"You can't buy happiness, but you can buy wine!"
...This is the same thing, right? *wink*
Easley Winery is right across the street from Sun King Brewery, and we all know my love for our craft beer King. I may as well just call Easley Winery our beautiful queen next door. Indianapolis really has nailed the trio down for craft beer, cider, and wine (Sun King, New Day, Easley). I truly consider them the "Golden Trio" of delicious adult beverages and delight, all right here in Indianapolis, Indiana!
Easley has it's basic reds and whites, as well as some neat pleasures like wine made from honey and mulled wine. Also, they have the Reggae Wines that you can get there as well as at grocery stores even in Indiana. They are a fun twist party branded style wine. Very sweet if you like sweet wines - Also, they have cool recipes for each one of what you can mix it with and what fruit to put on top you will feel like you are on the beach in no time!
My favorite visits to Easley are always getting a wine flight tour for a simple $5offering 7 tastings of your choice. The staff are skillful in describing the wine and also serving them to you in the correct order of dryness to sweetness to not spoil your palate for the next tastings.
My favorite find here is the Mulled Wine. I am very guilty over the past year (summer included) of probably purchasing a grand total equaling up to 4 cases! I swear, if there wasn't alcohol in a beverage, this would be me pretty much having a holiday season year round, or just drinking it like it was Kool-Aid... As much as I want! (But, since it is wine, I have to be a responsible adult here!)
What is Mulled Wine? Well, I learned this straight up from a German fella. He raved about Christmas Season in Germany when all the ladies and gents walk around the outdoor markets & holiday shop. Winter is cold and the ladies love to carry around & drink their warm "Gluhwein." We looked all over online, and there really is no actually word translation of Gluhwein to anything in English. However, thanks to the Yelp Bazaar poster 2013 featuring "Mulled Wine - A European Style Tradition" I asked about it and BOOM, right on Easley. You rock my life here in Indiana and have been my means to impress others from around the WORLD! America welcomes others and much wine is from around the world imported to here. Easley makes Gluhwein right here in America. Mulled wine is served warm, and it's a spiced red wine. I haven't ever had anything like it, but it is absolutely delicious. I am an American, but my four deceased grandparents were from Poland & Holland. Germany is smack in the middle. So this American girl here has some European Roots at her core. The more I learn the culture of the world by lifestyle, dining habits/cuisine, and drinks... I know there must be some European roots flowing in my blood. I love a lot of diverse stuff, but the Mulled Wine at Easley is my favorite. It is also the ONLY one I have found. I have packets mailed from this German Gentleman to mix in to red wine (like a powder pack of seasoning/spices to mix into a glass of red wine) and it's a horrible fix of desperation! I mean, I don't care where it is from - imagine a desperate attempt to fix a mulled wine craving by taking like a ten dollar bottle of Malbec, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Merlot, or whatever and mixing some powder into your wine (clearly I won't buy an expensive wine to mix powder into trying to make it something else and then finish by microwaving it! (Yes, feel free to laugh at me. This really happened. Leave it to me to be ridiculous & adventurous. This one didn't work out!) The final lesson is proven, tried, & true... Mulled Wine is NOT Kool-Aid or even close. It ONLY goes down that well & equally delicious with double the happy bonus since it is wine. Who loves a drink? I do, I do! Who is always cold and loves warm stuff? I do, I do!
Easley staff, pricing, creativity, tastes, offerings, and community appearances are all always 5/5. I have been waiting to write this review, and it needed to happen. How can I buy so much of one wine from one place and continually do so? I am so happy with Easley and I hope they keep the "Gluhwein" being Mulled Wine here forever on their menu. I'll buy out the store. It's really a seasonal thing, however I drink it year round. Also, a tip... It was a great hit for about 12 Christmas gifts I gave this year. Everyone loved it. Most people like wine, if not, they certainly know someone who does. You can't really go wrong gifting wine! Thank you Easley! You have the REAL BOTTLED stuff, and you make it yourself. My powder desperate "create my own Gluhwein" days are over! Easley Winery keeps me happy at tastings, holidays, winter warmer evenings, Christmas gifts, and much more.
