Seated well before a rush, Waited over an hour for food. ordered a salad and wings. Wings were over cooked and under sauced ordered medium just in case and it was a snooze fest, tasted like they were fried in old oil. All food came out at the same time. One celery stalk and the 3 driest celery sticks you've ever seen, I bet I could have lit it on fire. No one in the party of three had a decent meal. Never again. read more

This was my 5th choice of somewhere to eat lunch. As I was passing through, I needed somewhere that was dine in and I was avoiding drive throughs. Ordered a cup of soup and an entrée. The lobster bisque is neither lobster or bisque. It is seafood sticks in an over thickened dairy product that may have had a sherry bottle waved over it. To call it nasty is to be kind. Before you wonder why I was ordering lobster that far from the coast, the hands-down best lobster bisque I have tasted so far was in a northern Maine county. A location better known for it's potatoes. The entrée was the Friday fried fish special. The fish was over cooked. The coleslaw and mac and cheese unremarkable but edible. Eben's Hearth may have hidden charms but I will not be looking for them. read more

This was probably one of the worse Meals I have had in a long time. I ordered a "local favorite" grilled Mesquite sandwhich. I asked the waitress what was on tap for draft beer,, she said we have 20 so pic one. We waited forever for the meal and we sat idle for 15 minutes with no drinks. The waitress blamed the bar for the long wait for the drinks. Once the food arrived the sandwhich was warm And the bread was soggy. We would have been better if at Burger King! Amazing hot wings. They also have a pretty good soup and salad bar. They have really good sandwiches some of which I have only seen there. They make an amazing Reuben. They have a wide variety of items on their menu. They have a nice variety of items for people that don't eat red meat. They have a decent captains platter and an even better broiled seafood platter. They have vegetarian lasagna that is good. They have some eggplant dishes that are quite nice as well. Couple of quick things. There are novelty restaurants where being sarcastic is funny and part of the personality of the place but having a kids menu that tells a kid to make sure they don't make a mess or your parents will be responsible to clean up is a bit tacky considering how there is nothing funny about this establishment. Next...food was mediocre at best. I ordered their seafood platter (whatever it was called) and the seafood was deep fried in really old grease clearly. It was gross tasting as the breading tasted like a million things all cooked together over the last 8 months. I didn't eat much past the shrimp. Will never eat there again. A mouse walked out of the kitchen. Staff were notified and tried to catch it..... with a bowl. Couldn't finish my meal, not even a discount. Health department notified. Food was not bad but not worth the filthy mice. There were plenty of people there and the mouse stopped for a snack under a bar stool at the bar during the middle of the day. My husband and I stopped in because we had heard that they had a nice breakfast. I ordered the omelet with onions, peppers, mushrooms, and broccoli, and asked if I might substitute the toast for home fries, to which the server said no. I kind of understand that, but when my husband ordered a combo that came with meat and asked to sub out the meat for home fries (because we are vegetarian), she said no again and offered no substitute. When one thinks of the North Country, with its rash of local farms, organic foods, and maple syrups, you'd expect to find many of those ingredients at established local restaurants. Not the case at Eben's Hearth: The syrup on the table was Kraft generic (in an individual package? really?) Same with the selection of honey and jams/jellies for toast. (Okay, so those are more standard in your breakfast-y kind of places, but again, its the North Country. EVERYBODY makes jam up here.) Moreover, the pancakes were reheated from flash frozen (again, really?) and had that overt, freezer-burn taste to them. Not exactly what visitors will leave impressed by when they invariably come to visit their kids at college. The service was slow even though it was not busy. It took someone a full minute to come and seat us when we entered even though there were two or three servers in the back at the bar talking. Prices were somewhat high for quality, atmosphere, and service. Probably won't be going back at all unless they improve quality, add some local ingredients, and offer more options or at least a vegetarian/vegan option for meat. I definitely see this as more of a bar restaurant as some of the other reviews have stated. Typical burgers and fried foods. Nothing special here. read more

