Trust me when I say, the reviews are generally correct: Their dumplings are excellent! Their General Tso chicken is really bad. Some of their food tastes like cleaning solution. Their service is very good. The ambiance is nice. Additionally, their wonton soup was excellent, I wish they sold it in a large size instead of a small bowl. I went in for lunch and ordered the lunch General Tso chicken with wonton soup. The chicken did not taste fresh fried and I would venture to say it was frozen. The sauce was goopy and was not the sauce I have had with General Tso EVER before. Weird and I would not recommend at all. The fried rice looked great with minced pork and different veggies. It just didn't taste very Chinese. It was just ok. As I said the wonton soup was amazing! I also ordered food to including Drunken Noodles (pad kee mao) which did not taste anything like what I have had a million times before. It was ok but I would not order it again. The chicken and shrimp dumplings stole the show and were incredibly good as was the ginger tasting dipping sauce they came with! I will go back for those and also try the pork ones. Great Tangs is exactly what it says. GREAT! This is one of the best sushi and Japanese places in the entire area. It's hidden in the shopping center next to Price Choppers so you might not stop in. Do it! Sushi is so fresh. Tried about a dozen or so different t rolls over our visits and everyone was fresh and bursting with flavor. The Japanese entrées are off the charts. Certainly the best Chinese and Asian cuisine in the Saratoga area. We've been going here for years for eat-in and take-out. After a couple of years of doing take-out only due to COVID, they have renovated the dining area and re-opened for dining in with more seating than before. Everything we've ordered on the menu has been good. My favorites are the spicy Green Chicken Curry (Thai) and the chicken with eggplant. My son's favorite is the General's Chicken (which I also love). My wife often gets one of the shrimp or other seafood dishes, or the sushi/sashimi. They have a new fried sesame ball dessert which we just tried and was delicious. It's a great place to go before a SPAC show (which is just down the road). When we go there for classical shows and sit on the lawn, we often stop at Great Tangs for take-out and have a picnic (there's a liquor store next door and you can pick up some wine to take along). read more

I stopped in for a weekday late lunch, sushi menu only, and I was sorely disappointed, much more so than the dozen of other patrons happily enjoying themselves. I always try to sit at the sushi bar, just to talk with the chef(s), and admire their skills. The host initially offered me any seat, so I headed straight for the sushi bar, but unfortunately, THERE IS NO SEATING AT THE SUSHI BAR. It is not available because of the clutter of take-away containers, half-full Starbuck's cups and empty employee shift meal bowls. But more so, because of the SLEEPING EMPLOYEE at the end of the bar (photo). In truth, she was only sleeping for the first twenty minutes I was in the restaurant. Then she went back to work. Not necessarily a promising start. So I sat at the actual bar, close enough to observe the chef. I glanced through the menu, another multi-colored production, showcasing sushi photos probably downloaded from the internet. With a pretty limited amount of nigiri, I was surprised the did not serve the extremely-easy-to-produce tamago or inari. It was just as well, as my server was not familiar with the sushi menu, and I had to rudely shout over to the sushi chef for him to help the server with the order. And all I ordered was a handful of nigiri and a couple of maki. After a forgettable soup, the server brought over my main. I watched the chef confidently prepare my main - but during this time, he did not say a word to the sleeping employee in front of him. The plating of the main was simple enough without any decoration. Frozen and chemicals, always a good mix. And when I sampled a few of the salmon eggs of the ikura gunkanmaki, they did not taste fresh at all, and more than a few were wrinkled up little orange raisins. I chose to leave those on the plate. I have given this Chinese restaurant so many tries, but it never hits the mark, I'm sorry to say. A recent takeout order included: boneless ribs - there was more fat and gristle than meat; pork egg roll - more wrapper than filling and lastly, chicken chow fun noodles - bland to the taste and seemingly small portion in its container. This place has tremendous potential...they just need to work out some kinks. First - the location is great...in a large shopping center with plenty of parking. The interior is fairly small, but they did a nice job with making the most of the space. Very new, modern decor. Pop music plays in the background while various colored lights change behind the seating against the wall. They're definitely trying to do a lot here - the menu is a combination of Thai, Chinese and Japanese (sushi). Here's the good: -Food arrived VERY quickly (it was still early and only one or two other tables were seated) -Sushi was decent - tried a salmon/avocado roll and 2 pieces of salmon. Not "off the hook amazing", but good enough and on par with other Saratoga sushi places -They bring crispy noodles with duck sauce to the table to munch on. Very old school Chinese restaurant practice that brought me back to the old days. -I had the Hawaiian rice - very tasty - served with jumbo shrimp, scallops, shredded crab and pineapple. Very "sweet and sour-y". -The Thai Green curry was excellent - great flavor and had a really good kick. -Portions are generous -Fortune cookies are provided at the end of the email -Great for take-out; saw several large orders head out the door. What needs to be tweaked: -Service was spotty (even though the food came out so fast)- took some time to get someone to the table initially...and we sat for a while when we finished. Also saw that there were a few issues at another table (that didn't receive everything that they had ordered). -The green curry was really good - but it had tofu in it (as well as the chicken). It should say that on the menu b/c the person that ordered it has a soy sensitivity (she can't eat tofu). -While I enjoyed the Hawaiian rice, there were 2 pieces of shrimp that were a little funky. Now...it could be that it was the way it tasted with this particular sauce...but it wasn't all of the shrimp that I tasted. Momentarily freaked me out but I got through it and I'm fine today. I ordered lunch for takeout about a half hour ago. I thought it was weird when I watched the gentleman packing my take out order literally flip my sushi container upside down. The roll completely fell apart and the slices were all different sizes. My General Tsos chicken was soggy and not crispy at all. It also didn't taste anything like General Tsos. Restaurant has no waiting area for takeout so everyone has to freeze with the door open. Cashier had no clue how to use the register and kept needed help. The experience was only topped by the orange chicken with no flavor at all when General Tsao's chicken was ordered. Good Chinese food. We get the basics which are very good here compared to others we have tried in the area.

