If I worked nearby, I'd probably eat at Ebiko for lunch every day. The fish is fresh, good portion, and the prices reasonable for the quality you get when you want something on the go. I got the Bara Chirashi, which came with bluefin tuna, salmon, ikura, snow crab, and tamago egg over a bed of rice. Every bite was fresh and satisfying. My husband opted for the Seared Aburi Salmon Don and the Tuna Chutoro Don, and both were equally delicious. During our stay in San Francisco, there were actually two Ebiko locations within walking distance of our hotel, which made it a convenient option whenever we were craving sushi. Fantastic takeout nigiri lunch stop!! The quality is very good, and the staff is so nice despite being overwhelmed with the hundreds of customers & orders they get every day! It's a cute little store with a line out the door & down the block. They have lots of sushi options, and fun Japanese snacks & drinks! You can't go wrong here. Everything from the seaweed salad to the omakase nigiri platter is fantastic. I would recommend the salmon aburi, unagi roll, unagi nigiri, snow crab roll, salmon avocado roll, spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon roll... pretty much everything. Assuming it's something you actually like, you wont find a more convenient way to get solid quality sushi in the city! My office regularly stops here because it's consistently amazing. Finally checked out Ebiko in SF after seeing it all over my feed. I've been wanting to try this place forever because the photos look so yum and I finally had a chance to stop by. The store was totally packed with a super long line, seems like a lot of people come here for a quick lunch. I just went with the classic combo that everyone seems to get: the Omakase nigiri ($16.99) and the seared salmon aburi ($12.50). I will say, the box looks really pretty and is definitely instagrammable, and the sushi tasted fresh but that's basically it. Honestly nothing was too standout or impressive about the flavors. It's also not even that cheap for the price and the portion you get, so I feel like the hype is mostly just because of the look. Would I go back? Maybe if I'm in the area, but I wouldn't wait in that line again. read more

Amazing take out sushi place! Chirashi bowls, omakase and sushi rolls were all delicious. I recommend ordering/picking up during lunch time since I noticed the fish tastes fresher during that time. My wife and I ordered for dinner a couple times and fish was darker and not as fresh (still not bad though) 4/5 for inconsistency, but still our go to take out spot. read more

If I could have Ebiko every day for lunch, I would. The fish is so fresh, the rolls are delicious and balanced, and the price are very reasonable for the quality. I find that there can be a long line around lunch hours, but it goes pretty fast since it's grab and go. If you don't want to brave the line, I also recommend ordering online for quicker service. The workers are kind, the food is incredible, it's just the perfect spot to spend your lunch break. read more

I have been to Ebiko many times and i can confidently say i REALLY enjoy their sushi! LOVE the take out style and how convenient it is for us corporate people in FiDi! I am able to walk in grab whatever sushi I want and leave to eat in the office. I will say this place has picked up in terms of busy-ness, so if you go late in the lunch hour there is less options. My favorite is the Salmon Aburi! SO GOOD AND FRESH! The price is also very decent considering its SF... and its sushi! Straightforward grab and go sushi concept downtown near Salesforce area. Ordered ahead of time online. Was able to place the order day of, like 30 min before when it would be ready, which was convenient. Arrived around 11:30am and it was pretty busy with people grabbing lunch. Plenty of sushi, nigiri, etc also available in their fridges so you don't necessarily need to pre-order. Pre-ordering is more efficient though as they have a pre-order fridge for you to just grab your order. Our bag was fully loaded with our order, soy sauce, chopsticks, and to-go ramekins of wasabi and ginger. - bara chirashi - sushi rice topped with bluefin tuna, salmon, ikura, snow crab, tamago, tobiko and ikura. Fish tasted fresh, with a clean flavor. Proportion of fish to rice was well balanced. Only $18.50 and includes more premium ingredients so I definitely think it's a pretty good deal. read more

I've gone here more times than I can count at this point since starting my job at the Tower. I recommend avoiding it around 11-12, when the line can wrap around and look ridiculous. I always manage to wait less than 5 minutes whenever I go around 1:30-2, and they're still putting out a lot. The salmon aburi is a MUST, and the Chirashi bowls -- such great variety and so fresh. It can get a little pricey for an everyday lunch type of thing, but it's a good deal for great quality sushi on the go. read more

Insane quality for grab and go sushi. Stopped by quickly during my lunch break, and it was surprisingly empty on a Friday 1pm - I was able to walk in and check out without a wait. At peak hours of 11-12, I've heard it gets a lot busier. They have a sizeable selection of sushi and nigiri which is fresh (and aesthetic haha). Compared to other takeout sushi spots in the city, this one can be considered pricier, but honestly a convenient option in FiDi. I also had their red bean mochi, which was quite massive (around the size of my fist) and super fresh and chewy. I'm glad I don't go to the FiDi office often, as this would be a danger to my wallet! read more

