We reached out to Earlybird Electric in summer 2023 to get a free estimate for an electrical panel replacement. The estimator, Adam, showed up on time and was courteous to start, but it quickly became clear he was trying to take advantage of me with me being a woman (that's how I viewed it, at least). He was super pushy and tried to get me to agree to have Earlybird do the work on our panel ASAP. I told him I would need to think about it and talk about it with my partner before making any decisions, which I would do with any large investment like this. He kept pushing though and trying to scare me into agreeing to do the work right then and there. He wouldn't seem to take no for an answer. He'd say things like, "well if you commit to this now, I can give you 5, 10 % off..." I stood my ground though, I got him to leave. I truly do feel like he wouldn't have talked to me this way if I were a man or had a "husband" present with me. We ended up hiring another electrician that was not pushy at all, informative, and treated me with respect. read more

John Henderson, a Master Electrician, solved my problem with my older fridge causing the GFI on my year-old electric circuit breaker panel to switch off for my fridge one wall outlet and stove. He switched by circuit to a non-GFI and put in a GFI in my wall outlet. So now the circuit has GFI but the fridge no longer causes it to shut off. A terrific experience! read more

I was shocked to see so many bad Yelp reviews for EarlyBird Electric when there are over 2k positive reviews on Google! We had a bathroom exhaust fan installed in January. Branden came out to quote the project within 3 days of my initial inquiry. He was SO THOROUGH. Before leaving he asked if there were any other electrical projects we might want him to quote and we asked him about 2-3 other projects. After receiving the quote, Peter was out to do the actual electrical work within a week. He was very professional and did a great job patching the wall where he had to make a hole. I've had other contractors do less-than-ideal patching so I was very impressed that he patched the hole so that it looks like he didn't cut in at all! I did a price check on the products I had installed and noted that I was severely overcharged by over $1000. I was charged $89.99 for each recessed light (I had 9 replaced, for a total charge of $808.91) that costs $14.00 each at Home Depot. That is a price difference of $678.68 if you include $100 for labor for less than 30 minutes of work. I was also charged $727.00 for a whole-house surge protector that normally costs $100 plus labor. Another $527.00 difference if you factor in $100 for labor for less than 30 minutes of work. I paid over $1500+ for products and work that should have cost around $400-$500 with labor. That is a severe overcharge of $1000-$1100. I contacted the company and was told this is for a 1-year warranty. I am not happy at all with the response. They will over charge you. Go somewhere else. I had them come out because my outlet when out. My circuit was tied to the wrong spot and I did not know that they reset it by flicking a switch and charge me $500. I am sure they would have found a way to charge me if they could but cannot possible say it was a quick fix I'll charge x. Dont trust them. read more

We got our service upgraded to a 200 amp service and were charged about 10k. We did have to get a new mast but from other estimates this was very high. they also shipped materials to our house without telling us, and had to reschedule the install so we were sitting on them for several weeks. The permitting process and last steps of getting our electrical moved to the new mast were never made super clear to us so over a year after install, the power coming into the house is still connected with lugs and tape. They left materials in the yard as well. Absolutely shame on me for not getting multiple quotes, I read the google reviews and I agree theres a massive disconnect with the reviews there versus here. Would not recommend and really regret having them do the work. read more

