They weathered a pandemic, moved into a new beautiful facility and I've always felt my child was in a safe environment! Despite the number of kids enrolled, they make it a point to know your child by name, have a diverse number of classes to chose from and provide feedback on our child's progress and recommended classes for the following year. ODA also provides opportunities for the classes to perform in care homes, city events; bringing joy with every tap, flip and sashay! They are truly a gem in our community. They let our children be children that can grow into their craft ; not falling into the hype that other studios fall into no promotion harmful stereotypes nor unrealistic expectations here. ODA keeps it real; provides a positive outlet for our children, is very responsive and I would recommend to dance kids of all skill levels!

My children…read moreparticipated in several productions with this group and the most recent experience we had will stop me from ever trusting this organization with my children again. In my opinion, I do not believe that child safety is a priority for the leadership of this organization, and when my child and I tried to communicate safety concerns to members of leadership, we were ultimately made to feel unwelcome by the organization. This left my kids devastated as they had come to love and trust these people. To anyone with children participating in their programs, I would strongly recommend being present with your child at all times, especially backstage during performances and dress rehearsals. Hopefully, for the sake of the other children in our community, what happened with my family served as a wake up call to them and changes will be made in the future to prioritize child safety. I personally don't feel comfortable or trust the organization enough to give them more chances with my own children. Since I promoted this organization to other families for years, I feel compelled to share this information despite the organization bringing up legal counsel, defamation, and having a lawyer email me to set up a meeting with me and my child. The second-to-last thing I want is to get sued for trying to protect kids, but the last thing I want is for something to happen to any kid because I didn't say something. *UPDATE: Since the organization representative decided to respond dismissively and misrepresent the situation, I will clarify the situation from my child's and my perspective. First, my daughter was not the only preteen girl who was uncomfortable being forced to change in a high traffic area around teen and adult males while only wearing a nude-illusion undergarment. My child was simply the only one brave enough to stand up for herself and the other girls. Second, the "accomodation" of bringing in 2 changing pods when there were more than 2 children needing to change at the same time was not a good enough "solution," especially because nobody addressed the bigger problem of the assistant director-now a board member- dismissing my daughter's concerns all week, forcing her and the other girls to change where they weren't comfortable, and telling these girls that anyone under 18 could watch them change. Other parents thanked me and my daughter for bringing up this concern and getting the changing pods for the other girls, so I am happy that our sacrifice helped other children. My child did not insist on changing in the adult changing room, she was initially told by staff that it was an option if she was uncomfortable changing in the open green room. Then that option was rescinded when staff deemed the adult dressing room to be "too toxic." Then my daughter was given the option of changing in a bathroom stall, as her only request was not having to change around boys and men. She accepted this option, but then that was also rescinded. My daughter and I both tried to walk away from the situation on good terms, but a board member then proceeded to start sending me texts accusing my child of only having a problem because one of the boys in the production had a disability- something my daughter didn't even know. She's just a pre-teen girl with very healthy and normal boundaries regarding changing in public. I responded with how hurtful of an accusation that was and tried to explain again that the issue was that the children did not feel comfortable, told the assistant director they weren't comfortable, and then that adult made my daughter feel punished for speaking up. I tried reaching out to that adult directly first, and she ignored me. Then I sent a message in the cast chat about it, and the director -now a board member- deleted my message. It took bringing it to the board's attention for anybody to care and all they did was bring in 2 changing pods when there were more than 2 children needing to change. A staff member told me they suggested putting up a room divider or sheet to provide some privacy for the girls, but were also dismissed. The board member eventually backtracked their disparaging texts, and I hoped the negativity would end there. But the next day, I received a long, disparaging email from the board member attacking my daughter even more and saying that they had gathered testimony from other cast and staff and parents agreeing that my daughter was the one with a problem. And that's when I realized I had to say something to try and protect other families from going through this. I feel like my daughter's reputation has been irrevocably damaged. It's never okay to dismiss a child when they say they aren't comfortable, or retaliate against them for it. I hope this situation inspires positive change. Why not give the children the safety and privacy of the dressing rooms? I believe if child safety had been their priority, none of this would have happened.

