WOW! It's been years since I have done a review here! This is one of the very few places I'm able to eat at with my vegetarian mandatory low sodium diet! They are so accommodating, helpful and answer all my questions! We got pretty frequently because of this and even celebrated my birthday there, which they didn't know! We always start with the carrot ginger salad & DH gets the miso soup which a get a lil taste of. Which is followed by avocado roll and I almost always get the Yaki Udon. We dined in on NYE and had an overall great experience. Understandably it was packed and our main entrees took some time to come out but our appetizer (which came out fast) held us over until it was ready. The staff were super friendly and thankful for our patience during the rush. The food was worth the wait and we would visit again! Side note - Do not make a reservation using the auto Google tool. Skiing In killington for the week, food options are slim, especially Asian pleased to say this place delivered. If you don't like raw fish, not to worry. Their cooked food is very good. My favorite was the beef negimaki and fried chicken katsu. We got a giant love boat and the sushi was good. Not the best, but we enjoyed it. If I were to come back I would probably just order a few rolls and stick to that. If you live around here, chances are you will inevitably come here. read more

This was my first sushi foray in the area.. The staff was super friendly, sat at the small sushi bar at the back of the very clean nicely appointed dining room and started to order. Salmon, Saba, and Hamachi sushi were all very nicely prepared and tasted great... the saba was not as pickled or flavorful as I am used to in L.A. but it was still very nice.... Some good but slightly bland miso soup, Topped it off with a king crab roll which tasted great except for the nori which was very chewy giving the impression the roll had been made beforehand and just got pulled out of the fridge. I get it, we're not in the land of endless world class sushi, for my first foray into small town VT sushi (lolol) I was pleasantly surprised I will definitely be back and would drag along some friends. also very reasonably priced for the quality. read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]the decor of this place is super cute[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] and they were pretty busy when i went (friday night) so for more popular times a reservation would be appropriate. i ordered the inari (tofu skin sushi), chicken tempura roll, and sweet potato tempura roll. no complaints about the sweet potato and inari, they were both up to par. the chicken tempura roll was lacking flavor. my boyfriend ordered the chicken yakitori and he couldn't finish it because of how dry it was. the staff was nice, but after we got our food we were completely ignored, even when we tried to wave someone down, in favor of larger parties/regulars. they had those little candies though so that partially makes up for it. it was a good experience, but we had heard great things about this place so we were a little disappointed! read more

Amazing service and food! Went here 2 times this season, and were impressed both times. The food was really good, my family's favorite is the Chicken Katsu because it's juicy and flavorful. Upon sitting, you will get a small bowl of miso soup--perfect after skiing. We ordered Green Tea Ice Cream, it was delicious because it tasted great and the texture was rich like Gelato. Also, the servers were exceptional. We asked if we can have our Angel Sushi (very tasty by the way) with spicy mayo, and they gave us a ton. Waiters were friendly and helpful. I gave Tokyo House 4 stars because everything was great but I thought the Chicken Teriyaki bento weren't as good as the chicken katsu, and their Yakisoba was dry. I meet friends here once a month or so, mostly for lunch --it is a pretty place with a calm and whimsical ambiance (check out the jellyfish lights over the sushi bar). Nice high booths lend a feeling of privacy and keep the noise down even when it's bustling, which it often is. Friendly service and always nice food - lots of interesting sushi rolls and all the basics (bento boxes, udon, tempura, etc.). A little something for everyone at reasonable prices, and a great option for lunch or dinner. read more

Came here on a whim with my twin sis and 3 (almost 4) year old nephew when we were out shopping. Like many restaurants in downtown Rutland, Tokyo House was a pleasant surprise! We were seated right away, and the atmosphere is nice and sunny during the day. You really wouldn't notice that you're right next to the bus station/municipal parking lot unless you were looking for it. Everything was clean and the chopsticks come pre-broken so you don't have to do it. For some reason, I can never get a clean break when I do it. For an appy I got the beef negimaki, it was delicious but had a bit too much teriyaki sauce on it. Next time I may kindly ask for them to dial it down some. Sis got the avocado salad and it looked delicious. Very fresh avocado and the ginger dressing was good. For mains, I got the Philly roll, sis got the Salmon Avocado (yes we are technically millennials) roll, and my nephew got the chicken Katsu, which came recommended by the waiter when asked for something mild for a kid. The rolls were very good and came out quickly, but not suspiciously quick as they do in other establishments. The chicken Katsu is essentially a Panko breaded and lightly fried chicken. It tasted fresh without the use of too much oil. You can tell the oil was fresh, there was no fishy or off taste to it. I also day drank and had a couple glasses of the house Cabernet at $6 a pop. It really isn't too bad, I've had worse for more $ when dining out. All told, the total was $45 plus tax and tip. Not a bad value at all and less than what a meal of this caliber would set you back in a big city! Service was good, fast and polite. Many other folks came in after we did, some to dine in and others to take out. I will say the restrooms are in a hallway in another part of the building and you need to get a token (they have a basket of tokens by the sushi bar) for entry. This is probably to keep out the riff raff which is understandable, especially given some of the unfortunate issues that happen everywhere but Rutland gets a bad rap for. The restrooms were clean. While Japanese food isn't my favorite, I'll definitely return here when in the area. It's a great stop for lunch or dinner that won't break the bank or take up hours of your time. read more

First visit was great. Second, very different experience. So, last year I ate there with my ski partner. Food was great, prices reasonable and service was pleasant. One year later, a totally different experience. I don't think we will be back. We made reservations for a Saturday night. We arrived a few minutes early and were seated a bit after our reservation. No issues there. We had not been at the table for 2 minutes when waiter 1 asks for drink order. I said give us a couple of minutes to look at drink menu. He gave us that, 2 minutes. We give him a drink order and he asks what we want for dinner. I said we would wait for our drinks and look the menu. Before drinks come out waiter 2 comes by and asks what we want. We told her we waiting for drinks and we are still looking at menu. Drinks come and then waiter 3 stops at table to get food order. This is less than 15 minutes from seating us. At this point we are getting tired of being asked for food order so we order a house special roll and another appetizer. We told the waiter we would put dinner order in when appetizers came. Before the appetizer came we were again asked what we wanted for dinner. I actually lost count of the number times each waiter came to the table to take the order. There was only one party waiting for table. I have never been rushed to order like that ever. Needless to say we ordered dinner and those arrived before we had finished our appetizers. I ordered the spicy salmon, Vegas and volcano. Spicy salmon was basic, not much salmon in it to be honest and a lot more sauce. Vegas roll and volcano was good. I would have given this place a 3 star but our waiter who was a gentleman, short black hair, 6ft+, skinny fellah really didn't have the best table side manner. He took over 10-15mins to get our order (just the drinks) once our food was delivered, he barely gave me any soy sauce and never came back to check up on us (I wanted to request more soy sauce). Then after he eventually arrived 30mins later we went to get our check and it honestly took another 20mins to just get the check. We came in at 6pm for a party of 2 for 4 rolls and left at 7:20pm.
