Rented a Pontoon boat with friends to take out on Eagle Creek to have a birthday celebration. With it being Labor Day, we had a bit of a wait. Honestly it didn't seem horrible to me,of course that could be because we were told to arrive once the boat was secured for the day. When my husband and I arrived the computer system was down so the attendant said we were to enter free for the day since he couldn't take payments. The day just got better from here. Our friend, whose birthday it was only had a short wait, but to him it seemed long he said. Once he got to the front he was told we had a wait of approximately twenty minutes. During this time, my husband and I found front parking next to our friend's car, thanks to his wife. When we got in touch with our friends car he had us to bring our coolers and sunblock and we all met up at the restrooms where there were a few picnic tables as well as an awning to block the sun. We took the wait time to play a card game and snack. After a few hands of cards we were called back to check in and we got our life vests and saw a short video as well as signed waivers. Nikko was very helpful in getting us onto our boat and with a 'have a great time!' We were off! Peaceful waters for the day and we even saw friends which was a surprise as they were put with their sailboats. They were set up to handle a large crowd of customers on a holiday. Plenty of staff to take care of waivers, boat safety videos, life preserver dispensing, ID and credit card checks and so forth. Signs were posted with Marion County covid rules and said if you are unmasked then you must stay six feet away from people when outdoors. People seem to be obeying and each group kept their distance. You can rent single or double seat kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, paddle boats, Jon boats (a fishing boat) and pontoon boats. Even though a pontoon boat costs $175 minimum for 2 hours folks were renting them. Kayaks were the most popular rental and they had more than enough of them to not run out. We rented a Jon boat at $50 for the first hour, $70 for two hours. It comes with a Honda 10 hp outboard motor. These boats are brand new and so are the engines. Yes, you have to pull a cord like a lawnmower but being brand new they start on the first or second pull. Real easy! Our boat came with a paddle and seat cushions for all three occupants. Plus life preservers are provided free of charge for everyone renting a boat or board and being out on the water. The only thing missing was an anchor so drifting with the engine off became a little bit of a nuisance. The reservoir area from the Marina to the Bird Sanctuary has a ton of yellow buoys marking lanes for row boats. You don't have to stay out of the lanes but just be aware it is something you have to navigate around. They also rent electric bikes for $20 an hour. But they are not allowed on the trails. Check out their web site for discounts and coupons because I missed out. All of their staff was friendly and helpful. And they take into consideration many people are doing these things for the first time. I heard, "take your time" often. Safety was a priority with them. read more

We came here on a Saturday to kayak. We arrived early (before 10:00AM) after reading the reviews that said they operate on a first come first serve basis. We had no problem getting 2 single kayaks. The process was very easy and the workers were very helpful. I didn't know all of the options they offer until I arrived. I posted a picture with the options and pricing. I definitely want to come back and try more! I asked about the Pontoon rentals and again they do operate on a first come first serve basis. I believe they open at 9:00AM and the employee said they were sold out by 8:00/8:30AM before they even opened. We only last an hour in the kayaks because it was very hot and humid that day. It was a GOOD time at Eagle Creek! So I read the reviews and was hesitant because of all the reviews but I figured I would give it a try and try it out. It was a group of 7 total! 6 adults and 1 child (5 years old). All we wanted was a pontoon boat, and we got it. We were able to bring everything on the boat..... speakers, food, adult beverages, paper cups, plates, longs donuts, fruit, and whatever else you can think of!! We did the 2 hour boat and just chilled! It's first come first served. NO RESERVATIONS, so get there early!!! Customer service was great, they were very helpful and catering to their customers. You can rent kayaks (single or double), canoes, paddle boards, paddle boats, or pontoons to enjoy on the resevoir. It's beautiful and the water is very calm. Staff is helpful and friendly. They were cleaning life jackets, paddles and boats thoroughly. It was a great way to get outside for a few hours. Also, we spotted a Bald Eagle that we got very excited about. We just rented a paddle boat with our toddlers and they did great! The front clerks were funny and sweet and helped us get our kids set up to ride the boat. It was only $30 for an hour and was worth every cent! The boat was clean and they suggested whereabouts to check out and helped us as we returned. It's $5 to enter the main park but going on a nice hike in the shade after a boat ride is very refreshing! Next time we will be renting a platoon $150 for two hours. It's great if you can split it with a party no more than 8! We can't wait to come back! read more

