If you're doing a food tour and you're walking through the city, you should definitely have some hands sanitizer or have spots along the way, picked out to be regularly washing your hands. You also should refrain from touching people's plates and cups as you discuss and show them the food items. I understand it's a food tour, but especially when you don't have clean hands, it's highly unsanitary! It's also a good idea to not greet dogs and let them lick all over you ... your hands.... your arms AND your face while you're interacting with people who are eating food, bringing them food from the restaurant & leading a tour. It's a good idea to give people space after you give them the information about the tour and the food and the art and let them socialize with the people that they came with. We should not have experience the person who is giving the tour or learning how to give a tourist next to you constantly asking you questions about what you're eating, what you're trying, where you're from or other questions that are really irrelevant .. it is pretty annoying & doesn't allow you to enjoy the experience fully. It's not a good idea to take shortcuts, because it's easier for you as the tour guide. One of our group members ate meat. The other 2 are vegetarians, but to keep it simple or make it easier. She was repeatedly offered vegetarian options and not given the opportunity to try the meat options along the tour. This was frustrating as you were very clear when setting up the tour, what the food restrictions were, we reminded them again when we got to the beginning of the tour and also reminded along the tour. How often will we need to say it in order to get the full experience. Although the tour guide and her trainee were very nice & social, it is not likely not an experience we'll do again. read more

We had a fun day in Solvang with our guide Hannah. Although we were locals, it was great to find some new spots we had not visited before. Hannah was very friendly and accommodating to our requests. There was plenty of food to eat and a couple of adult beverages included. The photo tips were marginal, but we didn't care as we booked the tour for the fun of walking around town and tasting the delicious food. Our Solvang tour with Cameron was an experience of a lifetime. And no this is not an exaggeration. From seeing pictures of this magical town of Solvang online, photographs, and through other people's experiences, I got to experience the city this past weekend. The town itself has such great, healing, and positive energy. There are so many restaurants, brewhouses, and wine tastings everywhere. Without the guidance of Eat This Shoot That!, we would have been completely lost. Cameron had such an organized itinerary for us throughout the evening. It was such an amazing, special feeling to have all these restaurants know we were on the tour, immediately get seated, and get food and drinks in front of us within 5 minutes of entering the restaurant. As a Yelp Elite, food tours is my middle name! lol I love exploring through food when traveling. I can't believe it's been a good 10 years since I've visited Santa Barbara. We were in town for a wedding and the lovely bride and groom set up all the guests on this wonderful tour! We were separated into 3 groups of 14-15 and off we go to eat! We had 8 stops in the Funk Zone area and 3 of those had alcohol. My hubby and I are not drinkers at all so I wish there were other options at those stop. One did provide a ginger mint mocktail but even then the ginger was way too strong for me. And now onto the food! we got a taste of: pizza, taco, poutine, duck taquitos, and a bread/dried fruits/nuts box that pairs with one of the wine place we stopped at. Overall my favorite was the poutine with gravy and schnitzel from Biergarten, and the duck taquitos from Flor de Maiz. Those two restaurants I would had definitely go back to have a full meal. TBH, the only thing that was missing on this tour was dessert! Overall I think we only walked maybe 2 to 2.5 miles around the city. But we've learned and tasted so much more! It was a a great way to meet and interact with other wedding guests that we wouldn't had normally. This was a great way to begin our discovery of funk town. Our tour guide, Hannah, was fabulous: very personable and knowledgeable. The locations and food selection was diverse. Serving portions were substantial, so would suggest arriving hungry and to pace yourself on this tour. We cancelled our dinner plans after this tour as we were too satiated to be able to consume another meal on the same day. My tour guide was awesome. She was originally from Argentina (loved the accent). and did a great job in explaining the different histories of Santa Barbara. My knees aren't great and I felt the walking pace and distance were very doable. The food tastings and drinks were well proportioned and balanced off with walking. FYI - I've already shared this exact same feedback with the owner but want to make sure fellow consumers have an idea of our experience - I worked with Tara (owner) for close to a year to plan a private tour for a group of 10 of us celebrating my husband's 50th birthday - she was more than perfect but we had the extreme opposite experience once we actually took the tour - our tour guide, Christy, started off by offending my group stating we had "bizzaro" names which was furthest from the truth. She then would lose her train of thought in the middle of explaining something on the tour, she didn't call a couple of places ahead of time so they were visibly frustrated with our size group just popping in - it was an extremely disappointing experience given I'd been planning this for close to a year and paid nearly $2,000 for 10 guests when it ended up being more like a $500 group experience - we've taken many tours like this before and this was one I was anticipating being amazing and it was easily our least favorite tour we've ever taken and our least favorite experience in Santa Barbara - the owner doesn't live local so there could be some disconnect with hiring - the owner was apologetic but did not offer anything beyond that which was also disappointing given everything I shared with her about our experience. If you decide to take this tour, avoid Christy - as the other reviewers seemed to have enjoyed their experience - we unfortunately did not. read more

