One of the lunch sets. It was delicious!
Annie L.

Came here with a group after hiking so we were all pretty hungry. The food was excellent! The tempura was light and crunchy and not greasy at all. I ordered one of the sets and was so impressed. Everything was so delicious, healthy feeling and beautifully presented. The service was excellent. The staff was very attentive, very sweet and polite. I would definitely come here again if I'm in the area.

Family chose Ebisu as it is a hop skip and a jump to the Botanical Gardens as we had tickets to the Holiday Lightscape show by the way recommend skipping this (see my review on it) as it ends on January 4th. Back to my Ebisu review and as we've eaten here before another solid experience as the place was packed and fortunately we were seated as part of the first wave. Reminder to all who have not been here, everyone must be present before you are seated. No pictures this time as my previous reviews are pretty much what we always have. I did have the chirashi bowl which I never have ordered since my usual order of the salmon combo meal is pretty hearty and therefore wanted something on the lighter side. Pictured is the receipt and pretty much what we usually order when we come for a party of five sans the sake flight.

Their speciality rolls are our favourites. We order them every time we visit. Quality of food and service are consistently good.

Caterpillar Roll

Enjoyed coming here for an early dinner. Chirashi bowl was $37 for 15 pieces of sashimi -- All were fantastic, especially the yellowfin tuna and the yellowtail. Salmon also great, though rare that I get bad quality salmon sashimi these days. Didn't love the albacore¿ tuna (pale whiter one), as it was a bit fishier than I'd like, but nothing a dash of wasabi can't fix. Also enjoyed caterpillar roll -- I tasted a hint of fishiness in the unagi towards the end, which makes me wonder if it isn't the most fresh of their offerings (ie frozen and not caught), but still enjoyed especially with the creaminess of that avocado. Would definitely come back for their chirashi! It does take awhile to come out but was worth the wait. Also, they take Apple Pay, which is always a plus!

Family Affair

Came here on a Sat evening and were seated within 10 minutes! Food came out quickly, and our waitress was very helpful when we were ordering our food/drinks. Very happy with the service My table ordered the Deluxe Combination 10 pc nigiri sushi set, along with a Family Affair roll and Spider roll. We were all in agreement that the miso soup that started our meal off was just extra incredible for some reason lol, and overall we really enjoyed the meal. The fish tasted fresh, the rice/add-ins supporting the fish (incl wasabi, ume paste, etc) was balanced just right, and the rolls (especially the family affair) added a flair to our meal as well with some extra flavors beyond just the fish.

Fun place to eat. Waited about 20 minutes and sat at the bar for two. Our sushi chef was so nice and funny, and he chatted with us through the meal. We ordered the specials of the night, which seemed very worth it. For $43 I got a house salad, soba, sashimi, tempura, an egg custard cup, and dessert! The menu is pretty extensive, and everything looked very tasty. We will certainly be back!

Chirashi

Delicious chirashi & great quality sushi. The sashimi cuts are huge. The service was pretty fast. I got take out, they really package it really well and make sure to have napkins and utensils inside. Definitely will come back to try other sushi from here.

Lobster Roll or Chefs Special
Debbie P.

Came here with a friend for dinner and we had to wait ~40 minutes for a seat at the bar. Because we sat at the bar, we ordered the sushi from the sushi chef directly and ordered the other hot foods with a waiter. We ordered: - agedashi tofu - lobster roll (special) - dinosaur feet (special) - oyakodon (miso soup came with it) Our favorites were the dinosaurs feet and lobster roll! So good and unique. We'd skip the oyakodon next time and try something else

Catepillar and Double Hamachi

My favorite sushi place in Inner Sunset. The swamp roll and QP are my favorite, but everything always tastes so fresh! It's a cute place and always have rotating specials. Definitely would recommend Ebisu.

$150 sushi platter - tray 1 of 2
Jocelyn L.

This review is for their sushi platters. I think it's a little secret that they don't do well with advertising. This is a fun option for a dinner party, which we did for Christmas Eve this past year. There are two trays to pick from, $100 or $150. We opted for the $150, which fed us 4 people with leftovers - a 5th person would have worked too. I called a few days ahead of time (not how sure how far in advanced you'd have to reserve) and paid on the spot. The sushi quality was perfect - didn't taste like it was made the night before. It was the same quality as we've had at the restaurant. It was such a deal too, because it basically came out to about $40/person! You can't make substitutions, but that was fine with us. Also some of the rolls are vegetarian, which was a little disappointing, but they were still fun to try. Already ordered another sushi tray for my next dinner party!!!

Lunch Special combos A or B (w chilled noodles esp.) are A+. Salmon (pictured) or tempura (pre-seasoned/no dipping sauce required or wanted)

Been going here since I was a kid. Top quality fish, creative but traditional appetizers and dishes, fun rolls and the lunch specials are worth the full lunch break.

