They still have framed art and most of it is cool abstract and contemporary stuff, they say they still can get the old stuff if you want. All kinds of non framed stuff for your walls and other homes decor stuff like vases and wall sculpture. They have all kinds of cool gift stuff now, martini glasses and Michael Godard plates (the guy who paints live olives) Adn the prices seemed to be reasonable, more than something you buy at Target but much cooler! I am closing on a loft downtown in February and this is the place I am using to decorate it.

There is such a good vibe within, as owner Mallory is a friendly, kind person who has a lot of unique, hand-made, terrific items. She's a Story City native and a UNI grad, and she fully supports and recommends some nearby shops. I especially loved her greeting cards, candles, charcuterie boards, and cookbooks. The shop is in its fifth year and is thriving. I appreciated the fair pricing and overall quality of the products. We will add Des Moines Mercantile to our stops on future visits to Des Moines.

When you open the door, you meet a perfectly delightful and friendly shop owner. There is a wonderful variety of merchandise that would please a diverse array of shoppers....jewelry, clothing, kitchen items, large assortment of beautiful French tablecloths, home decor and much more. I bought two great necklaces made from Tagua seeds from Ecuador. I just love them and have received many compliments when I wear them. They are so attractive and unique. I also purchased a gorgeous rectangular French tablecloth in blues and yellows and some cute kitchen towels. In my shopping I also acquired a stylish top with a lacy edge and a fishnet type top to go with it. The shopkeeper also has many artistic wind chimes for your patio. Mine has a metallic dragonfly and colorful beads. If you can't make it to her shop, she also has a stall at the awesome Des Moines Farmers Market every Saturday for 6 months of the year. My intentions were to make a backside painting I've seen other women do all over the internet. Apparently, this displeased the cashier because for my buttons, which were clearly marked 2.99 each, she charged me $9.98 for the buttons. A naughty tax because I wasn't painting the correct thing? For a "Christian" store, you do not behave Christ like in any way. Jesus accepted all the weirdos: lepers, prostitutes, the weak and marginalized. I should not be overcharged because my project is "unacceptable." I will never walk into another of your stores again.

World Market carries a TON of chai mixes and teas that come to much less than $7 a drink. Lol While the store is fun to browser the online site is user friendly and often offers 15% off for an in store pick up order...which is exactly what I did last night. I purchased three different varieties of David Rio chai mixes and some gummy peach rings with tajin, chiles, and limon. I placed the order online at about 200 PM and it was pulled and ready by 430 PM. Your mileage may vary. On arriving at the store I headed up to a register and let the employee know I was there to pick up an online order. It was pulled and brought to me quickly. The staff is friendly and parking is easy. And there are a great group of adjacent businesses and restaurants nearby if you are in the mood to shop a little more... World Market is a great place to just kill some time. Especially for a foodie! I work just a few blocks away so it's nice and convenient. The online system make it so easy! Almost too easy...

When I walked in, they showed me where to get the pottery, how to use the glaze paint, and an instruction card with how to paint it! I chose a mug, and painted potted plants all along the bottom. I may not be a great or even good artist, but it was nice to try something new! You pay for the time and the piece, so prices will vary and they are labeled under the pottery pieces. I painted a regular mug, and for spending an hour and half, I only paid less than $30. Highly recommend!
