This place has been so great with our 6 year old son with autism. He absolutely loves coming to each class and has shown so much improvement since he started. This is my first yelp review ever. I had to write this because I am extremely pleased with Taekwondo USA and had to share with others. I am a school teacher and a dad. I looked around the Whittier and La Mirada area for a Taekwondo center for my 5 year old son. After much research and trying several places I enrolled my son in Master Kim's class. Master Kim and Master Jimmy are extremely good with kids of all ages. They are naturals. They are able to provide a class where students are learning, exercising, having fun, and increasing in confidence. Very early, I heard my 5 year old let out a roar of "baho" that I did not know he had in him. In the 6 months he has attended this class his balance, agility, strength, and confidence have all increased. I also want to add that Master Kim has personally delivered instruction in every single class. This is not one of those places where the Master hands off the class to his protege. My family is always on a budget. But this is high quality instruction worth every penny. Bring your kids here. Master Kim knows what he's doing. I highly recommend. read more

I called around a few places to get an idea of pricing. This was one of the first places i called and it was around $70/ month (which i thought was alot, but after calling around it seems pretty normal) i spoke to the owner and let him know i was just shopping around. He called me back later that evening to offer a free 2 week trial for my 6 year old and 3 yr old. I decided to take him up on it. After the first class i could see my just turned 3 year old did not have the attention span needed. The owner gave my oldest a uniform to wear next class. My 6 year was doing well, but every time i asked him how he liked it, he was adamant that he did not like it. We continued for the full two weeks (2x a week) and i thought my son was doing really well, and seemed happy doing it. When the end came my son really just wanted to try a different sport. I might have pushed him a little more to continue, but for $70 a month, its just too much to spend on something he wasn't passionate about. I do think he would have benefited a lot from the class in gaining confidence, but i just feel if we try again next year, we might have a better outcome. I felt a little bad, because the teachers had been so nice. There were two younger guys working with a group of about 5. Everyone at this place demanded respect without being intimidating. The teachers would make jokes and have fun with the kids while they were learning. They would call the kids by their name, and tend to them when they needed extra help. The owner was SO very kind and not pushy or overly aggressive for our business. When the end came, i explained that we were going to try out some other sports to find the one best suited to my son, and he completely understood and was just so nice about it. I felt a little guilty keeping the uniform and offered to return it, but he assured me it was fine and we could keep it. staff is great...the overall atmosphere is great...i would definitely recommend this place to anyone interested. read more

My daughter is 8 years old and wanted to try martial arts. I know Tae Kwan Do USA has been here for a long time. After shopping around I found out why. They teach a discipline oriented, to the point class that keeps the students focused, and having fun. As a parent with a background in martial arts I appreciate the fact that they don't just give away belts. They train and retest students until they are ready to advance. At the same time the students know that the belt is earned and not just paid for. The instructors keep the students motivated, and even if they don't pass a test on the first try, they learn that with hard work and focus they will succeed. We enrolled our 4 year old son in Tae Kwan Do after realizing that he did not yet have the patience for team sports. The only reason that we chose this establishment is because it is 1 mile from our home, but it turns out that it was the best decision that we could have made! Initially we spoke with Master Kim about our concern that our son may not like Tae Kwan Do and we did not want to pay for multiple months if it was not for him. Master Kim offered us a trial period with the option to continue after if he enjoyed it. During class, the Masters teach the children discipline and to be respectful of their parents and others while having fun with multiple laughs. Even though there are a handful of children in each class, they are able to give 1 on 1 assistance as needed as there are multiple Masters assisting and I always feel as if they are watching and helping everyone in the class. When a child gets too excited and out of hand, which happens often because they are kids, a Master discretely pulls them aside for a short chat and then returns them back to their classmates. This seems to do the trick every time. I am more than pleased with the respect that they have given to us, the way they have taught my son to respect others and the skills that they have learned. I would definitely recommend Tae Kwan Do USA for any child that expresses an interest in martial arts, any child that does not have the attention span for team sports or any parent who is just looking to try something new for their child. On a side note, watching the children at each class is a blast!! They are all so serious, try so hard and are so cute. The parents have a smile on their face throughout the class. read more
