I'm so happy I checked Yelp to find this wonderful hotel in the Des Moines area…read more We were caught in a snow storm while driving through MN which delayed our trip for hours. We didn't want to drive much further. It was getting late so I looked for a hotel in the Des Moines area. This popped up right off the freeway so we decided to give it a try. As we walked in, we immediately noticed all the nice decor and artwork. It was beautifully decorated for the holidays as well. The front desk attendant was very nice and quickly got us settled down we would have time to grab a bite to eat before the kitchen closed. The room was nice and clean. Bed & pillows very comfortable. Plenty of towels, soap, shampoo and conditioner. Robes! We liked all the modern touches. My only issue is what I have with almost all hotels. While I very much appreciate a coffee maker in the room, hotels always add decaf coffee instead of additional regular coffee. Who drinks decaf? So you need to make the extra trip downstairs to ask for regular coffee. We went to the bar/restaurant downstairs for drinks, a bite to eat and to watch Thursday night football. First, the bar is very cool with a pool table and several TV's. Nice wall art and comfortable barstools. Sadly, they don't offer any streaming of any kind in this hotel so there was no way to watch the NFL games on their TV's at the bar or in the rooms. Fortunately, I was able to get it in my phone app but could not project to their regular TV's. Our bartenders were Eddie at first, then Tyler who took over towards the end of the night. Both bartenders were super attentive and friendly. For food, we ordered the Burrata, chicken wings and the Revel Flatbread. The wings were nice and crispy, the burrata yummy and the flatbread was thin and crispy. All were actually delicious which I wouldn't normally expect from a small hotel. Very nice! The hotel offers a free buffet breakfast to guests as well as made to order. Honestly the buffet breakfast has everything from hot to cold. It has a toaster and microwave if needed. It was quite a spread. Plenty of juice & milk varieties. The food was delicious. They also offer free bottled water if you run out of water in the room. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. We were probably two if twenty guests in the hotel which was very surprising as it is a decent price for what you receive overall as a guest. I would definitely recommend the hotel if you are passing through.

Our room had 2 beds for 4 people, much like any other hotel. it started going downhill when we realized there was no shower curtain, and the shower was exposed to the door the bathroom and the sink. Oh well, we made it work. As we had dinner, a very nice man listened to everything we had to say and we were treated with gourmet food. We decided to go to bed at that time, so we did, but here is the low point of the experience. None of us could sleep because this blinding light was constantly turning on and off at night, and this wierd light on the ceiling was flashing on and off the entire time. I only got about 4 hours of sleep. the worst part however, was that our fridge stopped working during this time, and hasn't been working since. We had to throw out all the food we brought, and now none of our beverages were cold. Overall I would not recommend this hotel, as there is a much better one close to Adventureland called "The Hyatt place", which had the best pool , and best room I've ever had in a hotel. I see why this is the budget option, because the experience quite frankly sucks. Save yourself the struggle and go to the Hyatt place. 2 stars.

I arrived around 3:00 PM on June 20 and sat at a mostly empty bar. After receiving my drink, I asked for a menu. Instead of a simple explanation, the bartender rudely told me to "turn around" and pointed toward the food line. I apologized and explained that I had never been there before. The interaction only got worse from there. As I walked the short distance to the food line--with my suitcase still sitting at the bar because I was traveling--the bartender yelled across the room asking whether I wanted a tab. I immediately apologized again and explained that I wasn't from the area and wasn't familiar with how their process worked. When I handed him my card, his response was sarcastic and condescending. Another customer at the bar actually exchanged a look with me because the behavior was so unnecessary and awkward. The food itself was good. The tenders and Brussels sprouts were enjoyable, and the young man taking food orders was professional, friendly, and helpful. Unfortunately, the bartender continued to ignore me for the remainder of my visit. My drink sat empty for an extended period of time. He looked directly at my empty glass multiple times without acknowledging it while continuing to serve other customers. A female bartender eventually noticed and offered another drink. When it came time to leave for my flight, I politely asked for my check. The bartender responded with more sarcasm and attitude while trying to locate my tab. After another unnecessarily rude exchange, he finally found it and immediately turned the payment screen toward me, instructing me to add a tip. At that point, I told him directly that he had been rude to me throughout my entire visit. His response was essentially, "Yeah, sorry," in a tone that made it clear he wasn't sorry at all. I left a zero-dollar tip, which is something I NEVER do. And I made sure he knew. He looked and stomped away. The frustrating part is that this experience was completely avoidable. I was a first-time customer in an unfamiliar restaurant environment, asking normal questions and trying to be polite. Instead of receiving basic hospitality, I was treated like an inconvenience from the moment I sat down. The kitchen staff and the woman bartender were great. The male bartender working around 3 PM on June 20 was not. One employee shouldn't be enough to make a customer leave angry, but in this case, he absolutely was. I would not return, and I cannot recommend this establishment based on the service I received.
