People who enjoy supporting local artist should head over to Five Monkeys. I was able to venture over on a Wed afternoon. The street out front is being redone and hindering the traffic, however I found it worth the stop. Don't let it stop ya. There are quiet a few different local artist who have their items up for sale here. I took a nice long time in checking out all the different items. The owner was quite nice and we talked a little bit about what the store has to offer. I found many items. I found paintings, drawings, jewelry, bath bombs, art books and much more. Along with the art store there is a record shop that is sharing the space. There was music being played. You can purchase older stereo sets and record players. I really liked the options they have and I now have some really good ideas for early Christmas shopping. I think ill be back soon to check out what I can find. read more

This place is really cool! I found Five Monkeys through Yelp after searching art boutiques. I'm from out of town and have been working in Des Moines for the last few months. I have started collecting local paintings from the places I visit and was desperate to find a piece from Iowa. Five Monkeys did not disappoint! This place is adjoined to a music store that sells vinyl records. Five Monkeys features clothing, paintings, jewelry, pottery, and other local trinkets. A lot of the jewelry is very unique and different. Many of the pieces from the various designers looked like one-of-a-kind items. I opted for a pair of glass earrings and a painting called "The Little One", which I could be wrong, but may have been painted by the owner of the boutique. She was very helpful and friendly. The painting was just what I was looking for! In the back of the store, there is a paint-your-own-ceramics studio, where people can pick out items to paint and then pick them up after they've been fired in the kiln. I thought that was really cool, and saw everything back there from unicorns to mugs to tiki shot glasses. I wish I had known about this place months ago, but I'm glad that I at least went there before leaving town. If you haven't been to Five Monkeys, then you need to go! read more

Great art store that supports a wide range of local artist! Dina the owner is super sweet and does art classes as well! She just loves when people can be creative! I got to sit in on an art class the other day and it was a blast! She let the inner artist come out of you, I loved how this was not a paint by numbers kinda of thing... she gave just enough direction to let the creativity flow. The store has everything from Jewelry to big canvas pieces! Would be a great spot to find a unique gift or something local! She also offers classes to learn how to make stuff for the amateur as well as for kids... I just was there and made a click out of an old record. It was a blast. Not only is it a great place but the entire area has many cute shops to visit!
