Amazing food, the rasta pasta with shrimp is fantastic. Also, paired with the jolly rancher smoothie is beyond heaven!! Check them out!

Located immediately outside of Minnesota Avenue Metro Station, the "Jamaican" cafe is situated below the parking garage. I wasn't acknowledged by the older male cashier that was clearly annoyed with the customer before me and her young children. I ordered curry shrimp for myself and chicken curry for my mom. I also requested extra gravy. When my order was ready, a woman emerged from the back and began packing my food in bags. While doing so, she looked up, shook her finger at me and said "I don't usually give extra gravy but I did this time only" to which I responded "oh.. okay...". My mother and I both agreed that while the food was seasoned well, it definitely WAS NOT curry... She could have kept her extra mystery gravy after all. Not for me and I won't be returning.

Adjacent from the Minnesota Ave., Subway station there's a eatery. I'll pass by the spot all the time but on this day I decided to stop. I went in, I ordered, I sat down, and WENT IN!! Let's see what they're hittin on!! . Where I am: Eclectic Cafe . Location Reviewed: 4058 C Minnesota Ave., N.E. Washington D.C. . Menu Includes: French Toast, Pancakes, Chicken & Waffles, Shrimp n Grits, Callaloo & Saltfish, Omelettes, Bacon, Eggs, Sausage, Ham, Paninis, Bagels, Jerk,BBQ, & Curried Chicken, Oxtails, Curried Goat, Patties, Red Snapper, Wings, Burgers, Cabbage, Plantains, Soups, Salads, Beverages & More!! . Items Reviewed: Their Mango Burst Smoothie ($4.50). STAMP!! Thick, refreshing, fresh!! Their Beef & Chicken Patties ($2.50 each). STAMP them both!! Savory, seasoned perfectly, meaty, & tasty. Their Fried Fish Sandwich (fried whiting with hot sauce, & bread $6.79). DELICIOUS!! Hot, good pricing, but a tad bit bland. Their Jerk Chicken Eclectic Platter (with rice n peas, and cabbage $13.50). The Chicken was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! Plentiful, spicy, & tender!! The Rice n Peas, & Cabbage we're DECENT. These items were ok, they didn't taste fresh. Their Oxtail Eclectic Platter (with mac n cheese, & collard greens $18.79). STAMP the oxtail!! Plentiful, wonderfully seasoned, and super tender!! The greens were DECENT. I PASS on the Mac n cheese. The cheese was too watery. . Customer Service: Attentive . A tad slow. . Online Navigation: Easy . Parking: Metered, Enforced. . Recommendations: The Smoothie, the patties, the meats. =STAMP =A.DELICIOUS =DELICIOUS =DECENT =PASS =NAH #Bigschlimsreviews

Nasty, wont be going back.

Jamaican food was crappy! Thr ox tail barely had any meat on the bones, almost like it was somebodys leftover. Stew too salty and oily, carbage was wilted and salty!

Had some impressive meals in this Michelin restaurant during my visit to DC…read more The first time was for lunch. Ordered the Oxtail bowl. By default it came with two pieces of oxtails but that was too much meat for me so I asked for just one piece and more veggies. My server was kind enough to do such modification for me. The oxtail was fork-tender, had lots of collagen, beefy, and had a distinct sourness. The pickled veggies (cucumber slaw & bell peppers) provided a different type of sourness and a hint of heat. Overall very good, though the flavors from the meat and veggies were so strong that I could not have a clear idea of the flavor of the coconut rice. Also, I wish there could be more jus because it went soooooo well with the rice! The second time was for dinner. Tried the Pepperpot, Crispy Kale and Hops. The Pepperpot was a stew of oxtails, cowheels and beef chucks. Very beefy and spicy, a little bit sour/tangy, and very earthy. The sauce was heavenly. It was served with a small bowl of coconut rice and 2 pieces of hops. The rice was a little bit sweet and salty. The hops were similar to dinner rolls, except that they were more dense and firmer. I thought the Crispy Kale was like fried cabbage in soul food but it was literally fried -- so it was very crispy. Too oily for me. I like the mango chutney, though. Service was good and quick. While the restaurant is very small, reservation does not seem to be difficult, especially for lunch. There were, however, lots of online orders.

