Nice neighborhood bar. Really good live music. Decent sound system that fills the venue without being overly loud. The place seats about 80 people. Not all tables can see the stage, which is a bummer given how small the venue is. Our waitress was excellent. Decent selection of beers. Small food menu, but what we had was good. Oh my where do I start. Food was okay, came out in a timely manner. Ambiance was nice, they had coloring books for my 2 year old which was nice. Our server, I believe his name was Steve, was terrible. I asked if they had any sour beers and he repeated "Sour?" Like he was confused, I asked to see the draft selection but he pointed to a small tv which I couldn't read. I had to take pictures with my phone and zoom in to even see. He was on his phone the whole time with his back to the entire bar/restaurant so it was difficult to get his attention. However when someone did mange to get his attention he would promptly put his hand up giving the "one second" gesture. My mother ordered te grilled cheese with fries, she got potato chips. No big deal we will just ask for fries, but he never came back to check on us. So we sat there not eating and waited for him to check on us. Surprisingly good little taphouse in North City. I didn't expect much walking in, but was pleasantly surprised by the food, service, and drinks. My wife ended up with the shrimp and grits and I had the baked garlic cheese; both were great. My wife also enjoyed her smoked blueberry cider and I had the Guinness, which was, well, Guinness. My boyfriend and I were on our way home from an unsuccessful trip to the nearby goodwill when we spied the Easy Monkey sign. "Pull over" I shouted exhibiting my hanger. To my delight it was happy hour so that expanded my meal budget. Off of the happy hour menu we got a garden salad, wings, and catfish and fries. Great prices and a dollar off beers, wells and wine. I'm a picky wing person and these were fantastic. Wings and catfish are hand breaded and ALL sauces and dressings are homemade. So is the silky soft potato soup with chive oil that we had for dessert. No shortcuts in the kitchen here. Seriously am so stoked to go back. Food totally awesome!! Deep fried avocado stuffed with corn, salsa, cilantro and other spices was great. Catfish crunchy and delicious. Tater sauce had a little kick to it. Wow! Such a great find. Husband had the Monkey Sliders and I had the Pulled pork sliders. Both were great. Everything accompanying each dish was perfectly paired and they were not what you'd find anywhere else. Even the house chips didn't disappoint. Service was fantastic too. North City is a quieter side of Shoreline to some extent--not a lot of people drive through here on a regular basis compared to, say, Lake City Way. There are enough locals to give the place a small crossroads of businesses. But, speaking as someone who lives just a few miles away, it's rare for outsiders to drive through here on their way to anything else. So it's hard to get a clear read on how Easy Monkey will shake out. They kinda wanna be a live music spot and stopover spot for a decent-sized crowd. They have seating for about 50, and standing room for a bit more than that. They emphasize their live music side, but I didn't see a schedule. I'm sure it was around somewhere if I looked. They do for sure have a disco ball, and some paintings of musicians playing live. What you get is a nice little neighborhood joint with a little bit of parking and a pretty understated sign. You walk in across brand-new laminate floors, past a whole bunch of tables and stools that are all brand-new. It's super clean and has just enough art on the walls to not make you feel like it's their first day of business. Still feels pretty brand-new, though, no matter how you slice it. There's a bar to the left, and then a little space past that where the bands set up. Windows at both ends. This should be a good space once it gets a lived-in feel. The staff are nice, and they check on you regularly. They know the menu and the beer list reasonably well, but they're clearly not aiming to specialize as a beer bar. They DO, though, get local kegs from smaller breweries, which is cool to see. They had multiple kegs on from Salish Sea, Two Beers, Big E, and American when I was in. All stuff brewed not only in town but most of them as physically close to the pub as possible. That is *so* cool to see places plugging in to the community that way. You can't get most of the food on their menu from literally that close, but the menu is short and fairly thoughtful. A few easy pub snacks, a dish of peanuts, and a couple sandwiches. Nothing fancy, but you can at least put something in your stomach after a couple pints. We had the sausage and cheese platter, which was just a bunch of stuff from the supermarket all sliced up, but there was plenty of it and it was dirt cheap ($9). I'd rather pay that for inexpensive items than $25 each for a cheese and charcuterie plate that's too small, but very fancy (yes, this point of comparison is very valid; that was the option at the place we hit the night before). I'd far, far rather save 80% and eat the fancy stuff at home after hitting a fancy supermarket myself. So, even though I tend to like fancier cured meats, the Easy Monkey option is the smart play here by far. We had three roundss, peanuts, and that sausage plate, all for $43 plus tip. Definitely happy to hit this place up again. I'm also curious to hit the place across the street which, despite being a bar, flies a 7-Up sign. It has clearly been operating since the last world war, and might be worth a visit. As long as I'm not wearing any clothes that are too nice. read more