Spent the night at one of my friends and we could not decide what we were craving for dinner. Finally we decided you could never go wrong with sushi. A quick walk down the street and you will run into a bunch of restaurants. Ebisu was what we decided on. The space is tiny - but what can you really expect in a SF restaurant. We were seated quickly for a Wednesday night and the place was packed at 7:00pm. Leave it to the girlies to not be able to decide what they want on the menu. I ordered nigiri and a bento box because I thought it would be the easiest. The bento box was HUGE. You get 2x protein which I was very surprised about (perhaps I didn't read the description correctly) but it was perfect! We ended up sharing the bento and were stuffed. I was very excited to see that uni was also on the menu. I cannot wait to come back to bring my parents here. Good service, good food, and good company.

Came here for my friend's birthday and it was so good! We got several rolls and they were all so good. The fish is good quality and super fresh. The staff was super sweet and the ambiance is very cozy and cute.

Ask the Community - Ebisu

Do they cook with alcohol (like wine)?

I'm sure they cook certain items with mirin which is a Japanese rice wine and has a low alcohol content.

Where do you park your car?

Street metered parking or a parking lot a half a block away.

Do they serve bento during lunch for dine-in?

Yes, they do serve bento box for dine-in lunch and it is large. Note they do not make substitutions. Salmon bento box comes with beef. You can have it removed nor substitute it. Waiter said it causes too much confusion for the kitchen.

Is Ramen only served for lunch or can we order Ramen for dinner?

Lunch only! Sitting here now and they have a sign posted on the wall

Does the Yelp waitlist ever work? On a Saturday it said 0 wait, but there was a wait when i arrived.

I went 2 weeks and it was working I went a few days and it wasn't. I'm not sure if they are getting rid of it or if it's just temporary

Do they have happy hour? If yes, what days/time?

No happy hour

Does the sushi have gluten-free options?

Sushi is made from rice, not wheat. So there is no gluten. If you are sensitive to gluten, I would think you should already know this.

Is there all you can eat sushi if so how much?

This is not a buffet

How long is the wait usually on a week day?

During the wk at lunch it's not too bad. Maybe 15min. They open at 11:30 so if you are there by 12noon no problem. Dinner is different. I recommend being there by5:30 especially if you want the Sushi bar. It's worth the wait. We drive from… Read more

We were seated pretty quickly on a Sunday evening, and there were a couple of other parties there. They had a sign advertising a special where you can order two items from a list and it comes with soup, salad, and rice, but we ended up just splitting two house special rolls - the Salmon Mango roll and Rock N Roll roll (tuna, avocado, spicy mayo). Both were delicious. I particularly liked the Salmon Mango roll - it was a perfect mix of sweet and savory. The rolls came with 8 pieces each and each piece was a good size, so it was plenty for two of us. I also got a Sapporo beer (bottle) to sip on. Overall, good experience - quick, efficient service and satisfying meal.

From the moment we sat down, the sushi train immediately caught everyone's attention. Once we submit our order in the iPad, the bullet style train brought the food to our table. It made the whole meal feel interactive and exciting, especially for a family night out. The robot food server was also a huge hit at our table. It added a fun, modern touch and definitely made the experience memorable. It's not every day your food is delivered by a robot and train. It brought a lot of smiles and conversation to the table. On top of the entertainment, the food itself was fresh and delicious. There was a great variety of sushi to choose from, and everything we tried was flavorful and well-prepared. I think the combination of good food, unique service, and a lively atmosphere made this a standout dining experience. If you're looking for a place that's both fun and tasty especially with family, Hikari Sushi & Bar is definitely worth a visit!

Fun, efficient, simple. Nothing to add…read more I've been to a few conveyor belt, boat-sushi type spots in Japantown and I always end up back at Tenroku! Is it the best sushi ever? Not quite. I think expectations are usually low when going to these types of spots but given the quality and price, it's actually pretty surprising. I usually stop by for dinner on weeknights. It can get busy sometimes but I've never waited more than 10-15 minutes. Service is quick and friendly. The goal is to get you seated and taken care of right away. Once you sit down, it's game on. Chefs are busting out all different kinds of dishes for you to try. They also take requests if there's something on the menu you'd like to try. I love not having to commit to a roll and being able to try a ton of different things. Admittedly, I keep coming back for the seared walu. The plate color lets you know the price of what you're getting. Most plates come with 2-4 pieces and run from $3 - $8. I can make this dinner as cheap or expensive as I'd like!

Courteous, polite service. They provided a wet towelette for us to wipe our fingers and instructed us to eat each sushi piece in one bite. The temperature of the fish was not too warm and not too cold. I loved the variety of sashimi offered, especially the charred ones! Out of all the dishes, the smoked trout with the egg yolk and the Hokkaido scallop stood out. Only dish I wasn't too crazy about was the squid and pickled lotus root/eggplant, which was shocking to me since I normally love all those things! The texture of the pickled lotus was starchy.