My boyfriend and I went through this food tour together as a part of our date day trip in Santa Barbara. This company is so wonderfully organized and hospitable with their tours. Tara was very kind and proactive in helping us get set up with a tour guide so we appreciated that. Andrew was our tour guide and he is hands down awesome (as you might see in some of the other reviews)! It's clear that he's a history buff and was able to provide so many new and interesting facts about Santa Barbara that made the experience so fun and enriching. We felt so comfortable conversating and walking through the city. So they have a really great staff. We were able to discover eating places that we wouldn't have known about and learned historical facts that we probably would have walked right past on our own. We loved every single dining place we visited. Everything was SO delicious. And they give just the right amount of proportions so that you can continue to walk it off and make space for the next dish. Also they were very precautious and compliant with social distancing and wearing our masks the entire time while being outdoors so I personally felt comfortable with the tour in light of COVID. You can tell they're being thoughtful about the circumstances. All that being said, we truly had a wonderful time. If you want to expand your experience in SB, definitely add this to your list! This tour was offered through our cruise ship. It was my favorite excursion of our cruise. Our guide was Kayla? She was informative and very pleasant. She made us all feel comfortable. The first thing she did was pass out packages of popcorn from the Santa Barbara Popcorn Company for us to snack on while we were walking. The popcorn is delicious and comes in 42 flavors and is available to order for shipping, which I may do because I live in Ohio. Now for the actual tour. The food and drink variety was great. The food included octopus ceviche, schnitzel poutine, wood fired fennel sausage pizza, chicken street tacos, and ice cream, all of which were delicious. We also had a couple types of beer, wine, and spirits. It was so much fun to walk through the streets with 8 new friends and stop for great food and drink. Kayla also gave us some history of the area and pointed out several beautiful wall paintings. The area was beautiful. This was a great tour and a great time. I don't think I have ever been so disappointed with a business before I am even able to visit. I saw a Groupon for this food tour and was thrilled because I had looked into them in past and wasn't able to fit it into my trip at the time. Knowing third parties like Groupon take such a high fee for advertising, I wanted to reach out directly and ask if they would prefer I purchase directly through them rather than Groupon. Kinda a win win for both of us to save some money. But instead I was told they were unaware they had a Groupon offer at the time and asked if I could hold off on purchasing so that they can further look into it. I know things happen and was willing to wait since the sale price wasn't expected to expire for another few days, and I had time to purchase if that's how they wanted to handle it. They called me back 2 days later to tell me I could purchase through Groupon if I wanted and was definitely under the impression they would honor the original advertised price. Considering they were unaware, it was a good thing that I pointed it out to them before there was a real problem they had to deal with. I go on to purchase through Groupon and realized the price has now been updated and there is ZERO discount from there website price. I took screen shots of the groupon that stated the deal should still be good, and was clearly changed after they investigated and contacted groupon. I called again in hopes to purchase tickets at the price that was advertised and spoke with Tara, the owner of the business. I absolutely can not express the amount of disrespect and demeaning comments she made to me. While speaking to her, she laughed and then tried to tell me that I should have purchased earlier before the deal was gone.... Uhhh I waited per there request to look into things. As if to make matters even more uncalled for, she even apologized that is was "outside my budget" and recommended waiting until they have another sale..... I couldn't believe she was talking to me like this. The audacity and demeaning comment. Clearly a disappointment after hoping they would do the right thing and looking forward to this tour.... But things happen for a reason I guess. I found a much better food tour and booked with them instead. Oh, and I paid full price with no problem Tara, my budget wasn't the problem, it was about you honoring a listed price as advertised. We did the food tour this past Saturday. Let me say this- Our guide was really great and knowledgeable, she was a very sweet lady and that's the reason I am giving 3 stars. Although, the food, wine & drinks that they promote in the website "Eat this, shoot that" is just not prompt for the price they charge, and I will explain WHY- So we did the tasting @ the Solvang location. We started off with a cheese plate and 2 wine tasting, which was cool, but at the same we were a group of 6 ppl total. The paper plate was very small, but it wasn't even individual portions, we were all sharing the same plate. After that, we went to 7 other places. I was expecting at least drinks, wine or something to go with the tastings, but no, it wasn't like that at all. The only "drink" tasting was the 2 wine tastings from the first place, then we tried ONE sample of a beer and then coffee at the very end. Now, those 8 Restaurants that we went to, actually included 2 places that ANYONE can go to and get free samples. One was a place that sells Spices and the other was a place that sells different Olive oils. In fact we've been there in the past. The food was ok, BUT nothing special. Paying $265 for two tickets is absolutely not worth it. Perhaps this was different before the pandemic because I did check the reviews here before making a decision to do this. Perhaps, more restaurants were included in this tour or something. It just doesn't add up for what you get, you know?! Would I do it again? Probably NOT. read more