This was not what I expected and that's a good thing! I was expecting more of a dive bar from some of the other reviews, but this is a nice place. We visited on a Saturday night to see blues man Paul Green perform with the 200 Trio. If you are a blues or jazz fan you'll want to check out Paul and the trio. They don't usually perform together but they play all over the city. The cover was only $5 which was an absolute steal for this caliber of musicians. The layout in this long space doesn't make for an intimate musical experience, but the sound system is good and you can see the band well from most seats. They are planning on building out a stage downstairs, something I am looking forward to. This is a nice bar with a decent beer selection and a few rotating taps. The menu is small, but has a good variety, including some gluten fee options. They have a "braut" listed on the menu, which I guess is a bratwurst and not a bride. We ordered beer and cider and a Reuben and grilled ham and cheese. The drinks were tasty and the food was good. The sandwiches were well prepared, tasted good and came with grapes, a bag of chips and a peppermint patty. The prices were reasonable. Service was very good. We were checked on fairly regularly and the server was up front about the cover. Food and drinks were delivered with a reasonable wait time. There were about 25 to 30 people in the bar. Parking was a bit of a challenge though, the back lot and street parking was full so we parked on a side street. We'll be back for sure! read more

It was our first time visiting and we had to be in and out in 45 minutes. Most establishments wouldn't have been able to make this work but East Monkey Taphouse went above and beyond. Drinks were great (we tried some beer and a couple shots of whiskey) and the food tasted awesome and came out in less than 10 mins. Their pork ribs are delicious! Brought a group to the Easy Monkey to hear the Mark DuFresne Band on Saturday. Great food and great music; what a combo! The pulled pork sandwich, pot pie, and catfish were all winners. The place was slammed but the wait staff persisted and even managed to smile. Nice eclectic selection of beers on tap. Come on a non music night if you want the outstanding shrimp and grits. Great place to hang out after work or if you just don't want to stay home. Very clean and modern place. Simply but tastefully decorated. Could be cozier. Friendly service. Local beer, hard cider and wine on tap. Tons of cheese on their Garlic Cheese Bread with Marinara! I'd love them to add pies to their small selection of food :0) People there were obviously having a good time....all kinds of people, dancing, watching the band, eating, drinking and munching on free peanuts, watching TV, checking on their phone....in a fun and welcoming overall atmosphere. There are several things that I LOVE about this place and one thing that could be better... I LOVE: - that they have 3 ciders on tap! - that they care about causes (some profit from one of their taps is donated to a Parkinson's disease foundation, the pink tap) - that I happened upon jazz music last Friday night! - that the people who work there (I think they are the owners?) seem like nice friendly people. They got me more drinks right when I was emptying my glass, but they were not overly attentive where I felt like I was being watched. I like that balance : ) Room for improvement: - food. I want more food options! I know it's a bar and I should be ok with snacks, but I like to eat more substantial food when I'm having my cider All and all, I'm glad this place opened up in the neighborhood! We saw the sign go up about a month ago, and have been eagerly awaiting the opening of Easy Monkey. There aren't a lot of options for highbrow brew in the North City area. EM has about 10 beers on tap, most from local breweries Two Beers and Salish. There are limited food options - mostly appetizer dishes - as their kitchen is small. The german sausage was good, as was the hummus plate. They also have cheese and fruit platters. Nothing fried, which is a nice change from typical pub fare - no gutbombs here. The interior is brand new and nicely appointed for what there is. The walls are in need of some artwork, and I suspect that will evolve. We were there for the soft opening, and they're still working out the minor kinks, but overall the service was good, and the staff friendly. There's also a patio out back which is being finished and looks to be a great place to hang out on a summer evening. There's definitely a market for good beer and grub in North City, and if they keep it up Easy Monkey will do well. read more

Great bar and fine pub food. Pilsner and pale ale options both really tasty (not an IPA fan). Had the Mac n cheese with bbq pork; really fine, bordering on sublime. Very chill vibe. I'm not a local but the place is very friendly and seems like a popular spot for locals. Waiting for the music to start so can't comment on that just yet. As much as they're trying, I, as well as the majority of the group I was with, don't plan on coming back. Why? Food - Although there was no expectation to have a great menu with elaborate options, the items they did have were incredibly basic. We tried the sausage and cheese plate, the veggies and hummus plate, the french dip, the German sausage with baked beans, and the chips and salsa. The sausage from the plate was reminiscent of a simple summer sausage and the cheese looked like it came from a pack of slices from Costco. The German sausage was a glorified hot dog. The chips and salsa had a ton of chips with a disproportionately little amount of salsa (the salsa was good though). Also, chips that came with the french dip and the German sausage were bags of Tim's which could have been brought up a level by not just tossing the small bag on the plate. I get it. It's simple and easy to manage for a place that doesn't have a full kitchen but it could be tackled in a better way: artisan cheeses, artisan meats (plural. We were informed that the sausage on the sausage and cheese plate was from a local place but it really didn't seem like anything special), chips on the plate and not in a to-go bag. Service - It's a small place and there were 3 people working (maybe 4 but definitely only 3 providing service which was plenty). We came on Thursday for trivia night and there were eventually 8 of us. Total in the establishment was ~40-50 people. We were having the hardest time getting anyone to come to our table and were constantly looking to order food or drinks, especially as time went on and people were leaving after trivia. They were really having a struggle balancing the timing of their attendance to the tables. On the plus side, they were really good about splitting up our bills; they just took forever to get the bills to our group. Environment - As I mentioned, we came here for trivia. At places most of us had been before for trivia, there's usually a presentation or some sort of visuals. The establishment didn't have a projector or use a TV to support this attraction that they advertise (there was one TV above the bar which had the NBA playoffs on which made sense). The whole event just felt a bit awkward. Overall, the place is clean and simple but there's nothing there to make it stand out or make me want to come back. Other - This is just a tap house; they do not brew any of their own beer. They have beers from Salish Sea, Big E, American Brewing, Georgetown Brewing, and Two Beers Brewery as well as some cider. Aside from being able to get beers from all of these breweries at one place, there's nothing that would make me come here over going to those breweries. I have been to all of the listed breweries aside from Two Beers and I can say, in my opinion, that they all have a better setup and more appealing atmosphere than Easy Monkey Taphouse. read more