Don't let the line scare you since it moves pretty quickly. That said, I've heard ordering for pickup is even easier and faster, so that's definitely something I'll try next time. I stopped by around 11:30am and the line wasn't too bad at first, but it quickly built up behind me, so timing definitely helps. Once inside, everything looked so good that I wanted to order half the menu. I ended up getting the bara chirashi, spicy tuna roll, and California roll, and all of them were excellent. I was especially surprised (in a good way) that the California roll used real crab instead of imitation, which you don't see very often. You can really tell they use high-quality, fresh ingredients, and the sushi tasted incredibly fresh. I'll definitely be back especially since I work on the same block! read more

Really wanted to love this place. Doordashed an order of the omakase nigiri and the cuts weren't that good. Some pieces were stringy and fishy. Ended up not finishing it. I did go with my friend before where she ordered the food in person and those cuts were good and she enjoyed her food. Long line that goes quick during weekday lunch hours. They provide very nice disposable chopsticks. The place is a grab and go. Didn't have an area to dine in if I recall. Unfortunate, as I suspect I may have gotten a bad box. read more

I was so happy when Ebiko opened in SoMa because this style of grab-and-go sushi has a special place in my heart. Back when I was at Cal, my college spot was Tokyo Sushi/Ebiko in Oakland, and I'd trek out every three weeks for takeout because it was just that good. From what I understand, Tokyo Sushi is run by the mom and Ebiko is the son's spot, and you can feel the shared roots but different personalities: Tokyo has a more homey, old-school feel, while Ebiko is cleaner, sleeker, and a bit more modern. When I'm in the city for work, Ebiko is one of my favorite lunch options. The omakase nigiri set is my go-to -- super filling, great cuts, and the wasabi they give you is extra umami and pungent in the best way, which I love with my fish. Depending on my mood, I'll add baked salmon nigiri if I'm feeling a little extra, or keep it simple with maki like negihama and sake rolls. I've also grabbed the negitoro bowls to take home, and they hold up really well in the fridge for dinner. It's definitely on the pricier side (expect around $30-$40 for lunch), but for takeout sushi, this is about as good as it gets -- miles better than any supermarket sushi in the South Bay. read more

We came in on a weekday around noon, fully expecting a line but there wasn't any! Pretty well stocked and we grabbed a chirashi bowl & a 7 pc nigiri. Came out to about $30 something. Pretty good sushi honestly for a work takeout spot. Fish was buttery & fresh and had a good ratio of rice and fish. I am so sorry but I was so disappointed by this place!!! I thought all the reviews gave a lot of hope but at the end of the day this was just not that good to me :( I appreciate this was affordable but even then I wasn't happy because I didn't think the quality was great. The secret is definitely to order ahead online versus going there because the line gets CRAZY during lunch. I got the chef nagiri and spicy salmon roll and I just thought it was all okay. The nagiri was really disappointing in texture and taste and didn't impress me and my roll was just okay. I unfortunately wouldn't come back was just super disappointed. read more

With eating out costing an arm and a leg these days, it's no wonder the line for Ebiko's fresh, affordable sushi is as long as it gets. Great news tho, the line moves quickly thanks to the neatly packaged sushi being prepped in advance and constantly restocked as the hungry masses stream in. Def get here as close to noon as possible (or even earlier!). This time around I tried their mini uni don ($8ish) and their salmon aburi ($12ish). Sushi to-go for my FIDI workers! Tried this sushi place near the salesforce tower and it didn't disappoint! The fish was as fresh and tender as it looks, though the price is pretty average for sushi you'd get at a restaurant. I haven't found many places to get raw sushi when I'm craving it at work, so I'll definitely be coming here again! Fast and a great deal! Besides the chirashi, the most expensive item is omakase nigiri ($17), which is incredibly affordable as far as sushi options go. I'm a big fan of the seared salmon. It has an unexpected smoky flavor. There was a line when we arrived around 11:40am, but it moved very quickly. We waited ~5-10 minutes max. It's a grab and go situation. Don't worry about sushi running out - the start are always refilling the shelves. I didn't see any seating, so plan to eat elsewhere. Amazing is. Great way to start for this review. Ebiko has the freshest fish of any sushi restaurant around. They are cooking and preparing all day long. And they are busy. So nothing sits on the shelf too long. It's a small shop but don't let that get in the way. The best way is to preorder online. They'll have it waiting with your name in it in a cooler box. I'm a fan of their poke bowl. I usually get a roll as well. It might not be the cheapest, but who wants to take a chance on cheap sushi?! :). 5-stars for Ebiko for lunch. read more