I had an outlet/switch setup next to the kitchen sink. I was given a shock once, called for them to repair as I had the 'free service call' coupon from Valu Pak. Nate came out within the 2 hour window, but with no notice of when he would be there. Charged $300 to replace one switch and add a ground wire to the switches. One star because I was happy to have electricity in my bathroom again. No more stars because I feel I was price gouged. I've used Early Bird Electric in the past with great satisfaction. Early Bird would send one person to my house, who diagnosed and fixed the problems quickly and charged a reasonable and fair amount. This time, however, it was different. In August, while getting ready for overseas guests, I tripped an outlet in the living room and successfully reset the button at the electric panel. Later, I noticed the bathroom light, fan and kitchen light were not working, so I again tried to fix it at the panel. Nothing worked, so I called Early Bird Electric and made an appointment. I was surprised when a Blue Ox van showed up and two people came instead of one. It didn't take long to figure out that I had not moved the trip button all the way to the left. The problem was solved with a flip of a switch. Calculating the fee, they reasoned about 45 minutes for each of them plus the fix. The initial bill was over $500, but they reduced it to $409 after waiving the dispatch fee. I paid it, but refused to give a review at the time, grateful to have everything working again and feeling like a fool for not knowing the trip switch trick. $409 dollars for two men to flip one switch! It's bothered me ever since, feeling that I was taken advantage of (maybe because I am a senior woman), so I finally decided to write a review. While composing this, I looked at other Early Bird Electric reviews and was surprised to find a great number of 1 star reviews (mostly on Yelp) which describe situations very similar to my experience. I had an electrical issue at my 4plex on 2/7/24. Initially I was quoted a service fee of $179 on top of whatever repair needed to be done. I told them I would look else where and then w/n 30 minutes they called back and said the manager approved a reduced service fee of $89 which would be less repair if I used their service. Two service guys showed up and told me it would be a minimum of $420 because the neutral and some circuits looked like they had to be replaced. In the end they said they tightened the neutral and that fixed the outlet/switch issue in the unit. The electricians also said that there looked to be water damage in my electrical box and multiple circuits should be replaced in the future for a total of over $3k! Please note, this is a 550 sq foot unit with no more than 6 circuits in the box. Because I was concerned with the safety of my tenants, I had another company give me an estimate on 2/12/24 and the units lights were flickering again. This company replaced a 15amp breaker with a GFCI and said there was no water damage to the main and I didn't need a new box. He also said the 20amp breakers were sharing a neutral and were connected individually which was incorrect, so he corrected the issue. He also said he had to tighten another neutral. He was there for approximately an hr and charged $375. Since 2/20/24 there have been no issues. I sent email on 2/21 to Early Bird explaining how they did not fix the problem and seemed to take advantage of me and I would appreciate some type of credit...crickets. I am fine with paying a service fee but the fact that nothing was solved for more than a week, I feel robbed. Hence, this is why I will write this review and repost on Google, FB and X. He latched on to us being new homeowners and figured we weren't smart enough to know anything! Tried to sell us a brand new breaker box and installation for $10,000. The electrician will charge you for the time he thinks the job will take, not what it actually takes. For example, he did not know what was wrong in the first minute or so and said "I could be here 4 hours trying to figure this out. I need $500 to make it worth my time. If it takes me less than that I will charge less. Sign here." Like a desperate idiot, I did. He was finished in 30 minutes and all he did was press a reset switch. Still charged me $500 and the worst part is it didn't even fix my problem. When I plugged things back in the switch immediately tripped again, he did not find the root cause. Our neighbors electrician quoted $3500 for the same job and our new electrical quoted $4000. They essentially charged $600/hr and when questioned gave every excuse. Wow!!! I'm so impressed!!!! GOLD STAR to Zac and the Early Bird Electric office staff!! Making the appointment was easy and we were able to schedule within just a few days of calling. Today, we had Zac out to our house to put up a ceiling fan and replace a light fixture. He was amazing!! Super friendly, knowledgeable, personable and was fun to chat with while he worked. He did his work in a very efficient manner without cutting any corners and I love how everything turned out. I couldn't have asked for anything more!!! My husband and I both thought that the cost of the work was very reasonable, as well! Lastly, but most importantly, Zac arrived right on time and sent a text letting me know he was on his way about 20 minutes ahead of time. I truly appreciated the text as it included when he would be arriving, a little information about his background and a picture of himself. I knew what to expect and when to expect it! I needed some remote control units replaced in 3 ceiling fans and called this company. They require a service call before giving a quote (no over the phone estimates) which carries a service charge whether they do the work or not. When the technician arrives they give you 3 quotes - budget, middle, and high end. I went with the middle option which included some recommended work to update my box. I take full responsibility for not asking the correct questions here - so bad on me. I made assumptions based on my lack of knowledge about the finer points of electrical work (specifically the recommended box work) and based on what the tech said I was thinking this was a big (and necessary for safety) job. I provided the units for the fans. The company provided the 2 outlets (.38 at Home Depot) and the 2 arc fault breakers ($45 at HD). From start to finish the tech was at my home a total of 2 hours. So if you look at the receipt and do the math I ended up paying this company $600/hour for work that basically included plugging things in. No matter how you cut it, that pricing is outrageous. As I said, bad on me for not asking the right questions. Bad on them for taking advantage. Update: the day after posting this review the company called me concerned that I was unhappy with my experience. They offered me a refund of $171.00. That brings the hourly rate closer to $500/hour. I don't think these reviews are legitimate. My property manager called Earlybird when the power to a fourplex went down. Dave D. came out and made us an estimate for $60,000. We called Choice Electric the next day and they got right to work and as you can see from the bill I included below they charged $1,300 after 2 hours of work. The cost to get the Earlybird estimate was 2 hours time at $250/hour, a total of $500 just for the estimate. I think Earlybird is only a telephone exchange for electricians who pay to be on it, without any management. When I called to talk to David D. they couldn't put me through because they had no idea who he was. If you look closely at the the reviews on Google and Trustpilot, they have suspicious similarities to other false reviews seen around the internet. The reviews here on Yelp seem more genuine. I believe Earlybird has purchased the reviews and have cleverly arranged for their website to show up first in internet searches. Use Earlybird with caution. The reviewer who says EarlyBird essentially charged $600/hr? That's pretty much exactly what happened to us. Small job: install bathroom fixture (wiring in place, old fixture already removed) and check non-working outdoor fixture. Total time at our house was maybe 45 minutes, definitely less than an hour. Got charged $570. Regrettably, I paid, but had serious second thoughts. They eventually offered to install a new outdoor fixture (purchased by us) for free, but after scheduling this work, I stayed home all day on the scheduled day and they never showed / never called. Granted, the guy who did the initial work was friendly and fast. But what he charged me was outrageous and the company's bungled follow-up was insulting. I recommend avoiding this company. read more