I will start by saying that their food is excellent! We're from Brooklyn. We love Chinese food. This stuff is he real deal. With that being said, I will give them 5 stars when their service improves. We've been here multiple times. The staff is nice. However, you will come in a single person, and leave a grandparent. That's how long you will be waiting for your food. On some occasions, we've received our food in a timely manner. On others, we watched as people who called in their orders filter in and out, and people who were seated after us get their meals first. We once had to leave after an hour and a half of no food! Yup. That long. Tonight, we waited over 45 minutes. And some things never arrived at all. Fix the service, and you'll be fine. read more

Finally! A place in Saratoga with good Chinese food!!!! We have been up here 4 years and have tried at least 10 different places and ended up the same way. Headache, bloat and that greasy stomach ache. This was the first time we tried Great Tang's and the food was out of this world. The restaurant was very clean too. Sometimes when you go to a place and they do sushi you can smell the fish? Nope. Not one weird smell. We got the coconut shrimp (shrimp tempura with a coconut dipping sauce), fried chicken shrimp wontons, combo meals of sweet and sour shrimp and General Tso's chicken. It's all white meat (not mystery meat). Fresh food. You can taste in the quality that they are no joke. I'm so glad that we found you guys. We have been trying sushi places in the Saratoga/Ballston Spa region, and Great Tang's is substantially the best place. Coming from a larger city we have frequented hundreds of different Japanese and Chinese restaurants, and this place ranks comfortably in our top 5. The prices are reasonable, especially given the portions (the $8 general tao's lunch special is a massive portion). The sushi has been fresh and delicious every time - we've gone about 5 times now on different days/times of day, with no quality drop off. The complimentary Chinese crackers at the beginning of the meal is a nice touch. The place is very well done, and immaculately clean. The coconut shrimp was almost perfect. The one hang up I had was the fact that they put lettuce under the shrimp which ofcourse was soggy with coconut sauce. This is my favorite sit down Chinese restaurant in the Saratoga Springs/Ballston Spa/Glens Falls area. Unlike in downtown Saratoga Springs, the parking here is easy. There large public lot with plenty of empty spots anytime of day. Great Tang's does not deliver. It is for set up for eating in or take out. The interior is new and modern, with subdued lighting. I always sit at the counter, and I am usually the only one sitting there. There is a big screen TV behind the counter. The men's room is spotless. Service varies. There can be a language barrier to some degree, so it is important to be specific about your order. SInce I sit at the counter, I may need to signal that I need something because they are usually busy with other things behind the counter (including take outs). The menu is standard Chinese fare. Portions are good sized, food quality is above average. The fried rice is a little on the moist and soggy side. Hot mustard is very hot. For $7 or $8 ($10 with tax and tip) you can get a lunch special consisting of main dish, fried rice and egg roll that is quite filling. The dinner menu is also a good value. They also serve sushi.