Glad we planned 2 hours to be there. 5pm sat down, 530 we were offered drinks, 630pm got food. This place has always taken forever. I was hoping after being away for 4 years they would have figured something out about that. Waitress was very nice. Chicken sandwich was gross. It was over spiced, over cooked, and slimy. Waitresses are great, the try to accommodate, owner and cook on the other hand are a piece of work. I my mother ordered the flat iron steak tonight and It tasted off. The meat was going bad. It had no flavor to begin with which means you should've been able to taste the actual meat and it was not good. We mentioned it to the waitress who is awesome,and she went back and spoke to the cook and his answer was I bought the meat today it's fine we're not doing anything. I asked to speak to the owner and he refused to talk to me. What kind of service place refuses to talk to the customers. So another order only to be told another 5 minutes later that they didn't have that either. After the 20th minute waitin with no drink and no order being taken we split. Nice lady but horrible service. I'd have understood if they were busy but there was 8 people in the place with 2 servers. If you are looking for a nice sit down restaurant with quality food and service...save your time and money and pick another restaurant! I just returned from the worse experience ever at this place! I was part of a party of 6 which arrived at 11:35am, we were promptly seated and then ignored by every waitress for a good 15 minutes! No drink orders were taken nor could we even catch an eye of any of the servers! Finally about 20 minutes later our waitress finally comes to the table and asks if we are ready to order or just want her to get our drinks, since we all had more than enough time to peruse the menu we ordered both at once! Our food arrived and as usual the chicken on the sandwich I ordered was too tough to bite through, I had to do one of those bite and pull sideways manuevers to take a bite. Two at our table ordered the special of the day which was a hamburger special...both said their burgers were way over done! I was sitting beside one and could see how grossly over done it was! There were no other food complaints but our waitress was extremely slow, nice but slow and forgettful! I had to request straws for our sodas, these are normally handed out at the time the drinks are delivered, I had to ask not once but twice for a container for my leftovers and had to actually go up to the register after we had paid our bills because she had forgotten AGAIN to leave me a container. If you are looking for a nice place to eat in Potsdam...I would try elsewhere unless of course you don't mind being ignored by the wait staff! Oh and if it had been a very busy rockin' restaurant then the wait would have been understandable but it was half full at best and there were plenty of wait staff doing their best to ignore us! Will I go again? Probably, but not for a long while and definitely NOT if I only have 1 hour for lunch! read more

I know someone whose a frequent here, and I know why. The food here is wonderful. When I was here once, I ordered french toast (I think, or did I order my usual diner omelet?) and it tasted perfect. Ok, I only had a salad here but I stopped in when I saw the homemade desserts sign, only to find that half the desserts were not homemade. The big plus was the $3.50 margarita special, and it was so good. The menu was big as well as the portions of food I observed being served. I might go back for just a drink and a snack. Brought the Fam to give it a whirl on a visit to Clarkson University. It was OK. We had burgers, a chicken sandwich, and a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich. The fries were good the mac salad was dry. The portions were large. They charged for every drink. The service was good. I am not sure I would go back...maybe to try breakfast? read more

For the person who ordered the garden burger, if you go to a restaurant to order a garden burger (and aren't a vegetarian which you clearly are not) you don't know food. As for the chicken platter, was it really that hard to find? There 3 options for seasoning that are clearly stated in the menu... maybe you should learn to read before you trash everything and insult the people who went to the restaurant with an open mind. Now for the review, It's some of the best food you will get in the north country. The products used are fresh the black angus beef is a great product and the service 90% of the time is very good- Not every place you go will have perfect service every time. Being a waiter or a waitress is not an easy job and the staff at eben's is pretty damn good. Good food, good service and a good family setting with a sports bar feel. Consistent quality - especially with some of the new specials being put out by the kitchen. read more

My friends and I have enjoyed awesome breakfasts here!! The food is always hot, fresh, and comes out of the kitchen quickly. The prices are decent for struggling college students. I haven't been for lunch or dinner, but I definitely recommend breakfast. Our server was rudely accosted by some impatient customers and she handled the situation beautifully. read more

This place used to be pretty good, now it just plain sucks. My mom tripped on that step behind the bar and fell down hard-no one did anything-it was like it never even happened. I wrote to them so they would be aware and maybe make it more visible. They never contacted me-it's a lawsuit waiting to happen and I sort of hope someone pursues it. We went back again this year (not our choice-dining with friends who suggested it) and there was no change to the step. It takes forever to get food and the food is not even good anymore. Tonight I ordered a beer (out of the IPA i wanted) then I ordered motzarella sticks and a bacon cheese burger cooked medium well. Burger came out rare to medium rare and no motzarella sticks. I went here last week for the first time and will never return, absolutely horrible. We were sat at a table that very clearly hadn't been cleaned since crumbs, stains, and butter were all over our table. Our waitress brought us our utensils and grabbed every spoon knife and fork by the end you eat with rather than the handle, every waiter and waitress should know never to so that, it's filthy. She then brought us our drinks and grabbed every drink by the rim of the glass and gave none of us straws. The wait for the food wasn't very bad considering the amount of people in the resteraunt. The same can't be said about the food however, it was horrible. The plate of vegetables that came out were very obviously frozen vegetables that were heated in a microwave. My sandwich must have been finished before every one else's food because the cheese on it was hard and the dressing had been absorbed by the bread. The pickle was warm and soft and the side of mayonnaise I asked for was completely warm like someone had filled it hours earlier and just left it sitting out. This was a god awful place which I will never be going to again. read more
