On a bike tour, I found Universal and brought my squealing brakes to Billy. Not only were the brake pads wrong, the brakes should have been replaced because the wheels are wider. As Billy investigated further, he found the mechanic had also snapped the front brake cable fixing bolt. Had this not been found I could have experienced a catastrophic brake failure. Universal had the brakes I needed in stock, Billy sent me to lunch and replaced the brakes and pads within the hour so that I could continue the tour safely and with the correct brake system. Most times, this is sufficient. I didn't receive a response so I called their store and was told that "unfortunately, it is already out the door." I was appalled as I was trying to save them (and me, the customer) the headaches of refusing an order after shipping as well as the shipping cost but instead, they shipped it anyhow, caring less. Instead, he (the gentleman who answered the phone) tried to blame it on me that I didn't call earlier and gave me some excuse that maybe the email got lost in SPAM...the email I used to respond to their email. Yes, it was my mistake, but I tried to right it immediately. The next time my son needs a part, we will not shop here at Universal Cycles Company... and you should not use them as well as they don't understand customer service and feel comfortable blaming the customer for their shortcomings. Now instead of solving the problem quickly, we both are going to go through weeks of angst.

Lakeside doesn't keep all of Giant's line in stock, but they can order them in for you. Based on reading / watching many glowing reviews for the Defy endurance bikes, I had Mark order up a 2025 Advanced 0 model for me -- comes with carbon frame, components, and wheels, as well as Shimano 105 Di2 electronic shifting drivetrain (along with 11-36t cassette for hill climbing). Mark was amazing throughout my purchase experience. He installed my pedals for me, adjusted the seat height and tire pressure, and showed me how to use the electronic shifting. After a quick test ride around the area, there seemed to be some front derailleur noise, so they made some quick adjustments to keep the chain from rubbing. I was able to take the Defy for a 20 mile ride last night, and I'm really enjoying the smooth ride of the carbon frame (coming from an aluminum frame gravel bike with road tires). I plan to bring it to Lakeside every off-season for a tune-up, and also hope to have an actual bike fit done, too. In this age of ordering everything online, I highly recommend purchasing a bike from an actual brick & mortar store with some customer service. I'm very happy with my Lakeside experience!

Ladeside Bicycles has been the disappointment of a lifetime. I was trying to build my dream bike,…read moreand found a Colnago Master frame hanging from the ceiling at Lakeside. I spent a few months buying $7500 in parts. I had the frame opened for assembly at the elite LBS in Dallas. The mechanic, an absolute pro who builds his own frames, immediately informed me the seatpost wouldn't insert because the seat tube lug was ovalized. It only touches in 2 small places, and cuts into the seat post. It never got to the minimum insert line. It is a crap quality Colnago frame, probably made outside of the Colnago Shop. It has a pristine paint job, Star-shaped tubing, but it is a bust. I have been advised it is absolutely not safe to ride. I advised Gordon immediately after being advised by the shop. He apologized and said I would absolutely be given a replacement frame or a refund. One of the techs, Griffin, sent me a text saying "Definitely seems like a manufacturing defect." I was guaranteed a fix. This was on June 30th, 121 days ago. I haven't heard from Gordon in about 90 days. After months of no answers, I was forced to buy a new frame and eat the $3400 loss. I may build up the Master frame with some old parts bin parts and give it the kid who mows my lawn. I'll hammer a metal seat post in, but I'm afraid it will crack the lug. Maybe a little welding will do the trick. Can you just imagine, welding on a $3400 frame? I was lucky to find a beautiful Tommasini Tecno frame at ERA Pro Cycles and finished my build. See photo below. I need the tall stem because of my back. Ride on . . . right past Lakeside to another shop.
