2 days after getting his Name in the paper do to the hard work of his staff, Chef John lost his cool publically infront of a wedding.. scream at his staff for his own short comings.. He then called his right hand man and soon to be sous chef a "retard and told him to get the fuck out".. when Martin called him out for being unprofessional.. United helpers who runs the company had an investigation.. found him guilty and still Fired Martin instead.. his food is just classic basic Italian.. nothing original, all over priced.. mostly anything original came from Chef Kyle Mayette.. Had an excellent meal at the Gran-View this past week. The restaurant has hired an experienced dynamic Chef. The new menu ranges from small plates to Steaks and Seafood. Prices are reasonable for the quality and taste of the food presented. The chef is particular in sourcing high quality ingredients that when prepared has a unique taste. Some standouts: Seafood Chowder, Burrata cheese served with heirloom tomatoes and balsamic drizzle; petite filet mignon, and a wonderful gelato spumoni encased in a chocolate shell. I know the restaurant has had its ups and downs in recent months, but it is well recommended for a revisit or a first visit. We go here every time we're in town. The steak is the bomb. The house salad is so so fresh. The staff is always on it. And we get to look at the St. Lawerence river while we eat. Not just your ordinary hotel restaurant. Great bar and large parties are welcome. read more

We really enjoyed dinner here on the patio. We had a beautiful view of the St. Lawrence River and there was a nice breeze blowing from it. Flies though, really kind of put a damper on our dinner. I know~we were outside and this is beyond their control. We started out with drinks and they brought rolls. My husband ordered a salad which had their apple cider vinegarette dressing on it and it was very good! I ordered the chicken Parmesan and savored every bite! It was a huge piece of chicken. I did ask for some more sauce though because I felt like there just wasn't quite enough but it was cooked perfectly and very scrumptious! My husband had the roast beef sandwich with fries. It's served with au ju. It was good but to me the meat had a funny off taste to it. Service was excellent and we really enjoyed our meal! We will be back if we are ever in the area again! read more

Rachel is the best waitress ever! We just moved to the area and we've been here three times already. The food is great, the view is unbeatable, but hands down, Rachel is reason enough to come eat here. She's prompt, friendly, laughs at my dad's awkward jokes that only he gets, and gives great recommendations for food and drinks. I've gotten the Chicken Saltembocca every time, and the broth is good enough to drink in a glass. Can't recommend this place enough, and can't wait to go again. read more

We stayed at the hotel and had dinner there last night. How lovely - the atmosphere, service and food. Clam chowder special was creamy and delicious, their house salad with apple cider vinaigrette- superb. My son had the gnocchi and my husband had the chicken saltimbocca - all top notch. Dessert was a deliciously gooey brownie sundae. Recommend a trio out of your way to eat at this gem. read more

This restaurant is connected to my hotel the walk over was easy and then I was able to get a table outside with a great view of the St Lawrence river. My daughters and I did an overnight with dinner and it was terrific! The room was spotless with a wonderful river view. Dinner was amazing with delightful live music that was soothing and perfect with a quiet dinner. Don't miss the gran view salad with chicken or the French onion soup. This place has an amazing buffet on the weekend. Super super tasty. Sliced Prime Rib, seafood, good chowder. For the North Country its a little pricey, but its well worth it. Not sure why Yelp wants us to treat Gran View and Quality inn as the same entity -but Gran view is great anyway. read more

Typically Yelp never fails me when I travel but unfortunately this time it did. First off the menu that yelp connects you to has changed, not a bid deal right? But they removed the 4oz Filet and only offer the 8oz. There were roughly 6 other parties in the restaurant on a Tuesday. I waited 15 min to order, another 35for my food and when it did arrive the $36 filet was lukewarm. Definitely not worth the money. I hope it was just a bad night for them. Probably the best "fine dining" that there is in the area, but I can't say that I'm super impressed, nor do I feel like it was worth the price. It's priced like fine-dining in a city, and while the decor definitely matches that price point, it's just not the same thing. When I'm 4 hours away from any major city, I don't expect to be paying the same prices I would in Boston or New York. Pricing aside, the food was fine, but definitely not amazing, especially for $25-30 per entree. I had a pesto that while perfectly adequate, had some weird flavors in it. My boyfriend had a chicken parmesan that he was very pleased with, but I question whether that warranted the price. The best thing I think we had was the spinach artichoke dip appetizer. I found it delicious...there's a little hint of lemon in it which I found to be really pleasant and surprising. The obvious perk with this restaurant is the location next to the river. The view is beautiful and their outdoor patio really allows you to enjoy it when the weather is nice. If I was in the area and needed to find some fine dining, sure I could imagine ending up back here, simply due to the lack of options. But I would definitely not go out of my way. read more

Good for area- it is right on the river so a nice view- not crowded..lots of space outside...great restaurant next door for dinner. Our room was cozy and clean. Yes our cell phones were connected to Canada so we used the house phone to make local calls- could not text or call as it was a Canadian tower so will address that with our carrier- but we had free wi-fi - that was fast and good. The free breakfast was fair...lucky I like yogurt & fresh fruit- the coffee stunk....very weak and not gourmet! The Gran-View is one of my favorite restaurants in NY state. The food is always delicious, and the staff are friendly. I prefer the steak and chicken dishes. The views truly are "grand". The river looks spectacular from inside and outside the restaurant. Highly recommend! read more

I used to eat here several years ago. My favorites were the Chicken Marco Polo and their Chicken Cordon Bleu, very tasty all with fresh ingredients. The service is good. The dinners are a bit on the pricy side for this area. They have a well stocked bar and a fairly decent view. read more

I would give this place 10 stars. We had our wedding here in 2015 and received nothing but outstanding service and assistance. Lou went above and beyond to make sure our day was perfect for not just us but our family and guest. He made sure everyone was where they were suppose to be and everything was in place. When we ran short on food, he told his staff to take from the restaurant to ensure our wedding went well. He altered his procedures around our desires. And although I'm sure he had multiple weddings every weekend that summer he never once just made me feel like a number, I felt as if he was invested into my wedding as we were, like we were the only people he was worried about throughout the whole planning process. Great food. More fancy than other places in the area but still casual enough to bring the family.

We stayed at this place twice. Both times the rude male clerk at hotel locked my credit card up so we couldn't use it. He entered the exp date wrong. The first time it happened a good friend let us use her card so we did not have to sleep in the car. The second time the same idiot puts my card through w wrong info. He did not give me a chance to get my card out. Then he proceeds to cancel our reservations and tells us to go to another hotel. He was very rude. Hotel is beautiful and everyone else was very nice except for this rude moron. He kept saying he did nothing wrong. The manager has been notified of his rudeness and was quite mad. Not sure if I want to go back if I have to deal with this moron ! read more
