7/2/26 Trial class for my girls (7 & 9 yo)…read more Grandma has been wanting the girls to take taekwondo for some time now. She took them To observe a few other places but no dice. I found TEMA on Yelp and decided to sign up for a trial class. When I noticed you can only Sign up one child per day, I called to ask if I can have both girls attend. Master Yoo got back to me quickly (even though I didn't see the response). We worked out the best date for them to go. My girls were totally dreading the trial class since they weren't impressed with what they saw prior. Location is in a nice shopping plaza. Parking wasn't too bad considering the time 6pm on a Thursday. I can however, see parking being a challenge moving forward. We were able to observe the class before and was welcomed in the next class right after. I noticed the instructors are very loud and was concerned my kids would be turned off. It Was nice he was strict but had playful moments. To my surprise, they were open to go through trial class. I really enjoyed the respect they teach when addressing Master Yoo and his partners. we also have two black belts in training (children) who helped with the class. My girls really got into it and told me... "mom, we want to do this!" My family and I stepped into Master Yoo's office for the price breakdown and review their academy goals for each kid. I love teaching them respect, discipline, 3 focuses (eye focus, mind focus and body focus) when doing all things. My girls were so excited to get their free Uniform and can't wait to officially start the week of 7/13/26. Thank you again Master Yoo for such a great trial experience!

Choosing a martial art for my kids was tough. Everyone is into BJJ or Muay Thai or something that…read moreseems like they have a chip on their shoulder or something to prove. Enter Taekwondo Spirit. Master Lee = Amazing. We chose this studio over two years ago and I have watched my kids grow in body, mind and Spirit (no pun intended). The staff here from Master Cyril in the older days through the current staff have been nothing short of great. They are delicate where they need to be and tough when needed. They very much specialize in children. The studio has built and maintains a community feeling. They have definitely served the youth of La Mirada and the surrounding community by teaching discipline, confidence and self defense. They even participate in local tournaments if you are ready and they echo that sentiment. The sport of Taekwondo is definitely a great introduction to martial arts that develops flexibility, strength and balance. I'm very appreciative to Taekwondo Spirit for what my children have learned through them. Humility seems to flow through this place with nothing but respect given by and to everyone. The only "negative" I could even consider about the location is that the parking lot could get tight in the afternoon hours with the neighboring gym.

I had tried another studio in Whittier who are through the Regional Center (Victory Tae Kwon Do) but unfortunately even free lessons through were not worth it in comparison to here. My son was trained by master Cyril for about 1 year before their lack of availability and our school schedule conflicted to the point of no longer being able to fit us in. The studio is small so understandable, just sad. I realize teaching autistic kids is not their specialty, but I had gone to one other local studio in La Habra that basically turned us away because they didn't want to do the hands on work it takes to teach a child that lacks imitation skills, while another in Fullerton was extremely overpriced and for only 15 minute sessions in addition to being too far. I hope to come back to this studio soon if they have the availability.

Beyond learning taekwondo techniques, he has developed confidence, discipline, respect, and good posture. I've heard that many taekwondo schools focus heavily on games and entertainment to keep young children engaged. This school is different. They don't simply keep the kids busy with activities--they teach real taekwondo. The instructors emphasize discipline, proper etiquette, respect, focus, and correct technique. For our family, those values are far more important than simply having fun. The Master and the Manager genuinely care about each child and give them personal attention. You can tell they want every student to learn taekwondo the right way, not just earn the next belt. I especially recommend this school for children around 5 or 6 years old. The owners, professors, and coaches have cultivated a superb gym culture. This gym is safe, friendly, and supportive. The facility is modern and clean, and they've invested in a foam block subfloor beneath the mats for softer landings. As far as I know, this is the only gym in the area that offers women-only classes four times per week and a bi-monthly community open mat for gentlemen 40 years and older. My kids train here after school 4-5 days a week, and they love it. The kids' professors and coaches are experienced and amazing teachers. I'm especially thankful for the young coaches who were so patient and kind to my boys when they were hesitant and shy after first starting. And my pocketbook is especially thankful for the discounted rates for additional family members. If you're looking for a place where the whole family can train, grow, and feel welcome, I can't recommend Teragi highly enough.

I've been to places where it seemed salesy or lacking authenticity. Teragi Academy is a place where they genuinely practice and instill jiu jitsu and its culture of honor and regard of others. The promotion of belts is carried out quarterly and only awarded based on merit. This is also something I greatly appreciate because I know many establishments that give out promotions for no reason at all. Since day one, the professors and coaches of this gym have been patient and meticulous in teaching techniques to the kids. Teragi has been instrumental in providing confidence as well as self awareness for my son. I've seen many of the other kids mature in their own ways for the past 2 years. It's always a wonder to see everyone come up together. For myself and my family, we seen so much growth and discipline in our boy. There's a comfort in knowing that our child is not left helpless and able to stand up himself as well as for others. Master Jazmine immediately made us feel comfortable. She has such a special gift for working with young children, and every instructor we met was incredibly patient, encouraging, and caring.