THIRD TIMES THE CHARM!…read more This is my second time dining at Lydia's on H (third visit). My first time was Valentine's Day, and the restaurant, while calm, was chaotic, AKA the full menu was not available. The second attempt to dine there, the staff member (whose name I forgot, please charge it to my head and not my heart!) informed us before we sat down that the evening service was a limited menu. To entice us to return and ensure consistent customer-centric service, the bar manager invited us to return on the first night and asked the staff to inform us when we arrived. Sure enough, the next day, when we arrived, there was a note for the staff informing them that they should be expecting us. The vibe in Lydia's is always chill! The music is always good and at a volume where you and others can still enjoy each other's company with conversation if desired. Overall, the food, service, and ambiance at this establishment should be the standard for many others. Well done, Lydia's. We are excited to come back and try the steak-and-cheese egg rolls next time.

Food looks better than it tastes...just hear me out!…read more We decided to close out Black History Month by supporting a Black-owned establishment, very intentional, very on brand for us. It was also my first time trying Malawian cuisine, so I was genuinely excited to experience something different. I went with a group of friends after an event, which worked out perfectly because we were able to taste a little bit of everything. I ordered the Brussels sprouts as my starter; they were good, nicely seasoned. My only issue? Timing. They didn't come out first. Everyone else had their food, and my "starter" came right before my entrée, which kind of defeated the purpose. For my main, I had the shrimp and salmon rasta pasta. It was good...creamy, flavorful, but definitely spicy. Not unbearable, just be prepared if heat isn't your thing. My mocktail was refreshing and good too... just small. A couple real sips and it was gone. Overall, the service was good. They were accommodating and made sure our group was seated comfortably, even moving tables around so we had a better setup. I appreciated that. The ambiance was very Black eclectic: cool R&B vibes, nice energy, a solid spot to gather and vibe. Checl out my pics! I'll be rating each dish I tried on a 10 point scale. Would I return? Probably not. It wasn't bad; it just didn't wow me. And in the DMV, there are way too many other spots on my list to try.

It's something that's only available from 7:00-11:00am on weekends, and I'm usually sleeping in or just not ready to get out of the house that early. My family and I were leaving for NY early on a Saturday morning, and I had no choice but to be awake and ready. So before we took off, I took advantage! It was around 8:30am and I was the only one in the restaurant. But it smelled amazing in there and they were friendly and happy! I had glimpsed the menu online, and I was scanning their screens for it above the register, but they had their regular menu up. I was walked through the options, and even got to taste a few things. I got to try sa\da roti for the first time, and I was intrigued. It's very similar to pita bread, but after looking it up I learned of the subtle differences. I was able to put pumpkin, smoked herring, saltfish, or eggplant & potatoes in it. I got food for my parents as well, so I settled on quite a few things: -Sada roti w/ pumpkin -Sada roti w/ eggplant/potatoes -Bake & saltfish -3 aloo pies Everything... was... STELLAR. I tasted the smoked herring and I honestly wish I got that in something, but I most certainly will next time. Is this the best Trini restaurant in the DMV?!

Each dish was cooked with tender love and care. I prefer my wings fried hard but nonetheless no crumbs were left. The jerk oysters will have you begging for more. That's the kind of energy that tells you something before you even sit down. Two levels, a bar on the first floor, plenty of seating once things moved along. Here's the part that made me smile: happy hour is all day on Fridays. ALL day. I got a margarita with Sorrow in it (yes, that's the liqueur and yes it was delicious), brussels sprouts, and char grilled oysters. Everything on the happy hour menu was $12. Twelve dollars. I ordered the tamarind BBQ wings to go and I need you to understand that once I got home and opened that bag, it was over. Fried perfectly, sweet, sticky, and absolutely worth whatever guilt you're carrying. I'm already plotting a return visit for the oxtails. Now, Lamar. The bartender on duty that evening deserves his flowers. Within two minutes of me sitting down, I had water and a placemat in front of me. He stayed attentive the entire time without hovering, checked in on everyone around him, and genuinely made the experience feel cared for. The rest of the staff that came around were just as friendly and on point. If you're in Southeast DC and looking for a spot with good vibes, good food, and staff that actually shows up, Sapadillas is it. I will be back.

We came yesterday for our anniversary, and from start to finish, everything was exceptional. First, our waiter Rafael was superb. He truly made the entire experience feel top tier. Every recommendation he gave us -- from the dishes to the drinks -- was absolutely on point. His service, attention, and energy took an already amazing meal to another level. We've been to their sister restaurant, Tatiana, and really enjoyed it, but I have to say Dogon completely blew us away. The flavors, the spices, and the textures were all perfect. We had the charbroiled oysters, Benne's Bowl, Mom Dukes Shrimp, the coconut curry branzino, and finished with the rum cake. Every single dish was outstanding. The food tasted so rich, soulful, and layered -- it honestly felt like I was eating in a friend's Caribbean grandmother's home. Top notch customer service and attention to detail. Definitely a great experience with the ambiance to match.