This is only my second experience with going on a food tour, so I don't have much to compare to, but food tours are super fun since you can try different foods you may not normally have tried. I thought the Funk Zone food tour was overall pretty great, and our tour guide Jocelyne was friendly and knowledgeable. My favorite item was the ahi tuna ceviche from Santi Mezcal! The fish was so fresh and tasty, and the sauces were excellent. Everything else (the pizza, chicken taco, ice cream, and chocolate) was fairly good, but nothing stellar. For this food tour, I could have done without the alcohol and would have liked more food stops instead! Portion sizes were quite small especially since the food was shared, so having either more food at each stop or having an additional stop would have made my belly a little happier! Another thing that could have improved the tour would be to have the ice cream stop individualized to each person. It would have been nice to choose your own flavors of ice cream (similar to how we got a choice for the chocolate truffles). Overall, I don't think this tour is worth the full price, so I'm glad we got a Groupon. It definitely was still a really fun experience, and having a knowledgeable tour guide definitely added value to the tour. read more

Sharing interesting facts about the lovely Santa Barbara city and enjoying delicious food was amazing. Santo Mezcal- Octopus ceviche was uniquely delicious, so addicting. I couldn't get enough of it!! The Bier Garten- Pork poutine fries, fried cheese curds, mushroom gravy sauce, need I say more. Delicious. And the amber beer, typically I stray away from Amber beers BUT this one was so perfectly paired. I wanted more. Mony's Mexican food- first of all I never order, Chicken tacos, I'm Mexican, Al pastor all the way. This place makes GREAT chicken tacos. Christina again proved me wrong. I do want to return and try other tacos too. Cutler's Artisan Spirits- Shots, shots, shots. I was skeptical about trying vodka and gin without a chaser but the apple pie liquor and coffee liquor in the end was AMAZING!! Lucky Penny- always a favorite of mine so I was happy to get some slices in my belly. Fennel sausage, so tasty. Figueroa mountain- another favorite of mine, great beers. Tried the Mexican lager, wouldn't say I would typically order this one but I was glad to have tasted it. Helena Bakery- fresh bread with lavender jam...I wish I ordered another loaf of bread just to finish off that HEAVENLY JAM, I was too full from all the other tastings though. Santa Barbara Wine company- preselected white and red wines both delicious. Had to stay and order a flight and sample other great wines as well. Overall, best food tour I've ever been on. read more

The portions were generous at every stop and some stops offered a discount on purchasing bottles of wine/alcohol to take home for later. It was totally worth the price and we got to bypass the lines as well! Tara was a great guide and super knowledgeable and I would definitely do this tour again the next time I am in Santa Barbara. We don't drink alcohol, but we got to try some delicious food from six different restaurants. The food was so exceptional and was a great way to experience restaurants that we might not have tried. So delighted our friends recommended the Solvang food tour because it was such a fun experience. This was the first time my husband and I have done a tour like this and even though we are not alcohol drinkers we felt the variety and quality of food was good. We spent about 15 minutes at each location which gave us time to relax and enjoy the food. The walking was a bit difficult for me towards the end of the tour due to having knee issues and longer distances between stops. Kayla was a wonderful tour guide who shared some interesting history about Solvang. She was very insightful and kept us involved.
