Snake Tongue (Sansevieria) and Umbrella (Shefflera) Plants. Matching pots also purchased at AT.

I am not a person that has a green thumb, but since I first walked into Art Terrarium, I have been slightly obsessed with plants. I came here to get a gift for my husband for our 12th anniversary, and with the help of an incredible employee, ended up picking a few plants and vases that I thought would work well. As I was leaving, I saw another plant that caught my eye, but brushed it off since I had already gotten what I needed. My husband LOVED those two plants... Flash forward two days later, and I find that I am still thinking about the "plant that got away". So, I ended up going back to buy that for my husbands new office... Then I came in a week later with a plant I somehow managed to keep alive at work for a few months, and bought a new pot and had it replanted... Then went in for Valentine's Day to get two similar ZZ plants for our apartment... I can't stop... and I likely won't stop. Aside from the incredible selection of beautiful plants, the staff here (I've worked with three different people at this point), are knowledgeable, helpful, will help you pot the plants you pick, and also give instructions on how to care for them. Also worth noting that if you have a plant that needs repotting, there is a Repotting Bar there, where you can use the soil, charcoal, rocks, etc. to make sure your plant is leaving in prime condition. Depending on how large the plant is, this service is $2 - $4. That deal is outrageous. I'm obsessed and have no doubt you will likely become obsessed as well once you step in.

Plants and Art... possibly the two of the best things that give the world beauty. Now you can have both in one store! The Art Terrarium is really rad, if you are looking to spruce up your house with a little mother nature or art, this is your spot! I got to experience the Art Terrarium at a pop up shop at the Street Heat Festival! I was so impressed how they made a space on a concrete jungle, filled with beauty and relaxation! Just think how they could help make your home beautiful! So impressed!

This is a funky plant centric joint. They have all kinds of plants and pots. Plus I think you can do your own repotting! The owners are delightful, well versed on plant care. They put me at ease and gave me the tools and confidence to be a successful plant owner... I just love local business owners. The personal touch is impressive! It is totally worth a trip to Art Terrarium. This will be a place you will fall in love with!

    My happy plant!

This is such a super fun store. Especially seeing all the greenery and fun bright! They have local art and pottery and are very knowledgeable about their plants and keeping them alive and what will work best in your home. They have air plants, house plants, cactus, succulents, fairy garden supplies, ivy, etc. it was so fun being able to re-plant my plant right in store then take it home with clear care directions! I can't wait to come back to maybe get a plant for my office!!

Discovered this place at a Yelp Elite event and was blown away at the knowledge the owners had. They were very personable and had a wide variety of plants and pottery. Prices are very competitive. I just signed up to do some of their workshops!

A plant lover's dream! Art Terrarium has a huge and well organized selection of houseplants and pots to match. They have it all....large, small, pet friendly, easy to care for, cacti, you name it. Don't have a green thumb? Stop in anyways just to check out their art gallery! This place is hands down one of my favorite stores in Des Moines.

Art Terrarium is my favorite. I am a self-proclaimed plant lover but I love this shop for more than just the plants. It has a very laid-back, welcoming vibe. The staff are always available to answer questions or help point in the right direction but also do not rush you while you check out allllll of the options! I love the focus on local and handmade, both in plants and planters. I have purchased multiple gifts here, for others and myself! Additionally, they always have something new to check out so there is a constant reason to go back! They switch out the local artwork, have a variety of rotating plants, and special events (that admittedly I have not yet attending but heard great things about!). I cannot recommend this shop enough for anyone looking to test out their green thumb or buy a unique and thoughtful gift!

Is this heaven? No, it's Iowa, but the Art Terrarium could have fooled me into thinking otherwise. The store is filled with all kinds of plants and artwork designed by local artists as well as artists from all across the country. The staff was great and helped me pick out a plant that I most likely won't kill in my apartment that gets very little natural light. They also host events and workshops that teach you the basics of plant care and terrarium. When I wandered into the store they were hosting a blind date with a book event. I absolutely can't wait for my next visit here!

A cute display in the store, featuring the featured art and some of the plants.

A fun store that has a wide variety of plants and the staff are very knowledgeable in plants and were very helpful. They feature different artists in their shop, which is nice way to see some different artists that one might not be able to see. The staff helped us replant our new succulents and gave us tips on where to ace them in our home and how to care for them.

The owners were great about helping pick out what plant you might be more suited for. They had great advice on the watering schedule for plants. They also had great advice on the type of pots to use for the plants depending on the water needs. I was great to hear that if you have a succulent or cactus they are great at West winds and if you have a tropical plant they are great at east windows. All things I did not know and would not have known if I had not of stopped at the art terrarium. The difference in soil and all the crazy things that make up potting the perfect plant and keeping it alive were amazing. This is a one of a kind experience. They have lots of local art and a large selection of plants and pots to plant then in. This was a great experience. Thank you art terrarium.

Cool plant shop. Planters on offer are expensive, but they do let you bring in your own as a cost effective option.

The majority of their selection is outside. When I went they had a special going on. (see photos for details). Overall it was a great experience. They seemed to have a diverse selection of plants - all of which looked pretty healthy. The inside was definitely cool although they are currently limiting it to two customers at a time due to social distancing. The lady who helped us was wearing a bandanna as a mask and the other person had a cloth mask on. The whole store, while going for that cluttered chic look was very clean. Masks are required per the mandate. I would definitely go back.