The service was on point and they even had a cute signed postcard wishing us a happy anniversary along with a complimentary welcome beverage. Such a sweet gesture! My husband did not shy away from ordering and I felt like we tried almost everything on the menu. Their fish was very fresh and the sushi rice was paired very well. There wasn't anything that we tried that we didn't like. Their uni toast was a highlight! So much so that we ordered it twice! Honestly I'm not sure when we'll be back as kidless date nights are super rare for us. Parking out here can be tough and we took a lyft in. But if anyone is looking for a solid sushi recommendation in the mission district, this tops the list!

They even put a spicy sauce on the side of one of the katsu plates when we mentioned that my dad couldn't handle all that haha. This cozy spot mainly focuses on katsu plates, but I like how they had off menu or specials to choose from if you'd like another option. I will say though them katsu plates were just chef's kiss. The meat is pounded thin enough where it's still juicy and tender, but doesn't affect the exterior from being crunchy and a bit flaky. Nothing was dry here yallll! I also like how it already comes with miso soup and salad. Huge fan of that Hamachi Truffle special though. Think of a citrusy flavor from the ponzu, fresh fish, a bit of micro greens, and a thin slice of jalapeño that just ~works~ on a cute wooden spoon that you want to steal I could honestly eat like 5 spoons of this. I'd skip on the calamari as it was kind of skimpy to share with a large group. Only note was that their fried katsu curry was a bit underwhelming with having more slices of carrots than potato! Wait time: Not an extremely long wait between ordering and receiving food and drink. A buzzer is given to you which rings when your food is completed. Food: The yuzu salmon onigiri had a decent serving of salmon inside and on top of the rice. Good salmon flavor but slightly lacking in yuzu flavor. Chicken Curry onigiri: a mild curry flavor which again had a decent rice to chicken ratio. The chicken did taste slightly dry despite the curry sauce likely due to the nature of being a ground meat. Matcha Latte c Pistachio Cream was easily one of the best tasting matcha drinks I have had in SF. The matcha had a strong flavor and the pistachio cream did not overpower the taste of the matcha. There was a nice sweet, slightly salty, and pistachio flavor from the cream and the addition of the crushed pistachios was not a weird texture for the drink. I would definitely be interested in trying more of their matcha beverages due to quality and size of drink compared to cost.

The outdoor area gets pretty hot since it's similar to a greenhouse but nice for photos. We ended up coming back inside since it was too hot outside. The inside spots definitely fill up fast due to the AC and nice ambience but we were lucky someone had just left. Super nice spot to just chill or have a date!

Next the Miran Miyagi oysters were very fresh, I forgot what was in it, but there was some crunchy bits for texture and there was also a good kick of spice. The Hojicha Affogato was their dessert, and it was also great. It had dark chocolate gelato and a raspberry compote. I came back to try the Matcha Einspanner since I heard good things about it. I never had one before, but if they're all like this, then I love einspanners. It had a super thick whipped cream with a nice high quality matcha. The service was also very friendly. And since this is a bar/ cafe, it's super chill vibes.

Everything is done through an iPad at your table and the food comes out to you. They won't let you place a new order until your previous one has been delivered, which honestly is a smart system and helps with pacing so you don't over order right out of the gate. What sets this place apart from other AYCE spots is the variety. It's not just sushi. I do want to call out how much I appreciate the amount of savory pastries they have since I don't always want a sweet treat the moment I wake up. To note, Juniper is typically busy, but I have never waited in line for more than 10 minutes, even on weekends. They also have a lot of tables for seating, but because of the flow of people, it might be difficult to find a spot. Stop by here if you're around the area! They are also a sister shop of Saint Frank, so you can get some coffee while you're here as well.

All the pastries were crisp, with many buttery layers and were clearly well made but these two had the most flavor and stood out as offerings that are a bit more unique compared to other bakeries in the city. We also tried the black sesame kouign amann, which was more reminiscent of a morning bun type pastry, and the cubano and the ham and cheese croissants, which were good but just lacking a little in flavor. Overall, Juniper has excellent pastries, and I'll definitely be sure to grab a plain croissant next time to try it out as well - some pastries pack a bit more flavor than others but given how quickly the like moves I'll definitely be back again to try some of their othering offerings soon!
