Stopped at the Fish Bone Cafe for breakfast ... washing into the cafe it was obvious I picked the wrong time, the place was packed. No bar to sit at so I went to the only open table but it had a coffee tumbler on it. I looked around and a gentleman said can I help you and I said yes I was going to sit here but wasn't sure if someone was already here - he said "that's mine" and please go ahead (I guess he might be the owner). He asked if I wanted coffee and immediately brought me a cup and a menu. A couple minutes later the waitress asked if I was ready to order... I was and the order was placed and immediately was dropped off in the kitchen. I couldn't get over how everyone there treated everyone in the place like a friend. Pretty unique, and cool in my book. Ordered two eggs, meat (sausage links) home fries and toast. $11. Bill with coffee and tax just over $15. Great meal, excellent service, clean place and they know how to handle a crowd. read more

I came on a day where the special was chicken and biscuits. That was very good. You can order a single or full portion. My husband didn't care for the fried seafood dish. There are two seated areas. The place was clean. The service waa nice. They make great pies. I loved the complementary blueberry crumb bar. Very rich with butter but so good. read more

I have heard good things about The Fishbone cafe. So of course I had to try it.. Disappointment is what I experienced. Though the service was OK the food was over fried to say the least and the 15.99 for the Pail o fish which contained mostly chicken and fries with 2 pieces of shrimp and 3 chunks of over fried haddock which was almost like jerry . The slaw was bland for the 13.99 fishery on Friday. My dates dinner was overcooked as well and the haddock was dry. Fried is the only option .. I give it a rate of one star. Came here for dinner and breakfast the next day. friendly and good service. Grilled cheese sandwich was perfect and Friday's special was also good. Very good home made blueberry pie. 30$ for two people was a very a decent price for good food and good service. Breakfast was good we took basic sunny aide up with bacon sausage links and home made toast. It was good and perfectly cooked. Good service again. I would definitely recommend this place. read more

It is a cute little cafe, and by little I mean seating capacity is under 30. I've heard really good things about this place and they have a different special every night. We went on Italian night, however upon being seated we were informed they were out of their specials when we arrived at 6:30, not a big deal. Their specials are typically available from 5pm until 8pm. There was one waitress for the entire cafe which wasn't even half full, she was a young girl, perhaps high school or college age and was not very friendly. The service definitely left something to be desired. I ordered the Black Lake Sandwich, which the menu claimed to be their signature dish. It was ok. The sandwich is fried perch filets, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and their special sauce on homemade bread and was served with stale corn chips. The homemade bread was delicious. The perch filets however were over fried, and the sauce seemed to be a very tart tartar sauce. Not my favorite but it wasn't bad. The sandwich is huge so you will not go home hungry. There was nothing bad about my experience but nothing particularly good either. Perhaps I just caught them on an off day. read more

My husband and I eat here every visit to Black Lake, We have breakfast normally, lunch a few times. The food is always delicious, it is always freshly prepared and not sitting under heat lamps, service is prompt and people could not be nicer. It is our go to place to eat. read more

When we're at the lake for a week or two, we always stop by the Fish Bone Cafe for a few meals. If we don't go there for our fish fry on Friday night (my favorite fish fry out of at least a dozen places I go each year for fish fries) then we stop in on Saturday night for the prime rib dinner. Every prime rib I've had there was cooked perfectly (I order mine medium rare), and I couldn't improve upon the seasoning. The homemade pies for dessert (their blueberry pie, made from wild blueberries is my absolute favorite from any restaurant anywhere) are excellent. The service is always friendly, and is usually very quick - sometimes if I come off the water mid-afternoon and need a quick lunch, I'll order a fish balls bucket or just some fries, and it's done in no time. The place always appears to be clean, and when you get a glance into their kitchen, it appears clean in there too. read more

To begin the fish bone cafè advertises as a place with big portions but as I found out today with the "big island buzzard bait bowl" they do not follow through with there statement. While I can not deny it was relatively good some of the homefries were to thick cut witch cause them to be cold and hard in the center. The Italian bread is the way to go with it but that was really the highlight of the meal. We did go for breakfast so coffee is a big thing among us and even tho I do not drink it I was told that it's not that great either.. and while I can look past homefries that are to thick cut or coffe that is not all that great when it comes to drinks I need a endless bottom . I drink quite a bit with my meals and the fish bone cafe does not offer that , they only offer bottled soda which for a place that seems like they want to be a real restaurant that's not a way to win over customers . The one thing they do have to offer is a great view of black lake as they are right on the water. Overall if your driving by and very hungry it will do but if u want a good meal keep on driving and go to the rondette in Clayton ny, worth the drive and then some read more

Was staying at a cabin nearby and found this place with Yelp. Even with limited options, I'm so glad I gave it a shot! American style food; today's special was turkey dinner - so much food! I couldn't even finish it! Came with two sides, a roll, and even a cookie. Great coffee if you're looking for coffee in the area. They even had baked goods. The inside is clean and well decorated with friendly staff. I was so pleasantly surprised! Make sure you stop here if you're looking for a hot meal near Black Lake. read more