I'd misread the start times for my movie at the Crest theater nearby, so I had an hour or so to kill, and I ran up to 15th looking for a place to grab a pint and maybe a snack. Please don't make me go into the dive bar and please don't make me go the bar in the Chinese restaurant! Easy Monkey to the rescue! Clean, quiet (when I went in - the music wouldn't start until later), and they had my favorite local beers. My Big E Copper Ale was delicious and the hummous plate was just the right snack! However, they lose a star because there's no real atmosphere. The first reviewer, from last year, remarked that there was no art on the walls. That hasn't changed! Almost totally bare walls! From the lack of atmosphere, I was figuring the place was a week old, not the 9 months old it actually is. Have some fun, you guys! Go hit the antique stores in the area, and cover the walls in tasteful junk, secure in the knowledge that it's all deductible. Or maybe not so tasteful junk. Go wild! read more

Today was my 3rd time here. I come for steel tip and enjoy the space they have downstairs. I dont enjoy having to hike upstairs for drinks but do it. I went upstairs 3 tines, bar isnt even busy and took 10+ mins to get something each time, fustrating to be looked at and ignored. Then went to pay my tab, announced i was paying cash for my 2 sodas and not to run my card. Took him awhile to get card, i see him milling around at the register so i walk over and again and say i am paying cash, ignored, female bartender says can i help you, i said trying to tab out, need card paying cash, she asked me last name i tell her, he throws my card, pen reciept at me and said, i ran the card. Pretty sure he is the owner and am pretty fustrated and irritated. Makes me not want to come back. read more

Lots of tasty beers on tap. A really nice place to go if you want to hang out and have a couple beers without the loudness or bar atmosphere. It is pretty minimal seating but it is nice because you are not packed in like sardines. The last time we were there they were charging a pretty hefty cover because there was a band playing. My one other complaint is they are not open very late. Great place to get a beer with a friend and then boom you're forced to go somewhere else. I think they'd make a lot more dough staying open until at least 11 or even midnight. read more

So I went to this place while on a date. I had walked by before and it looked nice. It was a Friday I think. They had a band. It was about 10pm. We go in and sit down. Waitress / Bartender comes and takes our order. Comes back with the drinks. I pay. Then about 2 minutes later the same person comes over and says that we have to pay a $5 cover charge each if we wanna stay! We stay long enough to finish our drinks and don't pay the cover. My friends and I went here for trivia night. Trivia was fun but overall we won't be returning. Here is why: - The food was pretty basic. Wasn't bad but wasn't extraordinary. We figured they were limited by their kitchen. This alone was not enough to ruin the experience. - Decor and feel could have been better -we sat at a plastic fold-out table. - The real kicker was when my friend was told that she could not drink water from her Nalgene water bottle and she would need to put it away. And the bar does not provide drinking water. You have to pay for bottled water. I find it unforgivable that a bar sells alcohol to their customers but does not provide free drinking water. read more

My boyfriend and I have been walking to the Easy Monkey after work on Friday's. Neither of us are big drinkers, but we really enjoy going in, having a chance to chat and unwind, drink a beer or two, and skedaddle. I love that we can hear each other, the bartenders are really friendly, and without intending to, we always end up leaving pretty full. PROS: - Friday late afternoon/early evening is HOTDOG HAPPY HOUR. I don't know if it will always be this way, and we're not big hot dog eaters either, but it was a really nice surprise. After a beer, it's hard to say no to a hotdog. - I really like their tomato soup! Simple food and limited menu, but it's cooked well and goes really good with beer. - Free peanuts! - Accidentally showed up for trivia once. It was really fun and there was a crazy huge turn out! However, my voice doesn't really carry, so with that many people around, it was hard to be heard. - We keep missing the live shows, but they've got wood floors and an area for a stage. This seems like an awesome venue for some blues bands & dancers to strut their stuff. - They have shuffleboard! - I like that the beer selection seemed fairly local, but I'm not a beer aficionado, so what do I know? - There're always people here. Not so many that I can't hear myself, not so few that I feel like I'm being watched. Good balance. CONS: - Now that I've been in a few times, I need a few more beer choices... I'm running out of things to try! A tasty sour would be awesome. :) - It doesn't feel as trendy as, say, a bar in Ballard.
