My kids went to a different taekwondo gym for a year before we ended up here and I'm so glad we met Master Oh. Unlike the other place, I feel like Master Oh teaches the children to be more disciplined. Yes, he's strict, but he's also SO goofy and everyone is always laughing at his quirkiness. He disciplines his students in a way that I feel is fundamentally necessary for their future. I also love how much he focuses on respect and manners. After he finished baseball, we wanted him to remain active during the summer and after doing some research, my wife wanted to give Oh's Taekwondo Center a try. Master Oh was welcoming and initially thought our son was too young (4 1/2 at that time) but allowed him to try a class to see how he did with following directions. I was searching for a perfect tkd dojang around Brea/Yorba Linda area and found this gem for my girls. My daughters tried two different places in Brea/Yorba Linda, and it wasn't suitable for them. My daughters have been training here for over two years, and they love this tkd dojang. Master Oh always has fun activities planned for them every time. I love the diversity! He is also great at disciplining the students and making sure they are respectful to one another. My girls' tkd skills improved tremendously over the years. They can kick really high and also learned how to defend themselves through the trainings. This is my girls' favorite place to go after school. One last thing, this dojang is immaculate. This review is long overdue. My oldest child has been attending since before COVID, with a break of 1-2 years due to the pandemic. Now, both of my kids participate in Taekwondo here. Master Oh is excellent with kids; he has a great sense of humor but is also strict when necessary. He emphasizes the importance of punctuality, respect for others, and giving 100% effort during classes. Since attending, my kids have thrived both physically and in confidence. Update: March 2019 New interior aesthetics but same great Master and instructor! Tight knit Tkd community within the studio with lots of communication on what's happening at the studio. Master Oh's studio also attends several competitions each year for his students to up their Tkd skills. They also do a lot of cross training with other studios to get more practice with diff individuals in their class. My son is on his competition team and he loves it! We love this studio, the parents and all the kids who go here. Keep up the great work!!! My son transferred from another studio as we just moved to Brea and he absolutely loves it here! I've gotten to know some of the parents and I've heard nothing but the best about Master Oh. His passion and dedication exudes through his teachings. Like many of the reviews here, I too can attest that Master Oh is great with kids. Stern but inviting and always showing the kids his own love for taekwondo. I think his passion draws the kids in to wanting to do their best as well. He somehow pays attention to each kid and cares for them individually. I have also joined the adult class when my son asked me to do it with him. I fully expected that I would stop after the trial period but what I found was the same thing the kids found and desired to keep with it. Never having done martial arts in the past, I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I do. As I approach my 40s, his class has really whipped me into shape. I cannot recommend Master Oh's Taekwondo studio enough. Despite practicing Taekwondo for over ten years, I've never experienced such accelerated growth as I have in about one year under Master Oh's guidance. Master Oh teaches his students with a focus and passion in each and every class that I have not seen at any other studio. It's amazing that he can maintain the level of intensity and energy as long and consistently as he does. The culture of Oh's Taekwondo studio is disciplined and serious, yet he brings the appropriate amount of levity to make classes fun and enjoyable for the kids. I'd call it a bit old school, but given the amount of hand holding we do as parents these days it's refreshing to see. Oh's Taekwondo is a Kukkiwon and World Taekwondo certified school, so you can be certain that your child is learning proper Taekwondo striking and sparring techniques, sparring rules, and poomsaes (forms). With respect to striking, he incorporates various drills to improve technique, distance, and timing. Master Oh expects his students to perfect their techniques and holds them to a high standard. Poomsaes are a forte of the school and his students regularly compete and medal in local, regional and national tournaments. My daughter, who is now 9, started tae kwon do when she was 3. We are transfers from another studio. I didn't think that we would find another studio that we love as much as our original studio. Our master from the old studio actually made a few calls trying to help us find a good studio. After calling about 5 studios she found Oh's Tae Kwon Do center. After talking to Master Oh she liked his vision, his technique, his discipline, his background on Tae Kwon Do. She was happy and comfortable letting us go to this new studio. Here we are at Ohs Tae Kwon Do center for about year now and we love it. My daughter has grown so much and learned so much. My daughter is more of a poomsae forms girl. Her forms are on point. The time that Master Oh and Instructor Anthony puts into her and the other kids is amazing. These kids look up to them and listen when they speak, the kids are focused. They are dedicated to each and every one of the students. When my daughter spars she great. Right now she has this fear in her because she thinks she's too small to be great. Master Oh is getting her out of this shell. He pairs her up with kids who are bigger than her and who are higher rank. Slowly building her confidence that YES as small as you think you are you can kick that black belts butt. Master Oh has a tiny tigers class that I would love to take my 3 year old to but the time doesn't work for me because of work. But when she's older I will have 2 girls at Ohs Tae Kwon Do center. We've been with Master Oh for 5 months now. We were looking for a class for our son and we've visited and inquired in other centers around Brea/Fullerton. A friend recommended Ohs Taekwondo center and my son loved the trial class. My other 2 daughters eventually joined too. Our boys are in taekwondo for four years, and they recently received their 2nd degree black belt. Besides going to the regular taekwondo classes, they are also in competition team. They've learned teamwork and sportsmanship from it. One of the changes I see on our boys is the attitude of dealing with winning and losing. They deal with it so well, even better than us. Also, they conquer their stage fright. Our younger boy, the one used to freeze on stage, was doing Emcee and taekwondo demo on our school talent show last week. Mastor Oh and Anthony are SUPERB instructors who foster positive attitude, respect, discipline, agility, etc. in their students which include my 6 year old. I never did martial arts growing up but I'm so glad my wife enrolled him last year as he is advancing with ease. I am so proud of my son, and I owe it to these instructors. They also go out of their way to make every student feels special here, from birthday boards to toy gifts on belt promotion day. And they really honor the parents as well, not only in their ideology but also in providing free play nights for the kids on special holidays (I think Valentine's day, Mother's day and a few others), which helps give us parents a break. My one suggestion is that they invest in a website where we can access the schedule i.e. holidays, date of belt tests, schedule changes etc. Everything is available in paper format at the front desk and they also verbally give the kids a heads up every lesson in the weeks prior to a test or holiday to pass the info on to their parents. But it would be nice to be able to see this info online and to also have the option of paying online as well. Lastly, it can also get a little crowded with all the parents present especially on belt test days. Otherwise, this place rocks. We plan to keep our son here all the way to black belt, God-willing. My daughter Miah and Izabella has been going to Master Oh's studio since they were 4-5 years old. I signed up my oldest child using the 7-8 weeks special promo at that time. I honestly didn't have any plans to make it a long term activity for her. However, we loved it so much and feel is one of the best decision we have made as parents; we continued and enrolled our other daughter (Izabella) when she was age appropriate to start. I have sent my boy to this studio because he needed to exercise. I believe that kids need to know at least one martial art. I have checked out different martial art studios but did not find satisfying studios. I have seen instructors where they did not seemed to care about the students and just want parents money. However, this studio's instructor just loves the kids so much and I can see that from his face. I also see that he has a lot of passion in what he is doing. I know it is not safe to send my son to during this pandemic, but he always keeps his studio so clean and is constantly aware of social distancing and other protocols.