The setting is very structured and the opportunity to participate in the performances are great. Due to recurring health stuff we had to discontinue but Ms. Cassy was so understanding and kind to us. Not only are all the actors students, but the artistic staff are also comprised of students and recent alumni. I have seen their productions of the play 'Spring Awakening' as well as the rock opera musical 'Rent'. I was impressed by the caliber of acting talent in 'Spring Awakening' -- their performance evoked a lot of emotion in a very challenging play. Before seeing 'Rent' I was dubious that a student group would be able to pull off an intense rock musical, but they did a great job. The theater itself is very unique -- Wyatt Pavillion used to be a barn -- so the director has to be particularly creative with the space. The front half of the stage is surrounded by the audience, and there is a tall platform that actors can access from backstage or by employing a ladder. The blocking (staging, in actor speak) was well-done, especially in 'Rent', which demands several different spaces for all the stories going on in the show at once. The student group takes on the challenges of each show and owns them. Mad props! They will all be fantastic when they move beyond college theater into the world of professional theater. TIP: Good theater always makes for an awesome date night.

I have no gymnastics experience whatsoever. I wore jogger style pants (the ones that get tight at the ankles), a tight tank top, and a polyester shirt. My outfit worked well for what we were doing because it was breathable but also tight enough to where it wasn't flying in my face when I went up side down. You can also wear shorts and any regular t shirt. Just wear something comfortable Barefeet on the floor and also a mask required at this point. Months back I bought an UnderArmour face mask that is perfect for working out in, and it was perfect for this. Also, being a water bottle! Parking is fine (at least at night), there is a parking lot in front of the gym with plenty of spaces. And if it were to fill up there is a neighborhood(on Albany Ave at Donovan Ct) that you could park in and just walk through a little walkway that leads directly to their front door. I walked in and met coach Shawn and one of the other participants. My classmate showed me where to put my belongings (there's benches that are visible from the floor of the gym). As a class we did some conditioning to warm up - that night it was push ups, planks, toe raises, some jumping. It was very doable; my classmates told me that in past classes, conditioning is more challenging (something to expect). Then we did basic stretches. After that, the coach tells the class where we are for the day (floor, bars, beam). This night we were on bars. The coach demonstrated the different stations and then we rotated between them as a class (one person on each bar doing something different). My classmates were amazing; they helped me and encouraged me. After a while on the bars it became open gym where you can practice anything. I just jumped around a lot and also practiced falling backwards into a mat. So thankful that Davis Diamonds has an adult class! If you're thinking about trying it but a little anxious, I say give it a chance! There is a range of skill levels among the adults and no judgement; just a lot of fun. ‍

It's basically whatever the piano teacher decides on and although I'm sure they are all talented, there is no organization within the piano teacher. It costs too much to be this unorganized. The piano teacher herself even offered private lessons to come to our house rather than go through the school. Maybe others have had better experiences, but we ended up going to our old piano teacher who was much farther.

We started our 5 year old in lessons just after Christmas. She has a wonderful teacher, and she performed confidently at the recital in June at the Deville. Our daughter also loves the weekly theory classes that are included in the monthly price of tuition. She is always excited to go to class, and even to do theory homework! The price is a little higher than other local options but the quality of the teachers is exceptional. We would definitely recommend signing up for a trial session here. It's fun and inspirational for our daughter walking in and hearing someone singing opera upstairs, or a cellist or drummer having a lesson in the back. The one struggle we have experienced is that sometimes it takes a while to hear back from YACM via email, so I suggest calling between 10-2 on a week day if you have questions because someone will usually always answer the phone. Also, we do practice piano homework with our daughter every day at home, which at first seemed overwhelming because we have three kids 5 and under--however now it's just part of the bedtime routine, and she is starting to read and understand music. Something very cool to see. We will definitely enroll our other kids here when they are old enough.
