My irst encounter with E&R was because I needed an oil change. Everywhere I went was charging upwards of $60 for my little '05 corolla, but the owner only charged me about $40. Fast-forward several months later my starter goes out and I say to myself, "I'll just take it here because I think I'll get an honest deal." The guy who fixes it guarantees me 1 year warranty and if it fails to bring it back. About 5 months later I go back because I need another oil change and he charged me $60 because "...used synthetic oil and that lasts longer. Instead of bringing it back in 3,000 miles you'll have to bring it back in 6." Okaaaayyyyy. I'm not well versed in how oil changes go, but this seems plausible. I pick up my car (right at closing) and soon as I get home I notice my sticker says my next oil change is in 3,000 miles....I let it go and vow to never use them, but I go back because 6 and 1/2 months later after putting in the starter, I notice that the car is taking awhile to start up in addition to some knocking I heard in the car. He writes the slow starting off as it being because I need to warm the car up in the morning. I say okay that's actually pretty plausible and the starter was secondary to my actual concern of the car making a funky sound. I even offered to pay for the diagnostic because I was absolutely sure something was wrong, but my car had a case of performance anxiety and would not make the sound when I started it up. After getting the feeling he was just not trying to hear what I had to say he tells me to literally come back when it gets worse, to which I ask isn't the point of preventive maintenance to avoid the issue getting worse? He gets upset and continues to brush me off and refuse to put it on the lift to check under the car. I then ask if he knows any other mechanics around who would actually look and he got even more upset. I ended up taking to D&L auto on Dorchester Ave., which I HIGHLY recommend, and they find that 3 of my engine mounts have cracked and my engine was literally jumping out of the car. I write him and the business off and vow to never go back.
FAST fast-forward to today, my starter goes out and I have to pay to get it towed back to his shop. I try to explain that I told him the starter was bad a month ago and he just continues to write me off...again. Very conflated attitude, seemed pretty pissed that me, a woman, would actually know about cars. He verifies that it is within warranty and tells me I'll have to pay another $125 for labor! Okay...first, the dude guaranteed the warranty, secondly, I didn't pay $125 last time. He says with a smirk prices have gone up. Then he says that the warranty won't rollover and when asked to explain what he meant he described it as rolling over. I question him about it and he keeps changing it, I'm assuming to confuse me(?) THEN I ask well how does he guarantee his work and he says they don't.
I could give every little detail as to why this place is pretty terrible SOLELY because of the owner (the younger guy is pretty cool) but I say all this to say, it's not about the money, it's the owners pompous attitude and very clear underhanded money scheme that makes me say this is a terrible place. The owner will try to scam you for ever little penny. MAybe he doesn't understand that the way to maintain a clientele is through honesty. Well, my car will be finished tomorrow and I SWEAR this is my last time EVER going to this place. read more
