Came here last night after the bakery my boyfriend wanted to go to in Yonkers to get a last minute bday cake was closed. So thanks to Yelp I found this jewel of a bakery. It was around 7:45 pm so our chances of finding a bakery that was open were slim. I saw on Yelp they were open till 9 so I called to make sure. I spoke to a very pleasant woman on the phone & she told me they were open. So, with my bf arguing with me that it was too far, I google mapped it & it was only 8 minutes away. Luckily I was driving so he had no choice. When we arrived, we entered a confectionary paradise. Pictures of Cake Boss level fondant decorated cakes adorned the walls. The cakes were arranged in a perfect display of enticing delights. Cupcakes, brownies & cookies were displayed in their own tempting showcase. And, to our surprise, they had a freezer section with a variety of ice cream cakes. We ended up getting 2 bday cakes, unbeknownst to me my bf had to get another cake for somebody else. We chose a vanilla cake w chocolate filling and a Snicker flavored ice cream cake. The staff were super nice & gracious with helping us with the icing & writing on cakes. We saw a cake we wanted with pink flowers on it but told her it was for a guy, she offered to change them to blue no problem. THE CAKE WAS REALLY GOOD! I took a bite of the vanilla chocolate filling cake & omg, it was perfectly moist, the filling light, chocolatey, pudding like consistency. What got me was the icing. It was light & fluffy almost like whipped cream made from scratch, & super fresh, as if we custom ordered. Moral of the story, considering we came last minute, no custom pre-order, shop about to close... we ended up with some amazing cakes that tasted incredibly fresh baked. & the staff were super nice too. This bakery makes unbelievable cakes. The creativity and attention to detail for specialty cakes is outstanding. I have ordered cakes for every type of event including Superhero, Minecraft, Maquerade, Sushi parties and more. Simply can't be beat! The freshness and flavor of E & L cakes are perfection. This place is great if you want to order baked goods in advance as they will make it fresh for you. However, their pre-made cookies and desserts in the display case are not fresh. I keep wanting to like them because I would love to support local business, but every time I've purchased a Linzer tart or chocolate chip cookies, they are stale and taste as if they sat in a refrigerator for days absorbing all of the refrigerators other flavors. I ordered fresh-made cupcakes from them several times and they were delicious and just what I ordered. I wish they made everything fresh. read more

I like to come here for the cheese danish and pound cakes. Cash only! My only small gripe is that the items aren't well marked for prices so you have to ask the price of everything. Also, the items in the display case are all refrigerated, even the cookies and rugelach (sp?) so they will be hard and brittle at times. The counter girls are nice and helpful. read more

Pretty bad! I went in for a slice of plain cheesecake. I immediately noticed that some of the slices were longer than others. It looked like there were slices of cheesecake from different pies assembled to look as if it were one big cheesecake. I decided (against my better judgement) to give it a try anyway. I asked one of the two female young lady staff members whether or not it was fresh, her response was, "I really don't know". I should've stopped there but I guess I was feeling adventurous. She turned the entire cheesecake in a whirling motion to see where the freshest piece was. (I know right now you're thinking, WHY DIDNT YOU WALK OUT????, the answer is I needed sugar baaaaad! And I'm crazy!) Anyhow, she says, "this piece looks good", I said, "ok great, I'll take it". I also asked for a cup of coffee, that was in those hot thermos type dispensers, she made the coffee as asked, I paid and left. Now fast forward to the moment I/we've been waiting for...the top of the cheesecake was hard like a slice of cheese that had been sitting on the counter all day. The one and only bite I had, tasted like creamy sugar cake instead of cheesecake, where's the cream cheese flavor? It was non-existent! I couldn't continue eating, I had to dispose of it. The coffee was barely hot, I wonder why didn't she feel that when poured the coffee, she actually held the cup, didn't she realize the cup wasn't even warm? Overall, really dissatisfied. I really wanted to like this place after reading the yelp reviews and seeing the pics of the beautiful cakes they make. Was it just a fluke? I don't think I'll dare to try again. read more

