting on her phone and staring at us as we sat there. She didn't say a word. The whole thing was uncomfortable. Coffees were great, bars were good. Overpriced, but whatever, it's Canmore. They need to rework their layout, and their customer focus. Unless they just want to be a roasting operation that sells beans and maybe coffees to go. Not sure that they'll survive here. read more

Rave coffee is a 15 minute drive from our house in Canmore and it's 110% worth the drive. Hands down best coffee in the bow valley!

Absolutely awesome coffee. We tried the Ethiopian coffee and it was so delicious we decided to purchase the Kenyan and Costa Rican blends as well - equally amazing. I also got a chicken pesto panini, which was delicious, my boyfriend got a sausage wrap which was good but perhaps a little dry. Overall we loved the place and will be back whenever we're in Canmore. read more

I love the coffee made by Rave! I don't often stop in to their coffee shop, because their setup is for roasting, not necessarily for hanging out. But I do love stopping by their stall during the summer at the downtown mountain market on Thursdays, and I definitely recommend frequenting the places in town that carry their beans. read more

We were in Canmore for a short holiday a few weeks ago. We came across Rave when we were looking online for coffee shops. Other than being a little pricier than we're used to at home, the coffee was excellent. I even bought some beans to take home. The banana bread and homemade granola bar were also very tasty! My best coffee experience in Canmore. Finally a cafe that knows what they are doing! The staff was very knowledgable and friendly, and we ended up liking our coffee so much that we bought some beans.