This is great way to spend a weekend afternoon! I went kayaking for a few hours and it was so much fun! They take your drivers license as a hold while you kayak or canoe and then you pay once you get back. They normally open at 10, but when I went there was a special event ... However it wasn't posted anywhere . So after about 10 of us showed up waiting in line someone found a worker who said they didn't open till 11. So beware if you show up and they're closed. It would help if someone just wrote in a piece of paper Or anything. The worker was annoyed and actually complained about us for waiting, in front of us while we were checking out. So just beware of the possibility of having to wait. So customer service stunk, but they didn't ruin the experience! So bring your friends, your family, whoever and enjoy a fun afternoon! read more

Eagle Creek Outfitters is one of the few places you can rent a kayak in Indianapolis. We went on Labor Day this year, and despite the crowds of people, we were pleasantly surprised that there were plenty of single and double kayaks available (the early sell outs are paddle boards). Note that you're going to want to bring you ID with you, as the staff holds onto it and your waiver while you're out on the water. Neither of us had brought ours this time around, and the staff was flexible with us, holding on to our credit card as a replacement. You're allowed a 10-minute grace period to get onto the water, and then you have the option to kayak for either 1 or 2 hours. My husband and I always opt for two, and we usually find ourselves paddling to the I-65 bridge and back in about 90 minutes. You have plenty of time to explore the reservoir and take in the views of the birds and the trees. It's such a fun way to enjoy a tranquil afternoon on the water. At the end of your time, the staff helps you back onto shore so you can pay. Two hours with two single kayaks cost us $50. (If that seems steep, renting a double kayak is only $30.) Until we buy our own kayaks, Eagle Creek Outfitters will always be our reliable go-to option. read more

A great place to rental kayaks, standup paddle boards, paddle boats, etc to cruise around Eagle Creek. They even offer sunset and moonlight paddle boarding tours. The place charges by the hour, but will not charge you until your return in case you change you mind on how long you want to be out on the water. The rental place is located on the north end of the reservoir inside the park, so you will have to pay the park's entrance fee ($5 for residents of Marion Co, $6 for nonresidents). The employees do offer to hold any valuables such as keys and wallets up with them while you are out on the reservoir. The employees were friendly and helpful, I would definitely recommend them and plan on going back soon read more

Get out and explore! My sister is a "chill" girl and really wanted to have an "alternative" Bachelorette Party experience -- and we decided to make a day on the lake. With eight of us in our happy "bride tribe" we rented a kayak, paddle board, and paddle boat. It was fun to rotate and try many different water vehicles and play on the water. Do note that they do not take reservations, it is first come, first served, and it can get pretty busy on the weekends, especially on Sunday. Also, it is a booze free park, so leave your cooler at home for this lake trip. They have a pay as you go policy, which was great for us, as we didn't know if we wanted to be out for one or two hours -- we ended up being out for two, but it was great to not have to come back an hour in and let staff know we wanted to keep paddling. If you have never been on the water in a kayak or canoe or water vehicle the staff are friendly, knowledgeable and ready to help you feel safe and comfortable in the water. After calling for information on Friday, we arrived on Saturday morning, June 18th, at the stated opening time of 10:00 am. There were 3 groups of people waiting at the check-in location who told us that the Outfitter was not opening until 11:00 due to an event at the beach. There were no posted signs or instructions related to the delay. Other customers were also confused as they had also been told that the office would be open at 10:00 am. Two male staffers were clearing the launch area of debris. We rented a double kayak and enjoyed our morning on Eagle Creek Reservoir very much. Upon leaving we inquired about the Sunset kayak tour and pricing. The female staff member did not provide the information requested. We understand that delays can happen, however it is the staff member's responsibility to communicate clearly and effectively with their customers. Great place to go kayaking or canoeing during the week, can get busy during the weekends. Far prefer it to the kayaking you can find within the rest of Indiana.