Their desserts are pretty good. Their specialty ordered cakes are awesome as well. Why the 1 star? The girls that work their are SOOOOOOOO RUDE! I came in to order some pastries and the girl wouldn't even acknowledge my presence..she was too wrapped up in my fiance! Even he felt awkward! This isn't the first time I've had to deal with attitudes from the girls behind the counter. I don't know if she's new or not, but, she looks indian...if she asks if she can help you...just say NO THANKS!!!! The Spanish girl with long hair in there always has the world of problems and takes it out on customers. (Sorry for using their race as a description, I don't know their names.) The only reason I go here is because it's conveniently located by my job. But that's it. The sweets are quickly spoiled by the sour employees. I tried them twice before writing this review and twice they have let me down the 2nd time was the worst though. I ordered cupcakes for my daughters school. Told them no sprinkles. 1st off they told me 10am was pick up time. Now because the last time I went in July the cake was late I decided to give them a 15 minute window so I arrived at 10:15am, the cupcakes as I was told by the lady who answered "are just being done so 10 minutes" 10:30 still no cupcakes, then I get while I'm waiting in my car asking if I wanted sprinkles which I didn't the guy said "I messed up your order and added sprinkles but it's not alot and to do it over would take longer". I was searching for a bakery that does luxury cakes and when I came across this shop I was eager to check it out. Upon arrival their wasn't anyone present that day that looked like they wanted to work or seemed to understand the complexity of all that was going on. I spoke with the baker who was up to his neck with work, however he took time aside to discuss the cake I wanted and a approximate cost. He threw a bunch of numbers out there not really strategizing how I should go about it in the most cost efficient way but more so trying to end the conversation and get on with his day. I don't recommend this bake shop if you are passionate about getting your vision delivered. Besides the worst thing you can do is put out money to people who aren't really interested in your business. I do however recommend Conti's Pastry Shoppe on Morris Park Ave! They executed my cake with the highest level of professionalism and paid close attention to detail. If it wasn't for E&L giving such horrible service and the slice of dry and gritty red velvet cake that I purchased, I wouldn't have continued my search. read more

Can't complain about this establishment. I get great service and food. I love to eat the croissants and rolls for breakfast in the morning. I've also had all the different types of danish they have lol. And you know what else makes for a a yummy treat? Their almond cookies!!! and I've been guilty of grabbing a slice of cake on occasion! They just have them sitting on the counter.. waiting for you and me to pick 'em up. One thing I like, and I speak for the many times I've stopped by, let that be on a weekday or weekend, there's variety. Not just the same slices of cakes. Overall, I'm content. Thank you. read more

I am so impressed and grateful for my experience with E & L Bakery. I organized my husbands surprise 30th birthday party and forgot to order a cake until the day before. My nearest walkable bakery wouldn't fulfill a last minute birthday cake order so I turned to Yelp. This bakery allowed for a birthday cake with writing at a reasonable price, was DELICIOUS and everyone commented how tasty it was, and I was able to schedule a delivery to my house for the next day. The gentleman who delivered was very nice and arrived at 10:58 for an 11:00 scheduled time! So impressed! I will definitely order again and recommend to friends. read more

I haven't been to the store but a friend of mine bought a strawberry cheesecake from this bakery for my cousins birthday and it was terrific. It was light but tasted like something a story book. What I hate most is when a Manger is called and he/she shows very little interest in customer satisfaction. First off, the worker quoted the large cannolis as a dollar $2.25, then after filling them and placing them in the box, she decided that she would quote me a higher price. She refused to honor the initial price mentioned to me until I requested to speak to the manager. Eventually she offered me the initial price. What was lacking was the way the cannolis were filled. Here in the Bronx especially in Little Italy, we're used to cannolis being over filled with cream, as is in most Italian bakeries. I asked to speak to the manager to show him the cannolis, and he told me that that's how much they fill them up here. I found the shell to be overcooked, burnt. I found the cream to be overly sweet and not enough ricotta cheese; they're putting more powdered sugar than anything else. And, they are skimpy on the filling. Stay away if you want quality delicious cannolis. read more

My daughter was very happy with the design of her cake, exactly as she requested. Her friends complimented the cake and cupcakes. The price of very thing was very reasonable.
