South Indian Chicken Curry

Food 4/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Me and my partner came here for the first time and I can say we couldn't of had a better experience. Immediately walking into Earls Kitchen + Bar we were greeted with the smiley faces from there host's and were given a table right away, our server Sydnie/Sydney is absolutely amazing! She was very good at helping with menu suggestions and treated us like old friends. Places that greet you with open arms really change your business for the better and I can say for sure that this place is one of them. As for the food, we ordered Calamari, Chicken Fettucine Alfredo and the South Indian Chicken Curry. The calamari was phenomenal, defiantly the best calamari I've ever tasted. The Fettucine Alfredo was okay didn't have a lot if sauce causing the noodles to be dry, the chicken was over seasoned and the bread was a bit burnt on one side. As for the South Indian Chicken Curry, it was the best I've had since coming to Canada the chicken was very tender and well seasoned, the curry was very mild and very delicious! We will definitely be here again.

Calamari was okay

The calamari appetizer had a good portion of food. It seemed like quite a lot but when I finished it, I was still hungry. It also wasn't as tasty as Opa's Greek food's calamari. It must have been the lack of seasoning or maybe the calamari was smaller than at Opa's but I just wouldn't recommend that appetizer. The waitress was super nice though! Very attentive and polite. The restaurant is big and vast. Modern lights and moody lighting inside. It was an interesting place to eat at and the seats were super comfortable.

I had a late lunch today at Earls near the Polo Park Mall (I was heading home to Toronto and it was on the way to the airport). I've been to a couple Earls before and like them. I ordered Jeera Chicken Curry and it was good ...not too spicy but spicy enough. The curry and chicken came in a separate bowl Jessica was my server. She was friendly and took good care of me.

Had a Chicken Avocado Salad, one of their current features. Chicken was a little overcooked and the vinaigrette was decent, but the big kicker was that the "Baby Iceberg Lettuce" wound up being mostly stalks and wasn't very pleasant to eat. In fact on several forkfuls it looked like the particular leaves I had snagged were all separated from the head at once, lying perfectly together in a big clump of watery lettuce. Their salad combo had potential and was of appropriate size, but lettuce needs definite improvement. Had Yam Fries with a garlic aioli sauce to start, very tasty but a little small for a "sharing plate" as the menu called it. Service was good; hostess took our coats and server offered wine quite well. Fairly quiet evening for them but I can picture the building getting quite loud given the proximity of most tables on busy nights.

Ok, so went to the location on Main and the food to me seemed different:( The potato salad was dry and the ribs came out cold.

What a lovely, but very small, hidden gem. The Roost is…read morelocated upstairs from what also looked like a tasty milkshake shop and is quite small. When I called to make a reservation (only taken between 5-7pm) the staff member told me they only have 18 seats so it is very "cozy". There were 3 of us and we ended up sitting at the bar, which was actually just fine for us. Since the Roost is renounced for their house cocktails, it was actually quite entertaining to be able to watch the bartender make the cocktails, see the different glasses and cups they had for each drink and just get to know the staff more. With that said, the Roost's cocktail menu is so fun and there were so many choices, including mocktails, that it was actually difficult to choose drinks. I think in total we tried maybe 5 of them and they were all phenomenal. For food, we ordered a couple of different things. We had the vegan cheese platter - oh yeah, this place has a large vegan/vegetarian friendly menu - some baos or steamed buns and the scallop risotto. I want to say my favorite were actually the steamed buns - nice and fluffy and warm and full of flavor. This place was such a nice little treat during our time in Winnipeg and I would imagine that, if I lived in Winnipeg, it would quickly become one of my go to places for a date or a night out with a friend. Worth the visit if you're in Winnipeg.

The service was slow and sporadic. The vegan burger was tasty but so mushy most of the "burger" ended up on the plate and not part of the sandwich. It's a nice place to go for a drink (good ambiance) but I wouldn't even recommend the tapas from the VERY limited menu. So just to qualify, it's a good place. It's just me that won't be going again.

It's located in a slightly quiet area but despite walking there around 9 and leaving after 11 on a Saturday night there were no issues. No coffee, wines or beers here but there are non-alcoholic drinks and of course loads of cocktails. Most cocktails are $13 and they even offer old school punch bowls (recall the ones our parents owned) except these are smaller ones and need a min of two people for $15 each. Food was just a few cheeseboards - one is a vegan cheese board too. Loved all of the cocktails we tried: - Golden bird - patent 5 vodka, apple jack, golden apple syrup, green strawberry bitters, Malic acid - espresso martini - patent 5 vodka, dogwood neon espresso and Kahlua - Long Island gimlet - patent 5 gin, rum, tequila, house cola cordial, citric acid. This was my favourite - maybe because it has a lot of liquor. Service was laid back yet helpful. Vibe was relaxed and welcoming. Just people having a cocktail and a good time. No pretension. Loved it. I will be back!

While clearly a nice restaurant, the atmosphere isn't pretentious at all. It's chill, people are friendly, and I was really impressed by how calm everyone seemed in the open kitchen. The menu I guess could be described as "New Canadian", and I'd say it's got something for everyone, but is focused enough not to overwhelm. We got three of the small plates to start with and share: the focaccia, the chorizo spiced tacos, and the roasted squash gnocchi. The tacos are actually made with soy curls (a soy-based protein that actually has the texture of chicken) flavored with chorizo spices. Our meat-eating (and meat-loving) parents who usually dislike tofu and any meat alternatives actually really liked the tacos. I tried some of the mole and it was so good that I ended up pouring some of the extra on the focaccia! The focaccia itself was pillowy and perfect with a unique and delicious strawberry infused whipped butter. The gnocchi was by far my favorite dish of the night. The contrast of the pillowy gnocchi to the pumpkin seed brittle, and the sweet squash to the savory mushroom xo, all make for delight and interest in every bite. For mains, I got the coconut korma with soy curls, and my dinner buddies got the house salads (one with chicken and one with soy curls) and the linguine with spinach creme sauce. Props to the kitchen for very satisfying portions on the large plates. We were all stuffed by the end and I actually needed a bit of help at the end to finish mine. The korma was delicious, with fragrant fluffy rice and flavorful soy protein. Everyone really enjoyed their dishes, and the only downside was that we were too stuffed to try and of the desserts, which sounded amazing. I'm not that particular about service in general, but when it's good, I can definitely notice, and the service here is really, really good. Our server, Karla (or Carla?) was so attentive, so helpful, kept us well hydrated, and paced everything out perfectly. Overall, our experience here was incredibly positive and would recommend!