What everyone says about this place is true. They came in and were really pushing upsales that weren't necessary. The price was so high and the electrician kept telling me how he wasn't gonna charge me for something but would charge extra for something else. He also put their company sticker on our fusebox without our permission. We found someone else that's been doing this live of work for 35 years and got everything to code for half the price that early bird was charging. I wouldn't recommend this place. Where do I begin? We had them cancel service on us initially. We were not informed of said cancelation until I called after the allotted service window had passed. So, understanding that things happen we rescheduled for the following Monday as we were on a deadline to complete the work. Monday comes. The 8 to 10 window passes. I call again. The technician is late on another job. Again, I understand that things happen and ask that they make sure to inform us if there will be any additional charges in the schedule as we are repositioning our schedules and lives around for these appointments. The technician shows up 2 hours later. Really nice guy. Seems to know what he's talking about. Says that he can't complete the job today since the line we need run passes through a storage unit in the basement that he needs access to. (Multi-unit building.) Says he can get everything ready and be back first thing the next day 8 to 10 am to complete the work if we can get the storage unit open to access. Again, we're on a deadline so I agree so long as it is completed the next day. I'm given professional assurance and I put 20% down for the job. The Job was not done. There's more. The next day comes. 8 am I call to get a confirmation of the service to be done that day. Informed that the technician will be here toward the latter part of the service window. I say that's okay and reiterate that we need this to be completed this morning and if there are any other changes to the schedule that we are notified. At 10:30 I call again. The technician is running behind and will be here at 11:30. 11:46 I call again. Remember I asked that we be notified of any changes to the schedule. The technician will be here at 1:30. I ask, "will he actually?" the dispatcher cannot confirm. We decide to call another company as at this point I am concerned that the service will not be done today and we are very nervous. We call Advantage Electric. They show up within 30 minutes and begin work right away. They even point out that the wires we were told run through the storage unit we needed to access by the first technician are not the correct wires and are accessible from the same room... I call EarlyBird to say that we are going to need to cancel service because we have no confidence that a technician is coming in spite of their assurances that one is on his way. I ask to be refunded for our 20% down and this is refused due to "restocking fees". No work was done. Do not use EarlyBird Electric. Use Advantage Electric. They may cost a little more but they'll actually show up when they say they will and get your job done. read more

Stay away. I had them come out to repair a problem with the fuse box. The person who booked the service said there would be a $79 travel fee. -Fair enough, professionals are selling their time. The electrician poked around for 5 minutes, glanced at the fuse box, not listening to what I was telling him, and then told me that he would need to charge $430 to troubleshoot and fix my problem ( a similar service call three years back took that electrician 20 minutes). I called this company, and was very straight up about the fact that I am a senior with no money. I told them that because I am such low income I qualify for Emergency Assistance through Hennepin County. I told them I needed two bids to give to them and Hennepin County would choose the lowest bid. Their guy came out and convinced me that pretty much my outlets would have to be redone and probably my entire electrical system which he told me was out of "code". He told me he was doing $700. worth of trouble shooting. He dissed the electrical work I just had done in my garage, and told me that they (the previous electrician) had not rewired anything. (Mice ate some of my wires in my garage). He told me that he would have to talk with his manager and decide what they were going to do. When I never heard back from them, I called and asked if they would be sending the bid I needed for Hennepin County...turns out, as was rudely communicated to me, that they wanted now to charge me and get paid up front for assessing the job. I told her that I had been very clear about how emergency assistance works...and if I qualified for emergency assistance, where would I get this up front money? I told her to forget it...so now it has been two weeks without power. Do not use this company. Even if I had a six figure income, I would not use this company. I set -up an appointment for yesterday. They called me the day prior to confirm. They did not show up for the appointment. 20 minutes after the appointment time I contacted them. They state; they tried to call me and got no answer so they left a message. And they state since there was no answer, they decided not to come to the appointment. The number they called does not have a answer machine so there was no way for them to leave a message. Secondly I was waiting for 3 hours for them to show up. Electrical Sean Tyson came out to my house today and I have never been treated so rudely in my life and I was a property manager for 15 years and dealt with contractors hourly. He 1. was generally rude in both tone of voice and mannerisms 2. Would not listen and shamed me when I mentioned what I preferred to have done 3. Insulted his own office staff when I mentioned what I was originally told by the office staff about what would be done and what to expect by saying "They don't know anything , I am the electrician." 4. Mentioned that he would charge a lot more than another contractor I would possibly hire before I even mentioned anything about cost 5. Snapped at me when I said that I gave the office staff my payment information already and said "Credit cards on file are only for emergencies, you need to provide a new credit card today." 6. Would not generally listen at all to what I wanted to have done and said that he was an electrician with "12 years of experience." Well, he needs to take several customer service classes. The initial call to the office was friendly and courteous. She asked questions so she knew exactly what we needed to be done. Dan came to the house to learn specifically what we needed so he could give an accurate quote. We set a date, and the team of Ian, Adam, and Brian showed up on time and reviewed what we needed before beginning work. They completed all work correctly and in a timely manner. They were respectful of our home and cleaned every area of work. Although they were fast and steady workers, they still took a little time to chit chat and have a few laughs. "I can take a quick look at it for you" apparently qualifies as a go-ahead to charge me whatever they want for what they considered to be a separate job.
