Good food and service. We've been dining at the Eagle for a number of years now to the point that Sam and staff already know our order, right. But I don't want to taint this review with that particular fact. All in all I highly recommend The Eagle although the name threw us off at first and I forget how it was recommend us but glad it was. I don't regularly eat Chow Mein dish but here I find that I can enjoy some and not be, how do I put it, repelled by it. I'd rather have the sizzling rice soup and a bit of the fried rice and spring rolls, 1 to be exact, only because, if you can relate if you give a mouse a cookie, right?... The owner is super friendly and appreciated of the buissness during this covid 19 stay at home order. He took my order quickly and had the food ready for pick up in 20 mins. The food speaks for itself !!! It's has a fresh taste and doesn't put you into a food coma! No msg and best quality beef and meats . Plus fresh veggies!! We normally go and eat soup 1st but since we took out we didn't get soup and the wife was amazed on how good the food is. Judging from the exterior this is not a place my husband and I would probably try, but since the Yelp reviews were so good we ordered takeout and were pleasantly surprised! As others have said, the portions are huge and the vegetables are abundant and fresh. I love food, i found myself to be very picky with food & what i eat. In my point of view from the food that i order which was fried rice, Veggie Chow Main and Kung Pao Chicken. Ill start with the rice, i found it very bland, not much flavor, same with the chow main it had very little veggies and not much flavor it was also very dry. Lastly the kung pao chicken i was very disappointed in, it was missing the main ingredients which was the red chillies and the penuts. My boss mentioned this place to me over 4 years ago. I haven't stopped going and my favorite dish is still sesames chicken. I never get tired of this dish. You get good service, great fresh food, fast service, helpful suggestions and you'll never want to stop coming. They have soooo much to chose from. The food here is just like the name of the restaurant, Americanized. I would not expect Chinese food from a restaurant called Eagle Restaurant. Perhaps it's patriotic or some symbolic of Salinas. Anyhow, Eagle serves a decent Americanized Chinese food menu. By Americanized I am referring to the popular Orange Chicken, Honey Walnut Shrimp, Crab Rangoon, etc. I'm not complaining about it. I'm Chinese and love those entrees. Just know that sleepiness and stinky farts might occur after the meal. A lot of people on Yelp here are claiming that this is the best Chinese food in the Monterey County. I can see why. It's because there are limited options in the area. However, I do think they serve decent food. We ordered the sampler appetizer, wonton soup, a combo chow fun, honey walnut shrimp, a order of steam rice, 2 beers and a hot tea tonight. The total came out to around $60 with tips. We were stuffed at the end and had leftovers. The sampler is perfect for fried food lovers. Think of anything crispy and it's probably on that plate. The wonton soup came with a generous amount of vegetables which was nice. It was more than enough for two people. I think it can actually serve 3-4. The broth and wonton was pretty tasty. I don't have much complaints about the honey walnut shrimp. The only issue I have is that the walnut was not as glazed as I would like. Otherwise the amount of sauce on the dish was perfect. The staff members are nice and attentive. They stay pretty busy here. Maybe it's so busy that they forgot to clean the tables thoroughly. I noticed a good amount of stickiness on my side of the table. It's not the most pleasant feeling but not a deal breaker. read more

I don't eat eggs, so they whipped up a lettuce and green onion soup for me, and it was a nice gesture, and quite tasty! Chinese American Orange County native here. Every time I pass through the Central Coast area, I absolutely MUST stop here. My wife discovered this place long before we even met, but she hesitated to introduce me as she feared I wouldn't consider it authentic. The result? I don't know and I don't care! Their food is delicious! I love their curry noodle soup (the local favorite), stir fried string beans, and fish in black bean sauce. Food was brought out quickly, empty water glasses were promptly refilled, & our waiter asked several times if we needed anything. Prices are outrageous. I thought we were at Hakkasan (SF) or Buddakan (NY.) Seriously. We ordered: - egg flower soup: 5 stars! That broth tho. - salt & pepper shrimp: definitely not as good as several Yelpers lead me to believe. Dipping sauce was artificial & too sweet. I don't recommend. 2.75 stars. - sweet & sour combo: now this I recommend! I've never seen shrimp, chicken, & pork prepared together this way before. Crisp breading & a flavorful sauce. 4.5 stars. - Hong Kong style noodles: I really liked that the veggies weren't overcooked. Gravy was quite bland. 3.75 stars - pork fried rice: enough soy sauce, nice flavor. 3.5 stars. If this restaurant were closer to home, I'd probably get food there every 1-2 months. read more

My all time favorite Chinese place, not just in Salinas, but so far! It's so hard to find good Chinese. I've tried and tried, but nothing can ever compare. There are so many Thai places where I live (near downtown LA), but unfortunately it seems like "Americanized" Chinese food is few and far in between. Whenever I come back to Salinas, I HAVE to make a stop at the Eagle. My friends and I have a big dinner, and sometimes our parents join as well. Everyone loves this place! The owners are extremely friendly and always seem to remember who we are whether we are calling in an order or eating in the restaurant. Favorite things to order: crab angles salt & pepper tofu chow fun green beans and chicken fried rice sesame beef with broccoli eggplant tofu sweet and sour shrimp Honestly, everything is really good and food comes out extremely fast. Food is delicious and orders are made quickly to go. The only thing is is they're quite pricey and the parking is really difficult. It's really hard to find a parking at times with it being on a main street so sometimes you have to circle around a few times which makes it inconvenient. read more

This Chinese restaurant by far is one of the very best in Monterey County. However, I should say this with some hesitation as I have not eaten at too many Chinese restaurants in the county. But the food has been very good. If I may suggest is it possible to change some dishes on the menu? And try something different? How about dishes from other regions in China? It seems like every Chinese restaurant in this county pretty much serves the same dishes-Cantonese. I should note Eagle Restaurant has the Dim Sum House on the other side of town.
