    wonton chips

this is by far the best chinese food i've ever had. i ordered the house special tofu (which is basically just general tso's tofu) and it was also some of the best tofu i've ever had and i eat tofu basically every day. it was super crispy and it was very clear that they made the sauce from scratch. when i went, we were the only people there at the beginning and 2 other groups came in after so very quiet. the service here is excellent. my water was never less than half full and i must've gone through like 5 or 6 glasses. additionally, they gave us free wonton chips with duck sauce and some wasabi dipping sauce.

This is all the mostly undercooked batter that I had to scrape off in order to find my sesame shrimp.

I've been a customer of East Asia Restaurant for years and have always loved their food....especially my very favorite sesame shrimp. I ordered from them about 6 weeks ago and was SO disappointed! My sesame shrimp was awful....so much batter it was hard to find the shrimp! The brown sauce for my pan fried dumplings was actually some kind of very hot, spicy paste that was inedible. I thought maybe they were just having a bad night. Fast forward to tonight....again the sesame shrimp was AWFUL! Again....SO much batter (see pic of the pile I managed to scrape off). I'm afraid this is the new norm and must now find a different place to get my sesame shrimp fix

Okay so this is a difficult review to write. The food is 4 stars but everything else is meh so I'd give this review 3.5. My sushi meal (Miso, Salad, Huge roll) is always amazing! Fantastic fish, absolutely delicious soup and salad! I've had the tempura it's not great, their udon is super yummy as well! And my boyfriend had the orange chicken and it was fantastic. Food can be a little pricey but omg BEST SUSHI in southern Vermont. The service is fast! They're not super personable or chatty whatsoever but still very fast! The ambience is okay, it's usually a little cold in there and it can be a little bit drab but the food is so worth everything.

I have been to East Asia Cuisine many times and it is a great spot for lunch or dinner. The location is conveniently located in the middle of Rutland city, right across from Home Depot, with plenty of parking. There's plenty of indoor seating and it's fairly quiet around lunch time. The staff have always been very friendly and very attentive. The menu is huge, with plenty of Japanese or Chinese food options. It is priced reasonably as well. I usually get the sushi deluxe and seaweed salad (pictured), and both are pretty good quality. I was able to swap out the California roll for a spicy tuna roll. I love that before the food comes out they give you tempura chips with sweet and spicy sauces. Miso soup and peanut salad came before the sushi, and both were very good. I also ordered tea, and it was very nice since it was cold out. Overall, I definitely recommend East Asia Cuisine if you are looking for plenty of options and a decent meal. The atmosphere and decorations are a little dated, but the nice staff make up for it! Will be back again

Food has gone WAY downhill. Chef puts carrots in everything. Pad Thai was horrible- no peanuts, no herbs, no scallion, tons of carrots, scraggly chicken and it tasted like watered down tomato soup with hot peppers. Lo mein was horribly bland. Egg rolls were stale and really hard to eat.

They are overwhelmed for dinner, but once you get their attention you can get seated and the service is pretty attentive, although it came in spurts. They bring tea to the table along with water, which is nice. The hot and sour soup wasn't great. It tasted odd and didn't have much of the food stuff--bean curd, bamboo, egg. I'd pass next time. The crackers they serve with it tasted stale and pretty flavorless. The sesame chicken has a big buildup on the menu--white meat, a favorite of young and old alike, etc. it was decent. Freshly fried and actual white meat. It was not piping hot when it made it out. The mango beef was not great. It was a bit skimpy and the meat was grey and pretty hard. It was also not warm, room temperature at best. Steer clear of the beef generally.

Used to love this place, but I have been cured of that after my visit tonight. It began with slow, poor service, but I mentally forgave that. I chalked it up to inexperienced college student. Fork, no knife, no chop sticks. No mustard for the crispy wontons. No water refills. After having a bad day, I ordered something that sounded delightful which I had not tried yet, as a treat. It arrived looking only loosely like the description. I ate two scallops, 1 shrimp, scraped out the crab knuckles, with the knife I got mid meal. There was no lobster. The 1/2 thing I believe might have been a kind of shrimp had an odd taste. The traditional white sauce was so salty I would easily believe it was thickened sea water. I needed chapstick even with the little I ate. The veggies were probably a canned mix. In the end I enjoyed the rice, my fortune cookie, and an orange slice. Won't be back anytime in the foreseeable futur.

    This is the dinning room.

Food is mediocre. Service is not bad. Decoration is good. Bathroom is clean. Not a bad choice for a Chinese restaurant in Vermont.

Not sure if it was intentional or not but the soup tasted not only way too sour but also sweet. Almost like there was balsamic vinegar or a lot of sugar dumped into it and because of that, it was my least favorite item. I did really enjoy my boyfriend's crispy duck dish as it was probably the first time I had a duck dish at an Asian restaurant that didn't come with bones. The curry sauce was really unique and almost tasted like gravy. The actual broth of the wonton soup was tasty but the wontons themselves tasted frozen and doughy. The gentleman owner was extremely polite and courteous when we were placing our order.

This epic tale starts with a Chinese woman with hair curlers, sticking her hand out the front door of the restaurant asking for "Credit CAR!" Several times before my boyfriend finally gave her the phone to speak to me. My boyfriend and I decided that after work, we would celebrate his birthday with some Chinese take out and evening of simple pleasures but this experience takes the cake! After the woman decided to hang up on me once she got my "Credit Car" , my boyfriend grabbed the phone as she shooed him out the door with two large stapled brown mystery bags, and slammed it behind him. "The audacity!" He states. We thought, well with this kind of customer service the food must be amazing... So one could only have dreamt. We go to unbox this unorthodox version of what they call "Chinese food", that smelled and looked as if the garbage disposal regurgitated the previous order. Sadly, the food was such a disappointment the homeless crack head behind the restaraunt would return this monstrosity and shake the dust off his feet. The rice was soggy and was the lowest grade, this is coming from an Asian person, myself. The hunan beef tasted bland, no flavor but oily and possibly an old rubber heel of a shoe. The General Tsao chicken tasted mildly like Palmolive with a touch of spice. The Szechuan dumplings, looked undercooked and smothered in the nearest mud puddle of the street and the sauce didn't taste too far from it. The appetizers were over cooked and the boneless spare ribs was such a disappointment. How can you mess that up, you ask? Easy, overcook it, throw some unknown brown sauce and smother it in aunt Jemima syrup and rub in some old grease. The wonton soup was salty, very salty. What flavor they were trying to cover, I do NOT want to know. If you want a night of diabetes, unknown flavors of possible mop water and pure regret, get your food from Kong Chow Restaurant, which I would said kong CIAO b/c they will never see this cute Asian face again! All brought to you worth $57.75! Food was inedible but worth the bad experience just to share with you!

The food was good, and the hibachi chef was entertaining and professional. We were lucky to get seats by walking in after skiing when reservations were otherwise full. BUT, one extremely rude server ruined our experience. After the chef finished cooking, my drink still had not arrived, but our server was nowhere to be found. We politely asked a tall blond male staff member nearby if he could help us check on it. He immediately yelled at us loudly: "I'M NOT YOUR SERVER! FIND YOUR OWN SERVER!" A family sitting next to us saw this and talked to a manager for us. Our server later came and apologized, but we explained that the issue was not her fault--we were hoping for accountability from the staff member who yelled at us. Unfortunately, we were told that he would likely not apologize. We were offered one complimentary drink, but the situation itself was never properly addressed. Our server herself was polite, and we still left an 18% tip out of respect for her work. I think basic courtesy from all staff should be a minimum standard.
