I could not find a will in his condo, but I found a portable upright metal file cabinet that I thought might contain a will. A key was taped to the lid, but it did not fit the keyhole, and I could not get the file cabinet open, so I had to find a locksmith to do it. I Googled a list of locksmiths, and Dan at Locksmith Inc. was the only one to answer the phone immediately when I called, and be able to speak and understand English perfectly (others were foreign-born with accents). He was also the only one who spoke to me in a not-too-fast customer-service-y manner. He took the time to chat with me for a minute and shared how he is probably the only locksmith around who has a walk-in store as well as a truck to travel to customer locations. --- When I arrived and put the file cabinet down in front of him, I was prepared to pay whatever it cost to get it open. Dan inspected it and immediately told me that it had to be around 50 years old. Then he fiddled with it for a couple of seconds and opened it. He announced, "It wasn't locked." I was stunned and stumped. It turns out that a certain latch merely needed to be moved a certain way to open the cabinet, but this was not obvious to me, so I never would've been able to open it. I thanked him and then asked what the charge would be. He said that there would be no charge at all. I was also surprised and stunned by that. I replied, "I insist on paying you something, because you got me out of a jam." He replied, "Okay, you can give me 5 bucks." Which I gladly paid him. Any other locksmith could've taken the cabinet out of view and made a bunch of noise while pretending to do some serious work on the cabinet to get it open, and then charged me $25 or $50. But Dan did not. He was as ethical and considerate as can be. I give him the utmost praise.
