After sharing our experience with other contractors & employees of Home Depot (just to ensure our dissatisfaction was warranted) they recommend we make our negative experience public so others don't go through the same thing. After researching on Home Advisor & seeing many positive reviews we decided to hire Sunflake Electrical to perform some basic electrical work around our home. · Main issues: o Exhaust Fan - installed but the hole was cut too large for the new fan. The electrician admitted to cutting a hole despite strategically purchasing the new fan based on existing opening size. o Kitchen Light - we did not purchase the correct light in advance & told the electrician not to proceed with installation. While at Home Depot getting other supplies he proceeded to install a non-approved light fixture, leaving us with an off centered light fixture. As the icing on the cake, we are also left with a jagged opening next to the off centered light fixture we did not choose. o Lastly, if the installation of other services would have gone smoothly, it would have also been easier to look past the mess we were left to clean up. · We shared the photos with the owner and he felt the electrical work had been done properly, and would be happy with the work in his own home. SEE PHOTOS. · We gave the owner multiple opportunities to "make this right" but his solution was for us to pay another one of his employees a flat rate of $250 to fix the two jagged holes. We are left with a jaded outlook on anyone coming to our home to complete repairs. Bottom line, avoid Sunflake Electrical! ADDITIONAL CONTEXT BASED ON OWNERS RESPONSE: Sunflake Owner: "Once the fan was completed, our electrician cleaned up the drop cloth that he had initially laid out and began cleaning the bathroom. The husband said he could clean the rest, so we proceeded to start the installation of the light." Response: Yes, the electrician laid a drop cloth on our bathroom floor that partially covered the floor (not the sink, vanity, toilet, etc.), and yes I offered to clean up the mess - the reason being, at this point the job had already taken longer than expected, and this was a matter of cost-savings. When replacing the kitchen light fixture, no drop cloth was used, and I was worried about all the debris falling into our garbage disposal, which luckily did not stop our garbage disposal from functioning properly. Sunflake Owner: "The customer asked to provide their own parts. We are totally fine with that at Sunflake." "If it had been a mistake on our part, we would have fixed the drywall no questions asked." Response: We are first time home owners, leaning on what we thought would be competent, trusted professionals to guide us in the right direction - not to receive an unfinished job and then be blamed for "our shortcomings." My wife ran to Home Depot mid-service to get additional parts for the duct work. The existing fan was already removed. She reviewed the previously purchased fan with the electrician at the start of the appointment but could have easily purchased another fan before installation. The light fixture installed was provided by Sunflake, because our two attempts to purchase something that work failed. My wife instructed the electrician to rehang the old fixture but he proceeded to install a light fixture he had on hand - which the owner also blames us for. Sunflake Owner: "Hopefully an intelligent consumer realizes the excellent value they received on this job and gives us a chance to earn their business." Response: The icing on the cake... not only does Sunflake Electrical perform an unfinished job, the owner then insults a paying customer by more or less calling us unintelligent. I truly hope that others steer clear of Sunflake Electrical, don't believe their higher ratings you see out on the internet.

I still contact other companies for estimates to compare, as I always do when contracting work on my home, but American comes in well under every time. This past week they were out here running an extremely long conduit to wire a hot tub, and while at it they wired our new sauna as well. We even had an issue where we needed to get the tub's breakers from our old house to install here, and John sent another electrician over to do that immediately. I'd had another well-rated company come out for an estimate and they quoted $6,500 just for the hot tub. American did that plus the sauna plus getting those parts from across town for less than half that and got it done in half a day.

I am grateful for the misunderstanding, in that it revealed who I would ultimately be giving my business to, & consider it an opportunity for someone who's character is more aligned with my own, & perhaps more deserving of the business. I'm a business owner myself, and I wouldn't have conducted myself in the manner I was faced with based on a misunderstanding- which happens in every industry (countless times in my own profession, & with other contractors I've hired)- the way I was here. Perhaps the owner was having a bad day, in which I wish him better days ahead.

He was able to run the wires without having to knock extra holes in our wood lath and plaster walls which was awesome. The cost was reasonable and he was very efficient in getting the work done. He was also able to walk through the routing and location placement with us to make sure that he would be able to do the work and it would suit our needs. Additionally when called about follow up questions he responded to our questions in hours not days. Definitely calling him back when we have more electrical work to do in the house.

We bought an 85-year-old house and that means one thing - galvanized pipes. I know a plumber back east and he told get rid of the "galvi" ASAP. Um, ok. So I called a few plumbers. Some were really cheap, like do the math and you wonder it takes X days and Y material, how do you stay in business? Another big shop in town was very expensive and seemed like they were adding little things here and there to the estimate. Erickson's guy, Mike, was very nice and was thorough and was clear on not needing things that the other high-priced shop proposed. He explained the residential codes to me and why I did not need certain things. He did preface that this was not going to be cheap. He walked through all the things that needed to be done and how long it took and I realized that this was going to take several days of someone working all day and knocking out walls and ceilings. This was a big project. Their estimate was expensive, but still about 15% lower than one of the other big guys in town. But, I got a good feeling about them. So I gave Erickson the work. They came in an installed pex and ripped out all the galvanized across 3 floors of my house. They did an excellent job and would not hesitate having them back in the future.

Unfortunately I have to write a negative review of Erickson Plumbing. We called about not getting…read morehot water, only lukewarm water, and the first plumber that came out said it was not the water heater and proceeded to change a cartridge in our master shower and charged us $800 for it, which is astronomical for changing a cartridge. He also broke the handle of the shower, reversed the hot and cold directions, and did not tell us it broke. The problem persisted and we continued to have lukewarm water. I called the company and they sent another guy out and he said that our handle was reversed from hot to cold and maybe I had just been using the wrong direction for hot water. Readers, I am not an idiot and know very well what direction is hot and cold in my own shower and what changed with the plumber. He didn't know what the problem was either. I called Erickson and they asked if they could make it right. I made it clear that I will not pay another dime and I expected money back if it ended up being an issue that would have cost me less than $800. They verbally agreed over the phone. They agreed they had misidentified the issue and it was on them to fix it. Erickson sent out a THIRD plumber and he looked at our water heater, said it was a pipe that needed cleaned out, cleaned it out and et voila, we had hot water so it was an easy fix. Afterwards I called to settle with them and see what they could refund me since it did end up being an easy fix and not worth a whopping $800. They refused to refund any of the $800 saying they had spent a lot of time on the issue and going back on their word and original mea culpa that it was their issue and pledge to make it right with me. It should absolutely not be on my dime if they couldn't figure out the problem until the third try and they also absolutely took me for a ride charging me $800 to begin with. I worked with them on good faith to fix the problem expecting them to make it right with me in the end since they were at fault for misidentifying the issue, not fixing it, charging me $800 for not fixing it, and breaking my handle at that. They would not budge and would not give one penny back, which is frankly horrible business. Be prepared to be taken for a ride if you work with them and pay way more than expected and gamble at even getting your problem solved, then lied to afterwards. Hire at your own peril.
