I give this place a 5 on service of one woman alone, Jean. She is such a delight and this restaurant is lucky to have her. She seemed to be carrying the load all by herself. (There was a younger woman there and when I waved at her to ask her a question she saw then ignored, and when I went up to pay my bill the younger dark hair girl just said your server will be over to help you and walked away. While my server, Jean was clearly delivering several dishes) Anyways, Jean was friendly, made suggestions, offered small chat, she was warm and welcoming!!! The food... We came here early for breakfast, immediately following the 4.1 earthquake centered in Malibu. To our surprise it was felt here at Eat at Rudy's. Diners were looking around with shocked faces, so we initially thought it was us. Then we all had a bit of laugh. We were immediately greeted and seated by our server. She allowed us adequate time to review the menu while bringing us our beverages. Since this is like a local watering hole, staff and guests talked like old friends. It was quite enjoyable to listen in. We both ordered the waffle special, which is waffles served with eggs and choice of meat. The waffles came fresh the griddle so the butter melts immediately. However, I must say they use a high quality and fresh eggs, as they were delicious. Partnered up with their homemade salsa, I was in hog heaven. This place is really cozy, so whether you're dining alone or in a group, everyone seems to enjoy everyone's company. read more

It is really cute inside the restaurant like an old school diner. There is plenty of parking here and I usually take my clients here to grab food and have meetings. One star for quick service and customer service was mediocre. Ample parking for customers in a good size parking lot. I've lived in Wilmington my entire life and never tried this place so one morning I thought I would see what all the rave was about and to be honest I was very disappointed in the food. It was flavorless and slopped on the to go plastic plates with foil on the bottom that stuck to my biscuit and gravy so I had pieces of foil in my gravy. No bueno. Plastic also melted around the edges near the bacon so I assumed they threw it on there pretty quickly but it was not edible for me so I threw it in the trash. Looks like they cater to older people, Uber eats, Port workers and out of town folks so I guess it's suitable for that. Not my kind of environment. Looks like a trucker hang out with seriously overpriced food. My Husband and I ordered 2 breakfasts and my tab came out to approximately $53 and some change with no drink or coffee. Seriously highway robbery. Do yourself a favor and go down to Avalon for Toms breakfast instead. Half the price and way better breakfast and service. read more

Today I went to a Cafe names Rudy's in Wilmington, CA where I grew up. A dear friend of mine suggested it too me. When we lived there over 25 years ago it was called Bonanza, well it is living up too the reputation of great eating and delicious food and customer service. Our waitress Candy was delightful and gave wonderful customer service today. I told it was my first time there but had heard great things. Solid four star experience at this old line diner. We were in Wilmington last weekend to visit the Banning House Museum, but we're early for their first tour. A Yelp search yielded the good reviews of Eat at Rudy's not far away. Not much to look at from the outside, and surrounded by unrelenting concrete and blacktop, with a few bricks thrown in, it could sure use the softening of landscaping. Once inside, the view doesn't pick up too much. The restaurant is a wide open large space with soaring ceilings. Could have been built in any decade from the 30s through the 70s. The architecture runs to ranch style roadhouse. At some point, someone decided to paint the walls a cringe-worthy color of beige with pink undertones. Even plain white would be preferable to that unfortunate color. There were some attempts at decor, with some tschotkes on one wall. Didn't really look finished, though. All of those visuals aside, though, people come to Rudy's for the food, I expect. They offer diner fare, with a few twists and additions. Only open for breakfast and lunch, you can order breakfast items the whole time. I chose French toast with eggs and a ham steak. That piece of ham was completely outstanding. Fork-tender, with a hint of sweetness, it was the best ham I've enjoyed in years. No idea how they made it so succulent. The French toast was miles better than the last time I ordered the breakfast staple at another restaurant. Perfectly light and fluffy, with a dollop of whipped butter and syrup on the side, and a small dusting of powdered sugar, it was like a taste of childhood nostalgic goodness. Dear Hubby chose a chicken sandwich on a ciabatta role with an Ortega Chile and a tangy sauce. It was so generous a portion that he took half home. I did the same with my dish. Good, filling food at decent prices, with good, friendly service is what Eat at Rudy's offers. The bus boys especially hustle here, keeping tables clean and refilling beverages. I'd definitely recommend this as an option when you're in the area and need a comfort food fix. read more

If you watched Twin Peaks: The Return, in Part 18, Agent Dale Cooper arrives at Eat at Judy's in Odessa, Texas (which was filmed here LOL). My husband and I watch the show and since we're geeks, we decided to come here to check it out. Upon arrival, it looks pretty much the same as it did on TV except they had cleared out most of the tables on the inside on the show and Francesca Eastwood (Clint Eastwood's daughter) is not the waitress..... We were greeted immediately and told that we could sit anywhere we wanted. My husband had to use the restroom, so of course I had to pick the same booth that Dale Cooper sat at! HAHAHA. (There's a side by side photo in my Yelp Profile) My husband ordered the California Omelette with toast and I got the Chile Verde Omelette with flour tortillas. Eat at Rudy's should be on your go-to breakfast list. They have a good variety of omelettes, combos (with pancakes, french toast or waffles), huevos rancheros, chorizo and eggs, breakfast burrito, eggs benedict, etc. All their food is solid. Their biscuits (with or without gravy) are light, fluffy, delicious and iconic! You can't eat at Eat at Rudy's without trying their biscuits at least once. And the staff are always friendly and welcoming. Have been to both Wilmington and old Torrance locations. Wilmington is a much larger space. Both have outdoor seating as well.
